For proof that the past is never really gone, you need look no further than Crimea, home to an ancient ethnic group known as the Tatars, who still wield considerable influence.

Primarily Muslim, the Tatars of Crimea were instrumental in making the peninsula one of the centers of Islamic culture. They were also known as slave traders who raided lands as far north as modern-day Poland.

NOTE: How many of you growing up, ever heard your teachers telling you about Muslim Tatar slavers raiding Poland and other parts of Europe for slaves? No? Well me neither, I just heard about the white Christian European slave traders, who by default, were cast as the inventors of the evil institution. We never were schooled in the subject of the Islamic slave trade, and never about the black Africans themselves who turned their ancient trade in human flesh (when not boiling it for human consumption) into an international market.

Addressing the “Chinese and Buddhists,” Abu Dhar warns them of dire punishment for their crimes against Muslims and Islam, and says that killing them and shedding their blood is “good.”

NSW Solicitor-General Michael Sexton is worried – as am I – that many “leaders” of the Jewish community are fighting to preserve the parts of the Racial Discrimination Act that stifle free speech:

The notions of offence, insult and humiliation … involve hurt to feelings. This is always unattractive for the subject of the verbal attack but these shock tactics have always been legitimate tools of debate on questions of politics and public interest.

Sometimes these attacks are totally unreasonable. But there should be no place in a federal or state statute for a prohibition on their use in public discussion of social and economic issue… The right response to speech that one finds offensive is one’s own speech, not suppression….

Footballer Adam Goodes is proving it was a mistake making him Australian of the Year.

While he praises a ridiculous John Pilger flick with “It takes courage to tell the truth, no matter how unpopular those truths may be”, the only courage he is known for is when he publicly humiliated a 13-year old girl, which was enough to make him ‘Australian of the Year’.

Put yourself in Aboriginal shoes for a minute. Imagine watching a film that tells the truth about the terrible injustices committed over 225 years against your people, a film that reveals how Europeans, and the governments that have run our country, have raped, killed and stolen from your people for their own benefit.

First, governments and Europeans committed “slaughter” and “raped … for their own benefit”? I don’t doubtt some people were killed and others raped, but is this really the essential story of European settlement?

Second, does Goodes seriously believe that without European settlement his life – and that of all people with Aboriginal ancestry – would be sunny? Consider the appalling slaughter of inter-tribal warfare before European settlement and the horrific levels of what we now call domestic violence, as evidenced by cracked skulls. Think of those days of scrabbling for food, and having to endure agonising illnesses and injuries without modern medicines and pain relief.

That is what some in the Chinese government might be contemplating. And while some in Western governments might, if they carried out such a strategy of self-defense, express a real or feigned indignation, there would be, tellingly, no echoing outcry from any Western peoples. Far-right Dutch MP Geert Wilders and the anti-Islam Q Society of Australia intend to launch a political party, the Australian Liberty Alliance.

Mr Wilders will visit Perth in 2015 to formally launch the new political force.

“Many of you are disappointed by current political parties and have had enough of politicians who sell out our western civilisation,” Mr Wilders said in a video address ahead of the Q Society’s International Symposium on Liberty and Islam in Australia, which starts on Friday.

“Like you, good people in Europe, America and Canada have had enough of politicians who don’t share our values and foolishly declare that all cultures are equal and who lack courage to speak the truth and say that Islam is the biggest threat to freedom today.

“You too will soon have the opportunity to turn the tide in Australia.”

Jewish students have faced renewed harassment and intimidation from extremists during the recent orientation week on campuses across Australia.

The newly re-formed Jewish Students’ Society at the Australian National University (ANU) confronted significant abuse during the Market Day clubs and societies event.

Peter Wertheim,  executive director of The Executive Council of Australian Jewry, told J-Wire: “The spate of racist incidents against Jewish students on campuses at the Australian National University, the University of NSW and the University of Adelaide, are a disgraceful reflection of the deterioration that has occurred in the prevailing culture of student and academic life not only in Australia but also at many universities throughout the western world.  The nature of the hostility and the epithets directed against Jewish students are unambiguously antisemitic.   The veneer of anti-Zionism is wearing increasingly thin.    The student organisations that spawn this sort of behaviour will have to get over their narcissistic belief in their own infallibility and do some serious soul-searching. The same applies to the handful of academics who conceive of their role as advocates for an anti-Israel agenda rather than as scholars engaged in rigorous and dispassionate research and analysis.”
