‘Very large numbers of Americans — soldiers and civilians, including every conceivable kind of aid worker — have been in Afghanistan since 2001. The American government has built schools, hospitals, roads. It has lavished money on all kinds of projects. It has fought the Taliban, and gotten rid of Al-Qaeda. It rescued the Hazara from extermination, by those Uber-Sunni Taliban. It has put in place elections. Afghans living in America have gone back to help, as they saw it, to revive their country.
But Afghanistan remains in thrall to Islam, primitive Islam, Islam in a country that is full of violence and aggression.
You can see the violence, the aggression, the superstition, the fanatical desire to “protect Islam” by beating, and then burning to death, a woman who, apparently, was mentally defective (but what if she hadn’t been? What if she had burned a Qur’an? Would her murder then be justified?). This happened not in some remote rural area — though such things happen there, out of the sight of cameras and reporters, all the time — but in the middle of the capital, Kabul. And there were armed police, according to eye-witnesses, standing right there, doing nothing to stop what these maddened Musilms were doing as they ran amok.
Is what Afghanistan needs really a “democracy” where the primitives certainly outnumber the handful of advanced secularists? No. What Afghanistan needs is not a crazed crook and depressive, like Karzai, but an enlightened despot who understands that Islam needs to be tied down, constrained, so that enough people can be raised up who live not in the fanatical Muslim world, but in something like the world of the non-Muslim West. Yet the American government, run apparently by people who believe that “democracy” is the highest good always and everywhere, no matter what the conditions of men, or of their lands, probably because they never sufficiently studied the history of democracy, of the places where, over slow time, it developed. How many Americans, for example, now study the history of English law, or the early history of American law? Perhaps Elizabeth Warren’s husband, Bruce Mann, might be persuaded to offer a llittle course, for the Democrats at least, on what it was in the history of the West, and especially of England and then of America, that created the conditions that make “democracy” make sense. In Afghanistan, it doesn’t — any more than it did in Turkey in 1922, or in Tunisia in 1954.

The leaders of Islamic associations in Spain have demanded that the festivals traditionally held there to celebrate the reconquest of the country from the Muslim invaders be suppressed because they are offensive to Muslims.
These celebrations are known as the Fiestas de Moros y Cristianos (Festivals of Moors and Christians). More than a hundred are held in Spain in different localities. Some last for days and feature elaborate and colourful re-enactments of battles.
The president of the Federación Española de Entidades Religiosas Islámicas (FEERI) [Spanish Federation of Islamic Religious Assocations] and the imam of Malaga mosque said the festivals should be discontinued because of the image they give of Muslims, saying the celebrations “have no place in a democratic Spain”.
The imam asked what the reaction would be in some towns if celebrations of the arrival of Franco’s troops were held and “the resulting punishment inflicted on the population”. In the interests of “good convivencia, they need to disappear”, he said.
The president of FEERI said:
“In a democratic Spain, where all religious faiths are represented, these celebrations of conquest must disappear. Like any other representation of islamophobia or racism, it must be eliminated.”
He claimed that some of the festivals included offensive acts against Mohammed. This refers to Valencia where some festivals dramatise the recapture of a castle by a band of Christians followed by the destruction of a 3-metre effigy of Mohammed using firecrackers. Some elements of these festivals have already been suppressed.
The director of the Islamic Commission of Spain said:

“We will never justify violent acts but there is a need to show restraint and take into account what the prophet Mohammed means to us. This cannot be taken lightly because it could result in elements of discord.”

An annual security report submitted recently to the US Senate by James Clapper, director of National Intelligence, removed both Iran and Hezbollah from the list of terrorism threats to the United States for the first time in years.
The unclassified version of the “Worldwide Threat Assessment of the US Intelligence Communities” dated 26 February, noted Iran’s efforts to fight “Sunni extremists”, including elements affiliated with the Islamic State group who were perceived to constitute the “preeminent terrorist threat to American interests worldwide”.
Last year’s report described the global terrorist activity of Lebanon’s Shia Hezbollah group to have increased in recent years to “a level we have not seen since the 1990s”, however this year’s report mentioned the group only once saying it faces a threat from ISIS and Al-Nusra Front near Lebanon’s orders.
Meanwhile, despite removing Tehran from the list, the report described it as source of cyber-attacks and a regional threat to the United States because of its support for Syrian regime President Bashar Al-Assad and its hostile policies against Israel.

The main mayhem has been the bombing at a Shi’a mosque, killing more than 120, and wounding 200. That’s where Houthis, including some of the Houthi leaders, would have gone for Friday Prayers. Oh yes, and there was also an attempt to bomb, from a plane, the former leader Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, who had fled from Sana’a to the south, to find refuge, so he thought, among the Adeni separatists. And then there was also the killing of a famous journalist, Abdel Karim al-Khaiwani, who “was gunned down by men on a motorcycle as he came out of his home, the journalist’s son said.”
Or was that on Thursday or even possibly Wednesday? In Yemen, you don’t have to wait for Friday Prayers to kill; any day of the week will do.
Back in September, Obama championed Yemen, calling it a “model of success” in fighting the war on terror. That was before a bloody Iranian-backed coup (Shia) took over the government. The coup was Shia. The Islamic State is Sunni. This Sunni versus Shia war is over who is the true Muslim. So when Obama says the Islamic State is killing Muslims, he is being dishonest. Shia are considered heretics to Sunnis and vice versa. They are purifying the Islamic State when they kill Shia. (Pamela Geller)

The hudud bill to be tabled by Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) before the Kelantan State Assembly prescribes the death penalty for the offence of apostasy, the Malay Mail Online reports today.
The Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 classifies “intidah” and “riddah” as voluntary or deliberate pronouncements or utterances of words that violate a Muslim’s creed, known has aqidah.
These involve challenges to fundamental aspects of the Islamic faith of every Muslim, including Rukun Islam (Pillars of Islam), Rukun Iman (Pillars of Faith) and the distinction between halal and haram.
According to the report, the enactment does not define what would constitute a violation of Rukun Islam or Rukun Iman.
Under the proposed legislation, the immediate punishment for such an offence is imprisonment over a period to be determined by the Syariah Court “for the purpose of repentance.”
However, chillingly it goes on to say that if the offender fails to repent, the punishment may extend to execution.
