I was flattered and even somewhat chuffed to see it took no less than four experts to — try to — put me in my place.

Under the byline of the first of the four, Alastair Stewart (“Careful, medicines can also be poisons”, The Australian, August 25), the quartet upbraided me for my criticism a few weeks ago of the Therapeutic Goods Administration for defining hydroxychloroquine as a poison.

They accused me of expressing “frustration at the ‘expertism’ and ‘bureaucratic’ processes that serve to protect the community from drug harms” — both falsely characterising and entirely missing the central point of my critique.

On 4 April 2020 Taiwan authorities announced their recommendation for treatment of COVD-19: Hydroxychloroquine (200 mg thrice daily) plus azithromycin (500 mg on day 1, followed by 250 mg once daily on day 2-5), with zinc supplement. There have been seven deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Taiwan, a country around half the size of Tasmania and with population similar numerically to Australia, which has had 663 deaths.

In jurisdictions where hydroxychloroquine and other valid treatments are banned, thousands of mainly elderly and frail individuals are dying unnecessarily, as human sacrifices to the greed of Gates and Big Pharma. Politicians owned by Big Pharma have smashed the sanctity of the relationship between patient and doctor by falsely insisting that the only defence against COVID-19 is a vaccine. So determined are these politicians to obey their financial masters, they even indemnify Big Pharma against damages claims for harm done by any potential vaccine. This wicked policy is appalling and indefensible, because it removes all incentive for Big Pharma to make vaccines safe. How many more elderly folk must be condemned to suffering and death to protect the intended gargantuan profits of Gates and Big Pharma? How long can Australia’s public broadcaster continue pushing the lying assertion that HCQ “does not work”?
Vicious opponents of President Trump have been deliberately intensifying and exacerbating the harm done by COVID-19 in the hope of removing from office the president they hate. Their methods include promoting fraudulent studies, and denigrating, humiliating and persecuting each medically qualified person who attests to the efficacy of HCQ. Shame on them all. Shame and disgrace for Australian politicians who for whatever reason have condemned elderly Australians to pain, suffering and death. You will not be forgiven.

Covid or not, the invasion continues

‘Unsustainable’: Lampedusa calls for help after mass migrant arrival

The Italian coast guard also transported to Lampedusa another 49 people on Saturday

Authorities on the Italian Mediterranean island of Lampedusa are calling for urgent help after mass migrant arrivals over the weekend pushed its hotspots to the brink of collapse.

“Lampedusa is no longer able to cope with this situation,” mayor Totò Martello told Italian news agency ANSA.

“Either the government takes immediate decisions or the whole island will go on strike. We cannot manage the emergency and the situation is now really unsustainable,” he said.

Around 370 migrants disembarked on Saturday night on the southern Italian island.

Their boat was spotted off the coast by the Italian Coastguard and was at risk of sinking due to strong winds.

The migrants, whose nationality is not yet known, disembarked in small groups before undergoing coronavirus tests and being transferred to a reception centre.

Italy’s coastguard on Saturday also transported 49 vulnerable migrants, mainly women and children, from Banksy’s “Louise Michel” rescue ship.

Another 500 migrants arrived on the overburdened island on Friday on “around 30 small boats mainly from the Tunisian coast”, news agency AFP said quoting Italian media.

Lampedusa now reportedly houses around 1,160 migrants, six times the amount of its maximum capacity.

Earlier this week Sicily’s governor Nello Musumeci ordered the closure of all migrant centres in the region after camps became too crowded to maintain social distancing measures and some migrants tested positive for COVID-19

“Sicily cannot continue to pay [for] the indifference of Brussels and the silence of Rome”, he said.

The decision was later overturned by a local administrative court (TAR).

The cartoons — which are prohibited in Islam as haram — were cited by the Muslim gunmen who attacked the offices of the newspaper in 2015, killing 12.

Abu Hamza, who was born Mustafa Kamel Mustafa in Egypt, first became notorious as the head of the Finsbury Park Mosque in London. He was arrested in 2004 and charged with 16 offenses, among them antisemitic incitement to murder. He was convicted on 11 of the charges. A wave of chaotic unrest broke out in Malmo, Sweden after anti-Islam activists filmed a public Koran burning, sparking protests that soon descended into riots, with unruly demonstrators setting fires and clashing with police.

Some 300 people gathered along a main thoroughfare in Malmo on Friday around 7:30pm local time to protest after members of a far-right political party staged a Koran burning earlier in the day, according to local press reports. As the crowd grew, fires were ignited in the street and several cars were torched, prompting a heavy police response that struggled to bring the situation under control.

“We have ongoing and violent riots right now that we have no control over,” police spokesman Rickard Lundqvist told a local news outlet amid the disorder.

BEAVER CREEK, Colorado — The drug hydroxychloroquine has gotten a bad rap thanks to a politics, media hype, and some “garbage” medical research, according to Dr. Scott Atlas, a member of the White House coronavirus task force.

“What’s happened with hydroxychloroquine is that the system has gone mad,” Dr. Atlas said Friday at the Steamboat Institute Freedom Conference. “I sort of make the analogy that we all know objective journalism is basically dead in this country, I’m very cynical about that, and now what we’re seeing is that objective science is nearly dead.”

He emphasized that the drug has not been proven as a treatment for the novel coronavirus—“I’m not going to say it’s proven to work because it’s not”—but challenged those who have accused President Trump of pushing snake oil.
