Here is Khaled Meshaal, giving an interview yesterday from his palatial quarters in Qatar:
Asked about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s comments this week that “Hamas is like ISIS, ISIS is like Hamas,” Meshaal called the comparison a “lie” designed to “trick” the American public.
“We are not a religious, violent group,” Meshaal said, calling ISIL (the Islamist militant group also known as ISIS) a “totally different phenomenon. We are fighting against aggression in our land.”
The obvious absurdity is that remark about Hamas not being a “religious, violent group.” Religion, and violence, or religion-inspired violence, is what Hamas is, what Hamas has been, what Hamas will always be. Its Charter, its propaganda, its way of attracting and keeping adherents, is suffused with Islam, with the texts — Qur’an, Hadith, Sira — of Islam. It is the example of Muhammad that inspires, it is excerpts from the Qur’an that inflame. Hamas is all about Islamic texts and teachings; it relies on nothing else, it appeals to nothing else, it has nothing else. In this it is exactly like ISIS.
There’s one truth unwittingly expressed, and that is the terror that Khaled Meshaal, and his terror group Hamas, and Hezbollah, and all other Muslim groups devoted to the Jihad against Israel, feel when they sense that Infidels, beginning with the Israelis, are making the connection between what they are doing, and what ISIS does, or Ansar Al-Islam, or Tablighi-e-Jamaat, or other groups, violent or “political,” that are engaged in the local Jihads whose sum is the single Great Jihad which is the struggle, mandated for Believers, to remove all obstacles to the spread, and then the dominance, of Islam, and of Muslims, all over the world.
It’s true that the war against the Infidel nation-state of Israel has gotten a lot of attention, and that is understandable. On the To-Do List of the Muslims, destruction of Israel was at the top. But that was before three things happened. Those three things are this:
1) The trillions of dollars in undeserved oil and gas revenues, some 25 trillion dollars since 1973 alone, that have gone almost entirely to Arab and Muslim-dominated (Nigeria) members of OPEC.
2) The technological advances made in the Western world that the Muslims have managed to appropriate and use for their own purposes in spreading the ideology of Islam, in disseminating its full message, so that “village Muslims” who were once largely unaware, because illiterate, of much of what is contained in Qur’an and Hadith have been made well aware, and the use of audiocassettes (which Ayatollah Khomeini recorded during his exile in France, and then hundreds of thousands of copies were made and distributed all over Iran), and then videocassettes, and satellite television, and the Internet, where Muslims become inspired, and inflamed, by the many acts of Muslim derring-do, including slitting the throats on camera of assorted Infidels.
3) The admission of millons of Muslims into non-Muslim lands, where they have been allowed to settle and to behave aggressively, acting as if “we are here to stay and there is nothing you can do about it” (as if by repeating this phrase it will be taken as true), by Western governments too ill-informed, and too lazy and negligent to find out, about Islam, its texts, its teachings, its attitudes, its atmospherics, and now, when there is no excuse not to know, there is still a desperate desire not to have to inform Western publics of this frightening truth, and to have them confront the situation where so many Muslims have already been allowed in, so many that everyone is afraid to publicly recognize the situation, for fear of how those Muslims will react, so the problem just grows and grows and grows, but does not disappear, and things will only get worse.
Now it should be clear that Israel is not the cause of Muslim hostility, and that throwing Israel to the Muslim wolves by failing to understand, and sympathize, with its attempts to defend itself against what is a Jihad without end, will not sate, but merely whet, Muslim and Arab appetites, and make things worse for the rest of the West.
Meshall, and other Muslims, hate that connection made to ISIS. But what is ISIS if not the product of an attempt, by tens or hundreds of thousands of Muslims from all over the world, to behave as they know Muhammad and his earliest followers behaved? They can quote Qur’anic verses to support their every act, their every decision, their every atrocity. Their guide is not only the Qur’an, but the behavior of Muhammad as a warrior, as set down in written form in the Hadith (the record of the acts and words of Muhammad) and the Sira (the biography of Muhammad), that is the two elements that make up what is called the Sunna.
It must be, for Khaled Meshaal, and Muslims living in the West, hoping their numbers can increase before the Western Infidels make sufficient sense of Islam to recognize its meaning, and therefore, its menace, a worrying event, when Netanyahu makes the connection between Hamas and ISIS and Hezbollah and all the other groups,f from Kashmir to Dearborn, from Bradford to Santiago, Chile, that are local in their immediate aims, but identical in their long-term unswerving permanent goals.
