Pace University Qur’an desecrator facing two felony charges

Spencer from JW:

Outrageous. Beyond outrageous. A book is placed in a toilet, which is a plumbing issue more than anything else and a vandalism issue at best, and a man is charged with two felonies.

LGF has the details, via an email from the defendant.

“Disrespect for the holy Koran is not now, nor has it ever been, nor will it ever be, tolerated by the United States ”

Condoleezza Rice

Who could argue with such wisdom?

This is about Stanislav Shmulevich, who has been arrested in New York for putting a Koran in a toilet at Pace University. And his case is even more outrageous than we first reported.

First, Shmulevich was arrested and jailed for 24 hours. Second, he’s not facing misdemeanor charges—he’s being charged with two felonies, criminal mischief and aggravated harassment.

Felonies. For putting a book in a toilet.

Third, his income is on a borderline that disqualifies him for a public defender, so he stands to suffer incredible financial hardship as well.

Fourth, his name and photograph were published in several newspapers in New York, and he and his mother were ambushed outside the court by reporters. In a case like this, clearly with the potential to enrage radical Muslims, this is so irresponsible of the media that it borders on criminal.

Do we still live in a country that values free speech? This case is pretty good evidence that we do not. Mr. Shmulevich is caught in a Kafkaesque nightmare right out of the Soviet Union, and it’s all happening at the demand of the Muslim Student Association and the Council on American Islamic Relations.

Stay tuned. This is not over.

* Flush a Koran, get yourself arrested and spent 4 years in the can. Burn a flag, put a crucifix in urine and call it art and you get a stipend.

But the Madonna urinals are all the rage: Have you got one yet?

  1. This whole thing is intolerable. I would like to see this story cross-posted on every ‘blog we all go to. Send it to a friend who can send it to a friend,,etc.
Instead of sending the usual crappy jokes, do something useful with your computer today.

Sheik, thanks for posting. Looking forward to updates!

  2. I don’t see what the problem was … that’s where the Koran belongs .. in a toliet.

  3. If these charges aren’t dropped, the next time I see a bible (or any other religious text) being desecrated by muslim protesters, I’m going to demand legal action.

Not that I don’t believe that muslims have the same free speech rights as the rest of us (which is evidently different that how they themselves think) I’m just a firm believer in equal application of the law. And file a Ahmed Doe lawsuit for infidelaphobia.
