No One Expects the Muslim Inquisition

Monty Python may have surprised us with the Spanish Inquisition, but today there is hardly anyone who doesn’t expect the Muslim Inquisition. It is almost hard to imagine that there was a time not so long ago when it was possible to catch sight of Muslim terrorists in films and when it was permissible to crack jokes about Mohammed and the mountain.

Today a few strokes of a pen can put you on the run, not in Islambad or Ridyah, but as far away as Seattle. And the mere whisper of a mosque protest can put you in a jail cell for ‘breach of peace’. Peace being another way of saying Islam.

Ever since Mohammed couched his demand for surrender to the Byzantine Emperor with the words, ‘Aslim Taslam’– appeasing Muslims often comes giftwrapped as ‘peace’. From the ‘Peace Process’ that condemns Israel to carve itself up to appease Muslim terror, to Terry Jones planted in a Dearbornistan jail cell for ‘Breach of Peace’ on charges of plotting to exercise his Constitutional right to protest– the Religion of Peace finds ways to remind us that in the Islamic lexicon, peace is just another way of saying ‘submission’. As Mohammed told Heracilus back in the day, the only peace to be found is under the rule of Islam.

Is it Racist to Criticize Islam?

Is Ayaan Hirsi Ali a racist? She was born in Somalia, from which she escaped to avoid an arranged marriage, and she eventually became a member of Parliament in the Netherlands.

She helped produce a film with Theo Van Gogh which criticized Islam’s treatment of women. Van Gogh was shot to death by a Muslim in retaliation, and a note was pinned to his chest with a knife — a note that threatened Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

She made her way to the United States, and has since written two books critical of Islam: Infidel and Nomad: From Islam to America: A Personal Journey Through the Clash of Civilizations.

Is Wafa Sultan a racist? She was born and raised in Syria, and was trained as a psychiatrist.

On February 21, 2006, she took part in an Al Jazeera discussion program, arguing with the hosts about Samuel P. Huntington’sClash of Civilizations theory. A six-minute composite video of her response was widely circulated on blogs and through email. The New York Times estimated it was seen at least one million times. In the video she criticized Muslims for treating non-Muslims differently, and for not recognizing the accomplishments of Jews and other non-Muslims. The video was the most-discussed video of all time with over 260,000 comments on YouTube.

Is Brigitte Gabriel a racist? She’s an Arab, born in Lebanon. Gabriel watched her country become an Islamic state. Lebanon was a Christian country and “the jewel of the Middle East” when she was young. But the Muslims in Lebanon, supported by Syria and Iran, slowly became more militant until they turned the country into a war zone.

She made her way to America only to find, to her horror, the Muslim Brotherhood here in her newly adopted country, going down the same road. She decided to warn her fellow Americans about the dire results you can expect from appeasing orthodox Muslims, so she founded ACT! for America, a grassroots organization dedicated to educating the public about Islam’s prime directive.

We’ll see how long this lasts, of course. This BBC report speculates: “it will end the bitter hostility between the two sides and remove a significant barrier to the Palestinian campaign for statehood.”

No, the re-incorporation of an entity with the stated purpose of destroying Israel into a Palestinian government does nothing — or ought to do nothing — to advance a Palestinian state.

Where else would this be tolerated? Suppose a chunk of Belgium demanded international recognition as a state while broadcasting the explicit intention of destroying the Netherlands as an entity, taking it over, and slaughtering and subjugating the Dutch, all the while lobbing rockets over the border. Ridiculous, isn’t it? But double standards abound.

The real question isn’t why the Regime would release a suspicious-looking birth certificate after sitting on it for years, but why it’s being hyped into such an issue at this point in the game. Obama was elected the first time despite people knowing that he was a close associate of unrepentant communist terrorist Bill Ayers and racist anti-American hatemonger Jeremiah Wright. He had already stated for the record that he intended tobankrupt the coal industry, cause energy prices to skyrocket, and radically lower our standard of living. Yet having been reduced to zombies by generations of politically correct brainwashing, people were suicidally depraved enough to vote for him anyway.

Next time he will have had four years to spread around our money, our children’s money, and our grandchildren’s money by the hundreds of $billions to ensure his reelection. No fishy birth certificate is going to slow down his continued “fundamental transformation” of America — although it might help his media enablers to characterize the resistance as conspiracy kooks.

Correcting the politically correct nonsense that has perverted reality way to long. Long overdue, to say the least.

In 2001, former president Bill Clinton delivered a speech at Georgetown University in which he discussed the West’s response to the recent terrorist attacks of September 11. The speech contained a short but significant reference to the crusades. Mr. Clinton observed that “when the Christian soldiers took Jerusalem [in 1099], they . . . proceeded to kill every woman and child who was Muslim on the Temple Mount.” He cited the “contemporaneous descriptions of the event” as describing “soldiers walking on the Temple Mount . . . with blood running up to their knees.” This story, Mr. Clinton said emphatically, was “still being told today in the Middle East and we are still paying for it.”
This view of the crusades is not unusual. It pervades textbooks as well as popular literature. One otherwise generally reliable Western civilization textbook claims that “the Crusades fused three characteristic medieval impulses: piety, pugnacity, and greed. All three were essential.”(1) The film Kingdom of Heaven (2005) depicts crusaders as boorish bigots, the best of whom were torn between remorse for their excesses and lust to continue them. Even the historical supplements for role-playing games — drawing on supposedly more reliable sources — contain statements such as “The soldiers of the First Crusade appeared basically without warning, storming into the Holy Land with the avowed — literally — task of slaughtering unbelievers”;(2) “The Crusades were an early sort of imperialism”;(3) and “Confrontation with Islam gave birth to a period of religious fanaticism that spawned the terrible Inquisition and the religious wars that ravaged Europe during the Elizabethan era.”(4) The most famous semi-popular historian of the crusades, Sir Steven Runciman, ended his three volumes of magnificent prose with the judgment that the crusades were “nothing more than a long act of intolerance in the name of God, which is the sin against the Holy Ghost.”(5)

Zakat is not about charity, but jihad. (Andrew McCarthy)

In the United States, rules on charitable giving have made it harder for Muslims to fulfill their religious obligation,” President Obama claimed during his 2009 Cairo speech. “That is why I am committed to working with American Muslims to ensure that they can fulfill zakat.”

This statement contained two falsehoods. One, as I’ve previously detailed, was obvious: There are, in fact, no American laws or rules that make it harder for Muslims to give to charity. What we have are laws against material support of terrorism — against using devices like charitable fronts to channel money to jihadists. Those laws are not directed at Muslims. They apply to everyone but are applied most often to Muslims, because Muslims carry out most anti-American terrorism.

The other falsehood was more subtle: the president’s suggestion that the religious obligation of zakat — one of the “five pillars of Islam” — is the equivalent of “charitable giving.” It is not. Zakat is every Muslim’s obligation to contribute to the fortification of the ummah, the notional worldwide Islamic nation. And that very much includes the funding of violent jihad against non-Muslims.
