ISLAMABAD: Apparently irked by prime minister Manmohan Singh’s blunt message to president Asif Ali Zardari in front of media that Pakistan should not allow its soil for terrorism against India, Islamabad on Wednesday said his remarks were “unacceptable”.In a statement made in the Senate or Upper House of Parliament, minister of state for foreign affairs Malik Ahmad Khan said Singh’s comments made during his meeting with Zardari in Russia on Tuesday were unacceptable to Islamabad.

India: Deadly bombings hits northeast

Guwahati, 6 April (AKI) – At least seven people died and over sixty were injured in blasts on Monday in India’s northeast state of Assam. A powerful bomb at a busy restaurant in Guwahati killed four people and wounded at least 56, police said. Blood and body were parts strewn over the entrance to the restaurant and many vehicles were destroyed by the explosion, bystanders said.

Police blamed the separatist United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) for the attacks. The ULFA has links to Islamic militants in neighbouring Bangladesh.

According to the report, hundreds of Taliban fighters, who have taken training at Islamic institutions, are ready to sneak into Indian territory in this regard.

KOLKATA: Observing that Islam does not have any link with terrorism, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday said that sometimes religious texts are misinterpreted to commit terrorist activities. 

“There is no relation between Islam and terrorism…. In fact, no religion has any place for terror,” Mukherjee said.

“Terrorists are enemies of humanity,” he said. Mukherjee said this after inaugurating the Dakshineswar Adyapeeth Ananda Vidyamandir at Adyapeeth.

An 11-year-old girl has been set on fire by a relative in India’s northern city of Jaipur for wearing lipstick and being inappropriately dressed.

Police say the girl suffered burns over 90 per cent of her body and her chances of survival are bleak.

They’ve arrested her great uncle who allegedly poured kerosene on the girl and set her alight yesterday.

India gifts embassy to Palistanian govt

NEW DELHI: Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh attended a ceremony yesterday inaugurating the Embassy of Palestine that India has gifted the Palestinian government.  

“You know how good relations we have, between India and Palestine since great Indira Gandhi and great Yasser Arafat,” said Abbas at the laying of the foundation stone for the embassy, located in Delhi’s diplomatic enclave of Chanakyapuri.

“And everyday it’s improving. We are very glad with the help and the support of the Indian people to the Palestine.”

India: 1,000 Muslims shouted, "set the train on fire and kill the Hindus"

What has long been suspected has, six years later, been confirmed: the Godhra train fire (2/2002) which burned some 60 Hindu pilgrims alive was, in fact, initiated by Muslim extremists. Hindus long assumed this, and went on a rampage against Muslims in the Gujarat district soon after the Godhra train incident. Ironically, Osama bin Laden used to point to this episode as evidence of non-Muslim hatred for Muslims (The Al Qaeda Reader, 27). Now the facts are clear. Once again, it was Muslims who cast the first stone.

GANDHINAGAR: The Nanavati-Mehta judicial inquiry commission on the Godhra train carnage has based its conclusion of it being a “pre-planned conspiracy” on the recorded evidence of over 100 witnesses, who claimed to having heard a crowd of about a 1,000 Muslims shouting “set the train on fire and kill the Hindus.” The report said “instigating slogans” were also made through loudspeakers from a nearby mosque to attack the Hindus.
