1. We should continue to avoid the phrase “ground zero mosque” or “mosque at ground zero” on all platforms. (We’ve very rarely used this wording, except in slugs, though we sometimes see other news sources using the term.) The site of the proposed Islamic center and mosque is not at ground zero, but two blocks away in a busy commercial area. We should continue to say it’s “near” ground zero, or two blocks away.
WE WILL CHANGE OUR SLUG ON THIS STORY LATER TODAY from “BC-Ground Zero Mosque” to “BC-NYC Mosque.”
In short headlines, some ways to refer to the project include:
_ mosque 2 blocks from WTC site
_ Muslim (or Islamic) center near WTC site
_ mosque near ground zero
_ mosque near WTC site
We can refer to the project as a mosque, or as a proposed Islamic center that includes a mosque.
It may be useful in some stories to note that Muslim prayer services have been held since 2009 in the building that the new project will replace. The proposal is to create a new, larger Islamic community center that would include a mosque, a swimming pool, gym, auditorium and other facilities.

Daisy Khan, who founded the project along with her husband, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, said the increasing opposition — which she blamed on Republicans — has only caused organizers to become more committed.

“There is too much at stake, constitutional rights, the development of the Muslims here, how the world is watching the United States. We tell people America upholds religious freedom. We should not compromise those values,” she said in an interview with The Washington Post.

First They Came for the Terrorists

It’s a testament to the intelligence level of liberals that they prefer nursery rhymes to ideas. Whether it’s Auden’s “Those to whom evil is done, Do Evil in Return” (a verse from a Communist poet partially justifying Hitler’s invasion of Poland, that he later disavowed) or “What Would Gandhi Do?” (give up and hope his enemies felt bad while cutting off his head) or the most famous nursery rhyme of them all, “First they came for the Communists.”

This particular nursery rhymes endeavors to explain Nazis from a leftist perspective, in which Hitler’s triumph occurred because no one spoke out when Communists were being imprisoned. When in doubt, the left and various useful idiots routinely trot out revised versions of this nursery rhyme. The current popular formulation on the left is “First they came for the Terrorists.” (The Cato Institute’s attempt to write one called “First they came for the Sex Offenders and then the Terrorists” proved to be wildly unpopular as no one outside the Cato Institute or maybe its liberal counterpart, the ACLU, sympathizes with sex offenders and terrorists at the same time.)

Meanwhile, America sent in the Marines today. And of course, this isn’t the first time Gulf countries — particularly Saudi Arabia, so glutted with petrodollars — have been slow or stingy in their response to a disaster that affects their non-Arab Muslim brethren. There was the tsunami, and the needs of the World Food Program. Even in one of the latest crises in Pakistan in 2009, their slowness to respond was noted.

If anything that can be blamed on Israel happens in Gaza, they’re on it yesterday. Widespread suffering and disease from natural disasters? Meh. Allah’s will, apparently. Or maybe they’d just rather be agitating for jihad.

Great  Idea

Instead of spending $100 million on a mega-mosque at Ground Zero, why doesn’t the Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf and financier Sharif El-Gamal take the $100 million and donate it to the Pakistani flood victims?

In doing so, they’d make up for the umma’s indifference to those victims’ plight, and create a great deal of good will — which is what they keep claiming they’re trying to do. And they’d be aiding their fellow Muslims.

How come the wealthy Arabs don’t aid their Muslim brothers in Pakistan?

While Gaza is lavished with attention, money, and weapons for a vastly exaggerated “crisis” that is of Hamas’ engineering and staging (those poor people have to smuggle in luxury cars!), tens of millions of Muslims are suffering in Pakistan after the floods — hungry, wet, and under the threat of outbreaks of cholera and dysentery. The response from Islamic nations in the Arab world? Beyond lackluster, while the U.S., Britain, Japan, and other non-Muslim countries bend over backwards.

The question for the Muslim governments of the petrodollar-glutted Gulf: Are you racists, regarding the needs of your non-Arab brethren as less important, or would you just rather be waging jihad?

Arab states cut aid to PA

Arab states have cut financial aid to the Palestinian Authority so far this year and the United Nations has warned of a looming Palestinian cash crisis.

“The Arabs are not paying. We urge them to meet their financial pledges,” said Saleh Rafat, a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s executive committee and one of the few Palestinian officials willing to speak out on the matter.

Arab government officials declined to comment on the issue.

The failure of some wealthy Arab states to pay up is frustrating Western governments, which are big contributors to the Palestinian territories. The situation is also leaving officials in the West Bank with a budget headache. (IMRA)

The Media That Defends Ground Zero Mosque Also Defended Burning Down Synagogues In Gaza

What is quite apparent is that those who argue against the Ground Zero Mosque only from a point of view of it’s propriety and not against Tolerance of Islam per-se, in the end are as much of the problem as those who favor it’s construction based on multicultural tolerance and untested first amendment rights to build it. Tolerance of evil and ideologies antithetical to America and American values is pure stupidity and might be that which destroys America from within. Oh, really?

Only two months before, on March 24, 2010, Abdul Rauf is quoted in an article in Arabic for the website Rights4All entitled “The Most Prominent Imam in New York: ‘I Do Not Believe in Religious Dialogue.’”

Yes, you read that correctly and, yes, that is an accurate translation of Abdul Rauf. And Right4All is not an obscure blog, but the website of the media department of Cairo University, the leading educational institution of the Arabic-speaking world.

In the article, the imam said the following of the “religious dialogue” and “interweaving into the mainstream society” that he so solemnly seems to advocate in the Daily News and elsewhere:

This phrase is inaccurate. Religious dialogue as customarily understood is a set of events with discussions in large hotels that result in nothing. Religions do not dialogue and dialogue is not present in the attitudes of the followers, regardless of being Muslim or Christian. The image of Muslims in the West is complex which needs to be remedied.

But that was two months ago. More recently — in fact on May 26, one day after his Daily News column –  Abdul Rauf appeared on the popular Islamic website Hadiyul-Islam with even more disturbing opinions. That’s the same website where, ironically enough, a fatwa was simultaneously being issued forbidding a Muslim to sell land to a Christian, because the Christian wanted to build a church on it. The media is making a very big deal out of the tolerance and sensitivity that is lacking in those who oppose building of the Ground Zero Mosque, writing about how the freedom of religion and the right to build a mosque trumps the emotions raised by the destruction of the World Trade Center by Muslim terrorists and the insistence of an imam to build a mosque nearby.

Funny–that tolerance and sensitivity was thrown out the window when the media felt the need to justify the destruction of the synagogues left in Gaza after the Disengagement. Read More

2 years after the Obama election fiasco American's are asking: is this guy a Muslim?

A new poll showed that nearly one in five people, or 18 percent, believe Obama is Muslim.

Why did it take so long?

Its not even a question, really. The son of a Muslim is a Muslim. His whole Kenyan tribe is Muslim. Obama’s stepfather was Muslim.  His whole focus, his behavior, his associates, every action he takes,  his worldview, is Islamic. To deny that means to deny that the Obama-bastard is not his fathers son:

White House spokesman Bill Burton made the remark Thursday, hours after a poll showed 18 percent of Americans think Obama is Muslim, up from 11 percent who thought so last year. A third think he’s Christian, and 4 in 10 say they don’t know Obama’s religion.

Burton told reporters aboard Air Force One that most Americans care more about the economy and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and, he says, are “not reading a lot of news about what religion the president is.”

Burton said: “The president is obviously a Christian. He prays every day.”

Sharif El Gamal, a waiter  5 years ago and now multimillion dollar developer of Ground Zero mosque, just got himself into hot water over trying to spook Raheel Raza, a founding member of the Muslim Canadian Congress, who called the idea of a mosque within 300 metres of Ground Zero in New York “a deliberate provocation.”

True to form, the slick  soldier of Allah denies he ever tried  to intimidate  or threaten Raheel Raza,  but the number on Raza’s cellphone matches that of El Gamal’s Soho Properties offices in New York. Raza says El Gamal’s tone was threatening and she took the phone call as a clear threat against her and not as some claim, a casual phrase meaning goodbye.

“Why would I need Allah’s protection?” asked Raza.

We need to celebrate diversity by acknowledging that Ground Zero is a hallowed site for Muslims as well as for Jews and Christians, and it is only right that they should build a mosque there. Norwegian journalist Paul Refsdal risked his life to become the first Westerner to film behind Taliban lines inAfghanistan, and see the fight between the allied forces and the insurgency from the Taliban’s viewpoint.

Now Dateline brings you his remarkable story, as Paul witnesses several ambushes of US troops on the Khyber Pass, and films celebrations over the death of a US soldier.

But he also captures a human side of the Taliban, as insurgents relax, pray, eat together, and look after the children of Taliban commander, Dawran.

Paul comes under threat himself too, as a US gunship attacks and he’s kidnapped by one of the Taliban group which took him in.
