That’s how Daisy Khan, founder of the Women’s Islamic Initiative in Spirituality and Equality described the recent kidnappings of nearly 300 schoolgirls by Nigerian terrorist group, Boko Haram. Despite similar denunciations of Boko Haram’s actions by Muslim religious leaders, activists, organizations, and intellectuals across the world, right-wing media are set on using the kidnappings as a justification for their Islamophobic narratives and their attempt to make Boko Haram the face of Islam.
Boko Haram is a marginalized terrorist organization operating out of Nigeria whose murky ideological goals include eliminating secular education.
The gist of these defenses of Islamic terrorists by lefties every time goes something like this: it’s an “isolated incident” or a “marginalized” group or, in the case of the Boston Marathon bombers, “they were basically loners.” They are so desperate to say “all Islamists aren’t terrorists” that they make up ways to avoid saying that the key component in Islamic terrorism is the Islamic stuff. If you press them, they’ll begin barking “Timothy McVeigh!” like a chihuahua around a mailman. In their world, the anomaly has disproportionate weight, essentially giving a free pass these last twenty years to anyone who wants to ignore the obvious, terrorism-inspiring 800 lb gorilla in the room.
It’s stupid and it’s dangerous.

What Islamic identity? Islam’s claim to Jerusalem is based entirely on Qur’an 17:1: “Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.” Muslims identify this reference to Masjid al-Aqsa as referring to the al-Aqsa mosque on the Temple Mount, and connect it to the hadith in which Muhammad is taken miraculously by night to the Temple Mount and thence into Paradise, where he meets the other prophets and Allah himself.

But the Night Journey of Muhammad is a pious legend with no historical basis; even if Muhammad the prophet of Islam was a historical figure, and there is considerable reason to doubt that, there is no evidence that he was ever actually in Jerusalem. And the al-Aqsa Mosque wasn’t even built during Muhammad’s lifetime, which makes it not just likely but certain either that the Qur’an’s reference to the Masjid al-Aqsa (the “Farthest Mosque”) either originally referred to another mosque in a different place, and not to the one in Jerusalem at all, or that this passage was written long after the time Muhammad is supposed to have lived, and thus has no historical value in any case.

There is no evidence Kaldas for a second contemplated not upholding the law as a result of the meeting.

The alternative to Islam, the other identity that can serve to dilute the tug and the self-inflicted torment of Islam, is that of nationalism, and Egypt and Iran are the two Muslim states whose peoples, thanks to that long pre-Islamic period of their national existence, and the oomnipresence of difficult-to-deny monuments (from Pyramids to Persepolis) which to a true-blue Muslim are to be dismissed, but to a nationallist (Egyptian, Iranian) are to be celebrated as a source of pride.
This doctor — possibly a Copt? — refers scathingly to the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hasan Al-Banna (grandfather of Tariq Ramadan), but can’t do so without claiming he was a child of others, in this case of British imperialist creation, deliberately brought to Egypt “to split the country in two” — meaning, to set Muslim against Copt. That’s why I wonder if he may be a Copt.
It doesn’t matter. Craziness in Muslim-ruled societies is not limited to Muslims, but affects those who, as non-Muslims, are trying to survive in those societies.
