If any further proof was needed of the British media’s inability to deal with Israel in an objective and fair manner, it arrived on 13 April as the UK’s National Union of Journalists (NUJ) voted at its annual meeting for a boycott of Israeli goods as part of a protest against last year’s Lebanon war.

By a vote of 66 to 54, the  delegates called for “a boycott of Israeli goods similar to those boycotts in the struggles against apartheid South Africa led by trade unions, and [for] the [Trades Union Congress] to demand sanctions be imposed on Israel by the British government.”

Just to show what disregard British (and indeed most European) journalists have for the truth about Israel “The motion called for the end of Israeli aggression in Gaza.” In case they haven’t noticed, Israel withdrew from Gaza in the summer of 2005, and indeed is maintaining a ceasefire even while Palestinian rockets continue to be fired from Gaza on an almost daily basis into Israel, aimed at civilians.

The Daily Telegraph’s Washington correspondent Toby Harnden called the vote “inane, ineffectual, counter-productive and insulting to the intelligence”, commenting:

The “slaughter of civilians” by Israel is condemned (no mention of suicide bombings or human rights abuses by Palestinian militias, needless to say), as is the “savage, pre-planned attack on Lebanon by Israel” and “continued attacks inside Lebanon following the defeat of its army by Hezbollah”.

What kind of language is this? It is tendentious and politically-loaded propaganda that would be rightly edited out of any news story written in a newspaper that had any pretensions of fairness. Israel “defeated” by Hezbollah? That is at best debatable – it’s the kind of wording smacks of a juvenile combination of unedifying gloating and wishful thinking. Pali-propaganda pure.

Israel’s “savage, pre-planned attack” on Lebanon? Er, am I missing something or wasn’t last summer’s conflict sparked by Hezbollah firing rockets and mortars at Israeli border villages and kidnapping two Israeli soldiers (who still have not been released) and killing three other troops?

NUJ member Craig McGinty simply wonders “how boycotting any nation’s goods, whether it’s Israel, China or Umpah Lumpah Land will help improve the lot of both staff and freelance journalists.”

While we condemn this ridiculous and self-defeating display of anti-Israel bias by the NUJ, we also recognize that this boycott was voted on by a very small number of people and potentially against the wishes of many ordinary NUJ members. The most effective way of overturning this motion and boycott is from within the NUJ itself. We therefore urge those members of the union who possess a conscience to take action and register their protests to the NUJ.

If this boycott is allowed to stand, it will be impossible to treat any British journalism from Israel or the Palestinian territories seriously.

A few days ago we already reported that the Muhammedans of the Ahmadiyya community, which intends to build more than 100 mosques in Germany, are openly claiming that the consumption of pork makes people homosexual. The Ahmadiyya Muslim community, which is currently building a mosque in Berlin-Pankow, has now confirmed this controversial claim.

Titled ‘Fortunate Pig or Poor Swine?’ a young member of the cult writes the following in the popular Ahmadiyya- youth-magazine, which can also be found on the internet:
“Humans are what they eat, and this aphorism relates to the nexus between the consumption of Pork and the morality of humans, because a shameless animal like swine transmits certain patterns of behavior to the consumer..’

This statement, which  recently  became public knowledge and should be of interest to scientists, was now reconfirmed by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat (AMU)

Die Ahmadiyya-Muslim-Gemeinschaft, die derzeit in Pankow eine Moschee baut, hat ihre umstrittenen Aussagen zum angeblichen Zusammenhang zwischen dem nach islamischem Recht verbotenen Verzehr von Schweinefleisch und Homosexualität bekräftigt.

Unter dem Titel „Glücksschwein oder arme Sau?“ hatte sich ein junges Gemeindemitglied im Jugendjournal der Gemeinde darüber ausgelassen. Nach dem Satz „Der Mensch ist, was er isst“, heißt es in dem auch auf den Internetseiten der Gemeinde verbreiteten Text: „Auch lässt sich dieser Aphorismus beziehen auf die Auswirkungen von Schweinefleischverzehr auf das menschliche Moralverhalten, denn ein schamloses Tier wie das Schwein prägt oder unterstützt die Ausprägung gewisser Verhaltensweisen des Konsumenten.“ Das habe bereits das 2003 verstorbene Oberhaupt der Gemeinde, Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad, gesagt, indem er „den zunehmenden Hang zur Homosexualität mit dem Schweinefleischverzehr in unserer Gesellschaft in Verbindung setzt“.

Nachdem diese Aussagen kürzlich bekannt wurden und Empörung nicht nur beim Schwulen- und Lesbenverband auslösten, bekräftigte die von anderen muslimischen Gruppen isolierte Gemeinde jetzt ihre Position. „Die Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat (AMJ) stimmt den Ausführungen der Verfasserin des Artikels im Allgemeinen zu“, heißt es in einer Stellungnahme der Gemeindeführung in Frankfurt am Main für den Tagesspiegel.

Eine Beleidigung nichtmuslimischer Menschen oder homosexuellenfeindliche Diskriminierung will die Religionsgemeinschaft in den Äußerungen nicht erkennen. Im Denken der Ahmadiyya-Gemeinde sei „kein Raum für Hass oder Verfolgung gegen andere aufgrund ihrer persönlichen Neigungen“, teilt die Gemeindeführung mit. Der umstrittene Artikel „sollte keinen Anlass für Sorge dafür bieten, dass er zum Hass gegen bestimmte gesellschaftliche Gruppen anstachelt“.

Für kritische Betrachter der Ahmadiyya-Gruppierung, die in Berlin nach eigenen Angaben 200 Mitglieder hat, passen die abfälligen Bemerkungen über Homosexuelle ins Bild. So bescheinigt eine kürzlich veröffentlichte Studie der Evangelischen Zentralstelle für Weltanschauungsfragen der Ahmadiyya-Muslim-Gemeinschaft ein „ultraorthodoxes bis fundamentalistisches Koranverständnis“. Themen wie Sexualität und die Beziehungen zwischen den Geschlechtern seien von einer „rigiden Moral“ geprägt, die sich auch in mangelnder Gleichberechtigung von Frauen sowie der Erlaubnis „leichter Züchtigung“ von Ehefrauen äußere. Die westliche Gesellschaft werde von der einst in Nordindien gegründeten Ahmadiyya-Gemeinde als „sexbesessen und verderbt“ wahrgenommen. Das Fazit der evangelischen Expertise: „Die Ahmadiyya ist religiös fundamentalistisch.“ Die Position der Gruppierung zu Menschenrechten sei geeignet, „Zweifel an ihrer Rechtstreue zu wecken“.

Die Gemeindeführung weist diese Einschätzung zurück und betont immer wieder, dass sie sich als „friedfertige islamische Reformgemeinde“ betrachtet. Die zentralen Anliegen der Ahmadiyya-Muslim-Gemeinde, die in Deutschland nach eigenen Angaben 30 000 Mitglieder zählt, seien „Toleranz und Frieden“.

Four killed in southern Thailand

Separatist (??? again???) militants have killed four people in attacks across Thailand’s restive south, police said Monday, while five schools were set ablaze in the region.

* If I ever catch one of those ‘separatist militants in the restive south’ I’m gonna fart, I promise!

One army ranger and one militant were killed in Narathiwat province late Sunday when Islamic insurgents raided an army base.

Local police said about 10 militants opened fire on the base where 100 policemen and soldiers were stationed. Three policemen were also injured in the 20-minute firefight between the two sides.

All the militants escaped and took the body of the dead insurgent with them, police said.

On Monday in nearby Yala province, a Muslim district mayor was shot dead in front of his house by suspected militants. Another Muslim man was killed in a drive-by shooting in front of a tea shop two kilometres (1.2 miles) away.

Five schools, one health office and a teacher’s house were also set on fire in Pattani province. No one was injured.

Militants, who are battling for a separate Muslim state in Thailand’s southernmost region, frequently stage arson attacks on schools, which are seen as representing the central Buddhist state.

More than 2,000 people have been killed in the Muslim-majority provinces of Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani since the latest separatist insurgency broke out in January 2004.

Violence has escalated in the past six months despite moves by the military-backed government to bring peace to the region bordering Malaysia.

Southeast Asian militant network Jemaah Islamiah has formed an assassination squad to attack police, prosecutors and judges, a Singapore newspaper reported yesterday, citing an Indonesian official.
Ansyaad Mbai, head of the anti-terrorism division at Indonesia’s Security Ministry, said the group planned to target a list of “infidels” including the rector of a Christian university and an official at the Attorney-General’s Office in central Java, the Straits Times reported.

The setting up of the assassination squad showed the al-Qa’ida-linked terror network wanted to get into the complete spectrum of terrorist attacks, instead of concentrating on deadly bombings and suicide strikes, Rohan Gunaratna, head of the Singapore-based International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research, told the newspaper.

Officials uncovered the assassination plans after a series of raids in Java last month, when investigators found charts detailing Jemaah Islamiah’s new structure, as well as a large cache of arms including M-16 rifles.

“This has never happened before. These M-16s are not hidden in the forests but are carried around. They are well-prepared to use the rifles in pursuit of a target,” Mr Mbai was quoted as saying, adding that the group was targeting both locals and foreigners.

The strength of the assassination squad was not known, but the paper said it might be part of a new military wing formed by Abu Dujana, a senior Jemaah Islamiah operative who has taken over as the group’s leader, security officials say.

FORMER Guantanamo Bay inmate Mamdouh Habib said he was held in the Australian High Commission in Islamabad and interrogated by an Australian diplomat, in fresh claims aired in the Federal Court yesterday.

Mr Habib alleged Australian diplomat Alistair Adams threatened him during one of the encounters at the consulate building, telling him he would be sent back to Egypt and would never see his children again.
“Alistair Adams told me, ‘You have to co-operate, Mr Habib, or you will lose your citizenship and you will be back in Egypt’,” Mr Habib said yesterday.

Government solicitors have accused the 51-year-old former coffee-shop owner of making up the allegation to further his case for compensation against the commonwealth.

Mr Habib was released from Guantanamo Bay in 2005 without charge. He is suing the commonwealth for not doing enough to prevent his three-year detention in the US military prison.

This is the first time a court has heard he was detained under Australian authority on Australian premises in the Pakistani capital.

Mr Habib said he was blindfolded by his Pakistani captors five minutes before reaching his destination by car, but he could make out the bottom half of the building, the steps and the security gate by tilting his head up.

It “look like a castle, a five-star building”, he said.

Inside the building, where his blindfold was removed, servants dressed in traditional Pakistani white uniforms with red sashes tied around their waists moved about, he said.

The room he was taken to for questioning was set up like a bedroom, with a television and a computer.

Mr Habib claims to have met Mr Adams in Pakistan three times in October 2001 and said the diplomat and two Pakistanis were present when he was interrogated there by two US women.

Counsel for the federal Government, Barry Toomey QC, said Mr Habib did not see an Australian flag, coat of arms, plaque or anything else suggesting it was an Australian building, because “you were never in the High Commission in Islamabad”.

“This is something you manufactured, you made up because you think it will help your case,” Mr Toomey said.

“Jihad-Jack” Thomas’s lawyer withdraws from case

JOSEPH Terrence Thomas will have to find a new lawyer in his defence of terrorism-related charges, after his solicitor withdrew from the case today.
Thomas was due to stand trial in the Victorian Supreme Court this week after pleading not guilty to intentionally receiving funds from a terrorist organisation and possessing a falsified Australian passport.

Today, Lex Lasry QC said his instructing solicitor, Rob Stary, could no longer act on Thomas’ behalf because he may be required to give evidence as a witness in the case.

Judge Bill Gillard adjourned the matter until Friday.

PUPILS and teachers have been told by an official body not to stare at Muslims for fear of causing offence.

A document intended to educate against religious intolerance and sectarianism urges teachers to “make pupils aware of the various forms of Islamophobia, ie stares, verbal abuse, physical abuse”.

But Learning Teaching Scotland (LTS), which issued the advice to schools north of the border, has been criticised by politicians and Muslim leaders for going “over the top”.

The document states: “Some Muslims may choose to wear clothing or display their faith in a way that makes them visible. For example, women may be wearing a headscarf, and men might be wearing a skullcap. Staring or looking is a form of discrimination as it makes the other person feel uncomfortable, or as though they are not normal.”

Osama Saeed, a spokesman for the Muslim Association of Britain, accused officials of going too far. “There are far more serious elements of Islamophobia. People look at all sorts of things — that can just be a glance. A glance and a stare are two different things — glances happen naturally when all sorts of things catch your eye whereas a stare is probably gawking at something.

“Personally I have not encountered much of a problem with people staring. I don’t know how you legislate for that.”

Murdo Fraser, deputy leader of the Scottish Conservatives, said: “In a multicultural society like ours there are people with all different forms of dress and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect children in particular to look at those who are differently dressed from them. To describe this as a form of discrimination seems to go completely over the top.”

Meanwhile, a survey of London’s Muslims shows that more of them identify with Britain than do the majority population. The Gallup (bullshit report) poll, which is part of the biggest global survey of Muslims, shows 57% of Muslims identified with Britain as their home, compared with 48% of the rest of the population.

The poll also found that 74% of Muslims believe they are loyal to Britain and 78% of Muslims said they had confidence in Britain’s police force — a higher proportion than the rest of the population.

The survey shows 67% of Muslims have confidence in the judicial system and 73% believe in the British democratic process. This compares with 55% and 60% respectively among the general public.

Mass Murder by Lone Gunman at VA Tech

Sketchy details on the 22 32 dead at VA Tech, all shot by a supposed lone gunman. Reports say the gunman is dead but I saw a picture of the “suspect” on the ground being handcuffed. [UPDATE: GUNMAN CONFIRMED DEAD, the guy in the picture may have been taken for questioning and released] The suspect is “Asian.” The victims were lined up and shot execution style. Anybody got a name?

VA Tech is basically a U.S. Army Military recruiting school.

There have been two bomb threats at VA Tech in the last two weeks. We do not know if these are related.

The shooter is said to be a Korean national. At this point in time we still have no knowledge of his motivation or convictions or his religious beliefs.

Korean Muslim Imam Lee Hang-rae said during an interview at a mosque in Itaewon, Seoul on Wednesday that, “We Muslims were also shocked and felt heartbroken like everyone else. I am worried that this incident may damage the perception of Islam on the whole. The group that kidnapped and murdered Kim Sun-il is a political group that has nothing to do with Islam. They do not obey Islamic doctrines and are even against Islam. Islam itself is peace. The Koran also forbids murder in a phrase, “Do not take any precious life without proper reasons.”
It would be refreshing if just one time, we weren’t asked to accept that this sort of thing “has nothing to do with Islam” just on the word of other Muslims. I wish that just one time, Muslims who say these beheadings have nothing to do with Islam would explain why Sura 47:4 (“when you meet the unbelievers, smite their necks”) doesn’t apply here, and why the example of Muhammad’s beheadings doesn’t apply — in short, why the reasons that the radicals themselves give for what they are doing don’t qualify as “proper reasons” under the Qur’anic caveat cited by Lee Hang-rae.

* But they never do. Instead, all we get from one side are detailed arguments based on the Qur’an and Sunnah justifying what they do, and the other side shouting, “It’s against Islam!” Never mind which side I believe; which side do you think young Muslims who are trying to live their faith properly believe?

Cotabato City, 16 April (AKI) – At least 70,000 Muslim civilians in the southern Filipino province of Sulu were displaced due to fighting between a faction of former rebel group, the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and the army. Abdul Wasan Mohamad, provincial social welfare and development officer in Sulu, told Adnkronos International (AKI) that the number may increase as six towns were affected in the ongoing fighting that began when a group of MNLF forces, under leader Habier Malik attacked a Marine base near Panamao, on 13 April. Eighteen people, including two soldiers and a civilian, were killed in the incident.

“Non-government organizations and government agencies have provided evacuees with relief goods and medicines. But if the fighting continues, more and more civilians will be displaced,” Mohamad said.

The Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) has asked the military and MNLF to stop the fighting. Reports said the OIC proposed the creation of a small military monitoring mission in Sulu province.

But Jesus Dureza, Filipino president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s peace adviser, said that although they welcomed the concern of OIC, the army will undertake punitive action against Malik’s forces. Dureza asked the leadership of MNLF to take appropriate steps and deal with the criminal acts perpetrated by Malik.

“Unless decisively addressed by the MNLF leadership, this latest incident will pose as an additional challenge in our peace engagement with the MNLF,” Dureza said in statement.

MNLF deputy chairman Hatimil Hassan told reporters they would respect the appeal of the OIC.

“We have directed Malik’s group on the ground to silent their guns. We support the appeal of OIC to cease from further hostilities and resolve the matter in peaceful means,” Hassan said.

On 13 April, Malik declared a jihad, or holy war, against Manila and fired rockets on the positions of government security forces near Panamao. His action followed an attack by the army on an MNLF camp in nearby Indanan town, last week.

Analysts say that Malik’s attack is also due to frustration over the continuous postponement of the scheduled tripartite talks with the Manila, MNLF and the OIC.

In the past, Malik has been on record questioning the sincerity of the government in implementing the 1996 peace accord.

Commenting on the recent development with AKI, Sol Santos, Asia coordinator for the South-South Network (SSN) for Non-State Armed Group Engagement, said that the recent fighting could also be due to “rogue military commanders who want to get at the MNLF, contrary to higher-level policy guidelines.”

The MNLF, established by Nur Misuari in 1968, was a mostly secular group that fought for an independent state for Muslims in Mindanao. It eventually laid down its arms and accepted a limited autonomy, signing various peace agreements with the government.

The EU Anti-Terror Strategy
Britain wants to drop the “war on terror” phrase “because this isn’t us against one organised enemy with a clear identity and a coherent set of objectives.”

I’m gobsmacked, I tell you, gobsmacked. The “war on terror” is a silly, stupid, inadequate phrase, but for almost exactly the opposite of these reasons. One of its defects is that it doesn’t communicate the fact that we are facing one enemy (with various degrees of organization) with with a clear identity and a coherent set of objectives. As I and many others have pointed out on numerous occasions, terrorism is a tactic, not an opponent, and it was not invented by Osama bin Laden on September 11, 2001.

And the British also have a bad idea here because we are facing one enemy with a clear identity and a coherent set of objectives. Even if one believes that they are twisting and hijacking Islam, they are still at least self-proclaimed Islamic jihadists with the goal of setting up a worldwide caliphate. Even President Bush has spoken about that, on one or two occasions. But evidently now official Britain is retreating so far from reality that we have to pretend that we are facing simply a few gangs of thugs with no coherent ideology or common aims.

Ah, and don’t forget: The Euro-Dhimmis have already made it go away: The EU parliament has already issued new guidelines not to talk about ‘Jihad-Terror-Koran-hate-preachers’ anymore and you know what? It just went away, magically. As is it never existed.
