Egyptian police arrest 7 after Christian shops burned

* From Al Reuters. Read the last sentence: “Christians account for up to 10 percent of the population of Egypt and relations between them and the Muslim majority are usually harmonious. Disputes, most commonly over land, religious buildings or young women, sometimes lead to violence.”

* This is, of course, absolute bullshit. The Coptic Christian are the original inhabitants of Egypt and as dhimmi’s, they are constantly harassed and under siege. The plight of the Copt’s has been documented here and on many other anti-jihad sites, but is generally ignored by the main-stream-media or whitewashed with bullshit like above. There are no ‘disputes over young women’- what happens is that Muslims kidnap Christian women and force them into marriage with Muslims. Under the sharia courts of Egypt the Copt’s cannot get justice.

CAIRO, Dec 16 (Reuters) – Police arrested at least seven Egyptian Muslims after a riot in the southern city of Isna on Sunday that left at least 13 Christian-owned shops smashed up or burned and a church front damaged, security sources said.

They said a car and a motorcycle owned by Christians were also burned and it appeared the rioters had attempted to burn the church.

Tensions have been high in the city for several days with a number of incidents threatening to escalate into sectarian clashes. Police have upgraded their presence.

The tensions appear to have started when an angry crowd of Muslims surrounded and smashed up a Christian-owned store on Wednesday, where they suspected a Muslim girl was having sex with two Christian boys. Police beefed up security in the city after that incident.

Sunday’s riot comes after an altercation last night that saw a Christian shop-owner accuse a Muslim woman of stealing a mobile phone from his shop.

The woman was cleared by authorities and released.

Egypt suffered its worst Christian-Muslim clashes in decades in 1999 in southern Egypt when 20 Christians were killed, 22 people wounded and scores of shops destroyed.

Last year, a 45-year-old Muslim man stabbed a Coptic Christian man to death and wounded five others in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, sparking three days of sectarian clashes in which one Muslim was killed. Egypt says the attacker was mentally ill.

* The ‘mentally ill’ attacker suffered from a condition called ‘sudden jihad syndrome’- which often afflicts Muslims when they come out of the mosques after Friday prayers. Nigeria: Jihad Against Christians Continues 

TEN KILLED, THREE CHURCHES SET ABLAZE IN BAUCHI

Upset by damage to mosque under construction, Muslim students spark unrest.

(Compass Direct News) – Ten persons have been killed and three churches set on fire after Muslim high school students in this northern Nigerian city began a rampage on Tuesday (December 11) that spilled into the city. Today tensions were still high in the area.

An eyewitness at the high school said the Muslim students attacked their Christian peers after unidentified people pulled out two foundation blocks of a high school mosque under construction.

Area Muslims joined the attacking students, resulting in the deaths and damages in the city, including the burning of dozens of homes belonging to Christians.

The identity of nine of the 10 people killed has been kept secret as the Bauchi state government has ordered security agents to remove the corpses and bury them in a common grave. Eyewitnesses told Compass they were buried this morning.

The 10th person killed was a Christian security agent with the State Security Service, identified by eyewitnesses only by his surname, Bogoro, a member of the Church of Christ in Nigeria in Yelwa.

The three churches set aflame in Bauchi after Muslim students began attacking Christian students at the Government Day Secondary School (also known as Baba Tanko Secondary School) in the Yelwa Tudu area of Bauchi are Pentecostal: Elim Church, Redeemed Christian Church of God, and the Assemblies of God Church.

In addition, area Muslims set fire to dozens of houses belonging to Christians. Among the houses burned was that of the Rev. Umaru Sule, associate pastor of the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA ) of Yelwa Makaranta, and that of the Rev. Maina Joshua of Kagadama.

A teacher at the Government Day Secondary School-Yelwa, who pleaded that his identity remain undisclosed out of fear of Muslim attack and government penalty, said he witnessed the sparking of the rampage when Muslim students claimed that the foundation of the school mosque had been pulled down.

The teacher told Compass that the Muslim students had won approval to build a mosque at the 3,655-student school on December 2 and began building its foundation the same day.

“Brother Guide,” as the good colonel has let it be known he likes to be addressed, has just finished a rip-roaring state visit to the French capital. Invited for 3 days, he asked to stay two weeks. In the best traditions of diplomacy, a compromise was found and Qaddafi pitched his tent in the gardens of the Hotel Marigny for five days, plenty of time to enjoy the best that Paris has to offer, and you can be sure that his 400-strong delegation did not fail.

Not everyone was happy to see Qaddafi arrive in Paris. Rama Yade, the junior minister for human rights and a Sarkozy protégée was, to put it mildly, incensed. She stated that “Colonel Qaddafi must understand that our country is not a doormat upon which a leader, whether terrorist or not, can come and wipe from his feet the blood of his crimes. France must not receive the kiss of death.” Strong words indeed, the kind of words you’d expect to hear from the opposition.

Yade’s direct boss, Bernard Kouchner the foreign minister, wasn’t terribly keen on welcoming Brother Guide to France either. He stood by his outspoken junior minister. Slightly more tactful, the head of French diplomacy excused himself from the state dinner in honor of the Libyan leader because “fortunately” he already had a previous engagement in Brussels, which of course he could not possibly break!

Nor did the opposition parties welcome the Libyan leader with open arms. In fact, they noisily vacated the premises in protest when Qaddafi came to visit the French Parliament. Several members of the ruling UMP party also found convenient reasons not to attend.

But do not be misled, despite all the noise and gesturing, Col. Qaddafi was made very welcome in France. His every whim was catered for, from the erection of the Bedouin tent in which he stayed, to closing off all of Paris’s bridges when he took a river cruise. When he said he wanted to meet working class people, they took him to visit a Renault factory. When he said he wanted to meet 200 women, they invited the most successful women in French politics, business and culture to a reception in his honor.

There can be no doubt about it, France has given Col. Qaddafi the bells and whistles welcome he wanted. Though the last four years have seen Libya rehabilitated into the international arena, it still has dubious status. Libya is attractive enough to forge economic ties with but not respectable enough to roll out the red carpet for. France is the first Western country to grant Col. Qaddafi a state visit.

So what’s in it for France? President Sarkozy jumps up and gesticulates in excitement: “10 billion euros!” He rages at those who dared criticize. The deals signed with the Libyans translate into some 30,000 jobs. Airbus has signed contracts for the sale of 21 aircraft. A nuclear cooperation accord was signed which will see France sell at least one nuclear reactor to Libya, for peaceful purposes of course. Libya has also signed an agreement to negotiate exclusively with France for future military purchases.

All of this translates into jobs and money for the French economy, so what if Libya does not have an exemplary track record on human rights? Sarkozy’s message is stark and simple. He welcomed Hu Jintao. He welcomed President Putin. Why should he not welcome Col. Qaddafi? Business is business after all.

So does Sarkozy think that human rights issues are irrelevant to foreign affairs? No, that charge would be unfair. He argues — and to a large extent he is right to do so — that it is better to engage in dialogue than to close doors in people’s faces. He wants to “encourage those who renounce terrorism”, as Libya did in 2003. Much better to use this opportunity to discuss human rights rather than simply to condemn. He assured us that he had a frank and forceful discussion on human rights with Col. Qaddafi. He encouraged Qaddafi to make “progress on the path of human rights.”

Pretty sound rhetoric, except that his guest did not seem to play on cue. You can accuse Qaddafi of being many things, but boring and predictable is not one of them. In his one televised interview, he was asked about his discussions on human rights with the French president. “Human rights? No we did not discuss this subject!” he countered. Oops, there goes diplomacy.

But on Wednesday, the terrorist attacks in Algeria gave him an opportunity to make good. He was quick to condemn the attacks and to declare Al-Qaeda criminals. The French presidency breathed a sigh of relief.

As for Rama Yade, she was summoned for a 30-minute put down by Sarkozy. She was not sacked, nor did she apologize. She has, however, softened her stance. It seems she still has the support of her mentor. She certainly has the support of the French people. The latest poll found that 81 percent agreed with her statement and 87 percent thought she should not be fired. This youngest and most outspoken member of Sarkozy’s team has shown once again this week that speaking your mind might put your job on the line but it gains you respect.

Terror Suspect Escapes Let Loose In Pakistan

Rashid Rauf, Accused In Airliner Bomb Plot, Slips Away From Police Custody

(AP) Rashid Rauf, a British suspect in an alleged plot to blow up trans-Atlantic jetliners, escaped from police custody in Pakistan on Saturday, officials said.

Rauf escaped after appearing before a judge at a court in the capital, Islamabad, said Khalid Pervez, a city police official.

Pervez said Rauf managed to open his handcuffs and evade two police guards who were taking him back to jail in the nearby city of Rawalpindi.

“We do not know how he escaped. But we do know he has escaped and the two policemen have been taken into custody for negligence,” Pervez told The Associated Press.

Federal Interior Secretary Kamal Shah said he had been informed of the escape, but said he had no details.

The British government this week denied media reports that Rauf was to be extradited from Pakistan as part of a secret deal involving the arrest in Britain of two suspects wanted by Pakistan.

“I don’t know anything – I’m shocked,” Rauf’s father, Abdul Rauf, told The Associated Press by telephone from Birmingham, 200 miles (321 kilometers) north of London.

Rauf, who also has a Pakistani passport, was arrested by Pakistani intelligence agents in August on a tip from their British counterparts.

He has been described as a key suspect in a purported plot to blow up jetliners flying from Britain to the United States, which prompted a major security alert at airports worldwide and increased restrictions on carry-on items.

Rauf was arrested and charged in Pakistan with possessing chemicals that could be used in making explosives and with carrying forged travel documents.

The prosecution later withdrew the case against him and held him accountable only for possessing bomb-making materials and living in Pakistan without valid documents. Later, a higher court – acting on an appeal by Pakistani authorities – suspended the anti-terrorism court’s ruling until Jan. 15.

A judge then extended his detention until Jan. 19.

A rightwing thinktank which claimed to have uncovered extremist literature on sale at dozens of British mosques was last night accused of basing a report on fabricated evidence.

Inayat Bunglawala, assistant secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain, said: “Policy Exchange produced a report that was given a lot of publicity, and Newsnight deserve credit for exposing the incredibly shoddy and dubious methodology that Policy Exchange have resorted to. It would seem that Policy Exchange had already decided what they wanted to say about mosques and just went out to find or should I say invent the evidence to justify their prejudices.”

Policy Exchange’s research director, Dean Godson, insisted it stood by the report “100%”. He said the thinktank had checked its evidence thoroughly and the allegations did not challenge the substance of the study – that such extremist literature was being widely sold.

* “We are standing by our report and the Muslim researchers that helped compile it,” he added.

Muslim undercover researchers visited nearly 100 mosques. In 26 of them, they found extremist material – titles such as Women Who Deserve to Go to Hell (for answering their husbands back), virulent insults of Jews and homosexuals, puritanical attacks on moderate Muslims, calls for the complete rejection of Western society etc.

Appallingly, the subjects of MPACUK’s search were actually exposed by the BBC, in a strange and pathetic attempt to cover their butts after covering up a story about the prevalence of radical Islamic hate literature in British mosques: Newsnight told a small story over a big one.

The real oddity of all this is that the actual contents of the report have been validated.

Extremist literature was available in the mosques, and in some cases still is. The mosques could not dissociate themselves from the literature and, in most cases, did not even try to: they jumped on the receipts instead.

One mosque insisted that the next-door bookshop selling extreme stuff had nothing to do with it, yet the extremist books in question which the shop sells are by a former Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia (author of a famous essay in which he literally asserted that the Earth is flat) who was a founding sponsor of the mosque!

I don’t blame Newsnight for reporting questions about receipts, though I deplore their methods. I do blame them for trying to kill the much, much bigger story about the hate that is being preached in our country.

Policy Exchange researches all sorts of public policy – police reform, school choice, housing, as well as on Islamist extremism. Next week comes its big report on improving philanthropy. I find it repellent that the might of the BBC is deployed to threaten and bully a charity in this way.

More important, however, is the fate of Muslims in this country. It is not often realised that the British citizens most persecuted by Islamist extremism are Muslims themselves.

The researchers that Policy Exchange used to find the extreme literature were all Muslims – no one else could pass unnoticed in a potentially hostile environment. Because their safety was and is threatened, the think-tank protects their anonymity. On air, Newsnight revealed where some of them were.

Yesterday an Islamist website repeated this and called for supporters to help hunt them down. The BBC has unintentionally exposed them to the risk of harm.

What these brave Muslims undeniably found was evidence of widespread, obnoxious material that is a risk to decent Muslims and to British social order. The BBC chose, in effect, to side with their extreme opponents and to cover up the report, because of an obsession about a few pieces of paper.

“The deadly face of Muslim extremism”

in the National Post, Tarek Fatah and Farzana Hassan, the courageous Canadian Muslim reformers about whom Robert Spencer  wrote here, call for the searching self-examination that Muslim leaders are so far evading in the wake of the murder of Aqsa Parvez:

The imams and clergy of Canada’s mosques, who constantly berate young women for not wearing the hijab or snub them for “violating Islam,” they need to reflect on the consequences of their sermons.

Consider, as an example, the Montreal mosque that recently posted on its Web site a warning to the effect that if young girls took off their hijab, they could end up getting raped and having “illegitimate children.” Other proffered risks included “Stresses, insecurity and suspicion in the minds of husbands” and “instigating young people to deviate towards the path of lust.”

As if the threat of rape and the fear of illegitimate children were not enough, these pre-teen girls were told that if they took off their hijab, they would cease to be Muslims: “By removing your hijab, you have destroyed your faith. Islam means submission to Allah in all our actions.” Little wonder then, that Canadian girls walk away from sports tournaments rather than remove their hijabs.

Muslims need to stand up to this sort of emotional and religious blackmail by imams who spread the competing agendas of Saudi Arabia and Iran into Canada. Young Aqsa Pervez’s death cannot be reversed. But in her memory, we can at least challenge those whose message leads to rage and madness.

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Muslim leaders on Thursday denounced as un-Islamic the slaying of a Toronto-area teenager who had clashed with her family, but said some parents would view themselves as having failed in their duty if their daughter chose not to wear the hijab.
The comments came at a tense news conference at the Islamic Society of North America Canada headquarters in Mississauga, held three days after the alleged strangling death of 16-year-old Aqsa Parvez. Her father, Mohammad Parvez, is accused of killing her and friends say the family had argued over the girl’s refusal to wear the hijab, or traditional Muslim head-scarf.

While stressing the sanctity of human life, denouncing the crime and describing it as a case of domestic abuse, religious leaders insisted on the hijab’s importance to parents – even if a daughter rejects it.

“They were believing that part of their culture was hijab, and it is their duty to convince their kids that this is part of their culture,” said Mohammad Alnadvi, who sits on the Canadian Council of Imams. “So if the daughter makes the decision, then they have failed.”

Still, Imam Alnadvi said that judging from the information he received, hijab was only one of the issues.

“This girl she refused to stay at home,” he said. “There were feelings that she is going in some wrong direction … going with some other boy or some other thing.”

After he made those comments, two females in hijabs interrupted him and started to disagree, before abruptly leaving the gym where the conference was held.*

Gang that specialized in kidnapping Christian doctors arrested in Kirkuk

* They were only in it for the money, and “what’s more according to sharia taking money from a Christian is legitimate”.

Kirkuk (AsiaNews) – Yesterday in Kirkuk Iraqi police captured the remaining members of a gang specialised in kidnapping Christian doctors. The criminal organisation was made up of 4 brothers, arrested in various raids between December 11th and 13th. Tow unemployed relatives aided the brothers. All of the gang members have confessed to the crime. They are Muslims who have no connection to terrorist organisations, or Islamic extremism. They, themselves confessed that they chose the kidnapping industry to “make easy money, what’s more according to sharia taking money from a Christian is legitimate”. The group had a complete list of doctors and pharmacists, possible future targets.

The medical profession has long been a target for terrorists and criminals throughout Iraq. Recently in Kirkuk 4 specialised doctors have been kidnapped. Their families were forced to pay extortionate sums for their release, amounting to thousands of dollars. Under increased pressure from constant threats 3 doctors had already left the city in the last few weeks heading for the safer climate of Iraqi Kurdistan.

 Two men accused of plotting behind prison walls to launch attacks on military sites, synagogues and other targets in 2005 pleaded guilty Friday to conspiring to levy war against the United States.

Kevin James, 31, and Levar Haley Washington, 28, both pleaded guilty to seditious conspiracy charges. Washington also pleaded guilty to using a firearm to further that conspiracy.

Authorities say James, Washington and two others were part of a California prison gang cell of radical Muslims planning attacks in the Los Angeles area.

“Homegrown terrorism remains a grave concern to the security of our country, and this cell was closer to going operational at the time than anyone since 9/11,” Los Angeles Deputy Police Chief Michael Downing told reporters at a news conference after the two men entered their pleas.
Prosecutors say James even had a press release prepared to send out after an attack.

“This incident is the first in a series of incidents to come in a plight to defend and propagate traditional Islam in its purity,” James is accused of writing. “We are not extremists, radicals or terrorists. We are only servants of Allah.”

The plotters were within weeks of being able to carry out an attack when they were uncovered in July 2005 by police investigating a string of gas station robberies, Torrance Police Chief John Neu said. Authorities said the men committed about 10 holdups to finance the attacks.

James faces as many as 20 years in prison when he is sentenced March 31. Washington faces as many as 20 years in prison on the conspiracy charge and five years to life for the firearms offense when he is sentenced April 28. Prosecutors said Washington used a shotgun to rob a Torrance gas station on July 4, 2005.

Both men said little during their separate hearings, answering U.S. District Judge Cormac J. Carney’s questions with one-syllable responses.

When a reporter asked Washington’s attorney, Ellen Barry, why he was pleading guilty, she replied, “He decided that was in his best interest to do that.”

Robert Carlin, James’ attorney, declined to comment.

Also indicted in the case were Gregory Vernon Patterson and
Hammad Riaz Samana. Samana is a Pakistani national, while the others are U.S.-born Muslim converts.

Patterson and Samana are charged with conspiracy to levy war against the U.S. government through terrorism, conspiracy to possess and discharge firearms in a violent crime, conspiracy to kill members of the U.S. government uniformed services, and conspiracy to kill foreign officials. Patterson is also charged with a robbery count and using a firearm in a violent crime.

Patterson is expected in court Monday to enter a plea, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Staples. He did not elaborate because the plea agreement is sealed.

Samana is undergoing a psychological evaluation, Barry said.
The plot was orchestrated by Washington, Patterson and Samana at
the behest of James, an inmate at the California state prison at Sacramento who founded the radical group Jamiyyat Ul-Islam Is-Saheeh, or JIS, authorities said.

Washington converted to Islam while imprisoned with James, then looked to recruit other members for the group, authorities said.  Neu said Patterson and Samana were recruited in part because they had no criminal records and could acquire weapons without suspicion.

Washington, Patterson and Samana – who attended the same Inglewood mosque – are accused of conducting surveillance of military sites, synagogues, the Israeli Consulate and El Al airline facilities in the region, as well as doing Internet research on Jewish holidays, prosecutors said in 2005.

James preached that JIS members should target for violent attack any enemies of Islam, or “infidels,” including the U.S.  government and any supporters of Israel, according to court documents.

He also created a document he called the “JIS Protocol,” which advocated the establishment of an Islamic caliphate in the U.S.  that followed Shariah law, or Islamic law.

“Sit back, build and attack!” prosecutors say James wrote in his document. “Our obvious targets being the Western forces of the U.S. and their … society.”

James spelled out in a separate document that JIS members must learn Arabic, acquire two pistols with silencers, learn bomb-making and become “legitimate.”

“Acquire identification, drivers license. … Keep regular contact with your parole agent,” prosecutors say James wrote.  “Your dress code must not bring attention. … We have work to do.”

Egypt: Man Kills Wife on Wedding Night, Thought she Wasn’t a Virgin….

An Egyptian man has been charged with fatally stabbing his wife on their wedding night when he decided she was not a virgin.

Ibrahim Ali and Hoda Salem were married in the village of Al-Quba in the Nile Delta. On their wedding night, residents heard Salem screaming and found her on the floor, al-Arabiya reported.

Ali, after his arrest, said that he was unable to break his wife’s hymen on the wedding night, leading him to conclude that she was sexually experienced, the report said.

In a similar recent case, an autopsy found that the bride was a virgin. Gynecologist Naglaa Ahmed said that in many cases new husbands are unable to break the hymen on the wedding night because of nervousness. In other cases, women have unusually tough hymens, requiring surgical intervention.

Salem said that her husband had stabbed her. She died at the hospital.

Mullah Watch: Iran Celebrates Int’l Human Rights Day as Only They can….

Iran: Broadcasting graphic images of public hangings on state television

NCRI – On Tuesday, at the same time with the International Human Rights Day, the inhuman mullahs’ regime, in a shocking move, broadcasted still images of the hanging of one prisoner from a crane in front of large crowd. An image was also broadcasted by the state television of three other prisoners hanging from a frame in a prison yard, in the northeastern city of Bojnourd.

Such heinous measures are adopted by the mullahs to scare off the angry Iranians, in particular students and youths, from participating in anti-government demonstrations.

The Iranian Resistance calls on the related international bodies specially the EU to adopt firm measures against increasing number of arbitrary executions and the showing of such acts on state television. The Resistance reiterates that dealing with the Iranian regime and keeping silence about its crimes are against recognized international human rights principles.
