"Sudden Jihad Syndrome" in Nebraska

“Worker shoots three at warehouse”

A WORKER entered the lunchroom of a cold-storage warehouse in eastern Nebraska and started firing a handgun, wounding three employees before going outside to shoot himself in the head, authorities said.

County Attorney Tad Eickman identified the gunman at the Americold Logistics plant near Crete as 26-year-old Akouch Kashoual of Lincoln.

He said Kashoual entered the lunchroom around 9.50pm local time Wednesday and started shooting, before going outside the plant to shoot himself dead.

Mr Eickman didn’t give any information about Kashoual’s motive. There was no answer at the phone listing for Kashoual’s apartment in Lincoln.

No one answered the door of his apartment and there was no sign of any activity. The apartment is in a 21-unit, low-rent complex near downtown and the state Capitol.

Those wounded were Elizabeth Canas, Renee Villareal and Paul Rivera, all workers at the plant who live in Crete, Mr Eickman said. They were being treated at area hospitals. (The Australian has more)

  1. Things to make you go hmmm:

[An aunt who answered the phone at Kashoual’s home Thursday said the family has no idea what prompted the violence.

“This kid didn’t talk to nobody,” said the aunt.

She said her nephew did not leave a note and had never mentioned any problems at his workplace. He had lived in Lincoln since about 2007, she said. The family immigrated from Egypt.]

We might get a clearer idea when the local mosque is “shocked, shocked”, or when a “history of mental illness” emerges.
