Erkan Kemal appeared at Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on April 4, facing charges of reckless conduct and endangering serious injury.
The incident, which occurred on Hawthorn Rd in Caulfield South on November 10 last year, saw Kemal purportedly driving into a group of Jewish protesters, sparking serious safety concerns.
The protest stemmed from the burning of Burgertory, a popular burger bar in Caulfield South, which led to clashes between pro-Hamas and pro-Israel demonstrators near a local synagogue.
The situation escalated to the point where the synagogue had to be evacuated due to the influx of protesters.
At the time, Palestinian-Australian owner Hash Tayeh falsely labelled the fire at Burgertory in Caulfield, which resulted in extensive damages amounting to hundreds of thousands of dollars, as a ‘hate crime’ linked to his high-profile activism against Israel.

Japan appears to be transitioning from a homogenous society to embrace ‘diversity and inclusivity’ by ushering in “an era of mass foreign immigration.”
It’s set to be a massive change for a country that was still up until recently 97.5% ethnic Japanese, according to the CIA World Factbook.
A Bloomberg report details how rapidly declining native birth rates, an aging society and a chronic labor shortage is fueling the importation of millions of foreigners who “are changing the face of Japan.”
The number of foreign workers in Japan has now exceeded 2 million, a 12.4% increase on 2022. The East Asian country needs at least 647,000 working-age immigrants per year to meet its 11 million worker shortage by 2040.
“Japan is entering an era of mass foreign immigration,” said Junji Ikeda, president of Saikaikyo, a Hiroshima-based agency that sources and supervises foreign workers. “Incremental adjustments will not suffice,” he added.
Under one program alone, 820,000 migrants will be admitted to work in the transportation and logistics sectors, a doubling of the previously agreed number, in order “to make efforts to realize an inclusive society,” according to Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi.
While the process is being implemented under ‘skilled worker visas’, the actual roles migrants will fill include taxi drivers, bus drivers and factory workers.

But they lost that argument, and for Peter at least the issue of Aboriginal importance seems in 2024 to have dramatically faded.
Here he is defending Bruce Pascoe’s claims to Aboriginal lineage, which is now of so little significance that – as FitzSimons writes – the Dark Emu author may just as well be bragging about his dancing ability:

This is extraordinary.
Pascoe’s professed Aboriginality is central to his career as an author and academic, and also – if we are on Pascoe’s side – to his very being.
Sure, Pascoe has bugger-all evidence to support his genealogical beliefs, but he nevertheless insists on the authenticity of his Aboriginal identification. He’s been going on and on and on about it for decades.
And then along comes Fitzy to tell us Aboriginality is a trivial matter and his hero Bruce Pascoe is the mere equivalent of a disco poser.
What an odd relationship FitzSimons has with people of colour. He calls a black man a gorilla, gets into fights with principled Indigenous activists and his favourite Aboriginal is a white bloke.
Perhaps Peter should drop the whole subject.
