Geert Wilders’ anti-Islam film Fitna will not be shown in the European parliament building, reports news agency ANP.
The film, which had an enthusiastic showing in Israel last week, was due to be screened on Wednesday afternoon but party leaders decided against earlier in the day.
Gerard Batten of Britain’s anti European Independence Party had invited Wilders to show the film.
‘This is a very sad day for freedom of expression,’ Wilders told ANP. ‘It shows once again the bankruptcy of the European parliament.’

SHOWING OF THE FILM FITNA BANNED BY ORDER OF THE CONFERENCE OF PRESIDENTSIt is with great regret that I have to announce the cancellation of the showing of the film Fitna at the meeting with Mr Geert Wilders MP today at 2pm.
I was informed of this decision today.
Nevertheless a press conference will take place at 2pm in room R 3.1 with Mr Wilders and myself.
The banning of this film is a direct attack on free speech. A parliament that constantly talks of freedom, democracy and tolerance has shown once again that these are empty words when it does not agree with what is being said.
On the same day that the European Parliament awards the Sakharov Prize to the Chinese freedom campaigner Hu Jia the Conference of Presidents deny free speech to one of its own members.
The press conference is open to MEPs and their assistants as well as accredited members of the press.

“The film is solely intended to incite and provoke unrest and intolerance among people of different religious beliefs and to jeopardize world peace and stability,” the 57-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) said.
The EU condems the movie and like good dhimmies call say they favour less freedom of speech:
The European Union condemned the film. “We believe that acts, such as the above-mentioned film, serve no other purpose than inflaming hatred,” a statement from the Slovenian EU presidency said Friday.
“The European Union and its member states apply the principle of the freedom of speech which is part of our values and traditions. However, it should be exercised in a spirit of respect for religious and other beliefs and convictions.”
In the mean time, Dutch prime minister Balkenende is proud on how the Dutch muslim organizations responded. After all they only asked for censorship and did organized riots and nothing has been burned, yet.
But best show of ignorance was from Amsterdam socialist mayor Cohen. He went to speech in mosques, telling the true believers that he can imagine that they don’t recognize them selves in the movie. “I can not imagine that you are offended by it”.
He clearly has no clue what the offence is. Does the good mayor have no internet?
