STRASBOURG (AFP) – Syria’s top Sunni Muslim cleric urged the media Tuesday to use caution when reporting on religion, saying that the choice and timing of a report can cause a war.

“A simple piece of information can spark a war. If a man dies because of information that you have made public, his death will be on your conscience,” Shiekh Ahmed Badreddin Hassun told reporters at the European Parliament.

In other words: “Hi! Thanks for having us. Here are our demands.” The response should be a brief language lesson — free of charge — consisting of the meaning of one word: No. And since it’s Canada, they can learn about the French word, too: Non.

WINNIPEG — A dozen Muslim families who recently arrived in Canada have told Winnipeg’s Louis Riel School Division that they want their children excused from compulsory elementary school music and coed physical education programs for religious and cultural reasons.

“This is one of our realities in Manitoba now, as a result of immigration,” said superintendent Terry Borys. “We were faced with some families who were really adamant about this. Music was not part of the cultural reality.”

It’s not just “not part of the cultural reality.” The hostility to music and musical instruments within Islam is rooted in the fact that, according to authoritative Islamic sources, Muhammad detested music as intensely as he hated crucifixes: “Allah Mighty and Majestic sent me as a guidance and mercy to believers and commanded me to do away with musical instruments, flutes, strings, crucifixes, and the affair of the pre-Islamic period of ignorance.”

And “On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will pour molten lead into the ears of whoever sits listening to a songstress.”

You only had to worry about the bogeyman under the bed when you were a kid. How about the creator of the universe waiting to pour molten lead in your ears?

Ayman al Zawahiri’s deputy releases statement in support of Egyptian opposition

Ayman al Zawahiri’s top deputy, Thirwat Salah Shehata, has released a statement praising the Egyptian people and calling for President Hosni Mubarak’s ouster.

Shehata is a longtime member of Egyptian Islamic Jihad (EIJ), a core part of al Qaeda, and has served Zawahiri since the 1980s. In the statement, which was released on jihadist message boards known to carry al Qaeda propaganda, Shehata calls on the Egyptian people to “remain steadfast” and refuse to settle for economic concessions from Mubarak’s regime.

Obama, Egypt & History of the Muslim Brotherhood

As Egyptians ponder revolution, the globe awaits how this will effect energy prices, Middle East relations, and world stability, especially considering agitation by the Muslim Brotherhood. It is mystifying how Obama supports these protestors, while admitting he hadn’t yet called Mubarak—America’s ally and Egypt’s president. Remember Obama’s deer-in-the-headlights routine when Iranians protested rigged elections. So what is different this time?

As with all things Barack, if we scratch beneath the surface of superficial incompetence we find a genuine commitment to real leftism. It is axiomatic what excites Obama is some form of revolutionary liberalism, hence his “Change” mantra, and all subsequent progressive policies and past associations.

So his backing leftist radicals makes splendid sense considering his instinctual sympathy for Marxist revolutions, Hegel’s fatalism and hem-of-the-garment Islamism. These issues are the topic of this essay.

North Dakota: Somali man held as “person of interest” in murder of Native American family

A Somali man with a history of violent crime has been interviewed as “a person of interest” in the deaths of his daughter’s mother and three others and is being held by U.S. immigration officials, authorities said Thursday.

Omar Mohamed Kalmio, 26, is the father of an infant girl found alive last week in the Minot apartment of 19-year-old Sabrina Zephier, who was found dead Friday, Minot Police Chief Jeff Balentine told The Associated Press on Thursday. Sabrina Zephier’s mother, Jolene Zephier, 38; brother, Dillon Zephier, 13; and Jolene Zephier’s boyfriend, Jeremy Longie, 22, were found slain in nearby mobile home less than an hour later.

“We have interviewed (Kalmio), and he is a person of interest,” Balentine said.

Authorities had lost track of the “person of interest” in 2006 and found him again in 2010:

Will British PM David Cameron deliver or is he just another BLiar?

He gets it wrong on it being a racist issue. It’s a religious issue. And this is breathtaking in its delusion and denial,

“In the speech, Mr Cameron drew a clear distinction between Islam the religion and what he described as “Islamist extremism” AND THIS “”We need to be clear: Islamist extremism and Islam are not the same thing”

It’s just a matter of degrees in piety.

Is this the same David Cameron who has let it be known that he will do his utmost to make sure Turkey gains EU membership so millions of uneducated, religiously indoctrinated Anatolian goat herders can flood into Europe and further undermine our countries?

It is no secret that, for some time, the Prime Minister David Cameron has been expected to make a speech setting out his Government’s approach to the threat of Islamist terrorism, extremism and incitement.

Some of you may have heard rumours that the Prime Minister had been persuaded  to “tone down” the speech, to suit the tastes of the Peter Obornes of this world. Indeed, only a few days ago Oborne was arguing - with a straight face – that institutions aligned with Islamist political parties which foster and promote hatred of others, are a valuable bulwark against Al Qaeda (rather than a validator of their narrative) and that they play “an important role in enabling Muslims to vent their anger and frustrations” (rather than reinforcing anomie and mistrust).

I am pleased to say that David Cameron has completely rejected that thesis, in the clearest possible language. I recommend that you read his speech, when it is published.
