The truth is, Muslim leaders are speaking out, but their voices are drowned out by sensationalism, such as the comments made by Palmer United Party MP Jacqui Lambie onÂ InsidersÂ last week when she equated sharia law to terrorism. Lambie’s comments got a lot more media attention than when the Australian National Imams Council issued a media statement on September 15, that likened Islamic State to a “group of criminals” with nothing Islamic about their murderous actions, and stated: “Since the ISIS group was established we have been very clear about denouncing their lies and betrayal of our faith.”

The problem is that its not the truth. The jihadists are not betraying their ‘faith’, and the “moderates like Sweid are engaged in taqiyya, religiously mandated lying, to protect Islam from scrutiny.Â

Teenage angst can cause all kinds of unfortunate behaviour, but when schoolgirls tell their parents they want to join the fight in Syria and Iraq, then society has a serious problem. Alarmingly, this isÂ increasingly happening in France, as young Muslims express their desire for jihad. Worse still, anÂ estimated 100-150Â young women and girls have actually joined groups such as the self-styled Islamic State (Isis), travelling to a war zone to devote their lives to setting up a highly militarised caliphate and, if necessary, dying for the cause.

Feelings hurt: Muselmaniacs and useful idiots complain about musicians in Taliban dress

There is no fun in Islam….

A group ofÂ Middle Eastern studentsÂ say they were offended and isolated by a “controversial” Canterbury University club event that attracted nearly 100 complaints.

Some have joined more than 500 people in signing a petition “against racism and Islamophobia” in the Engineering Society (Ensoc) RoUndie 500. The event caused a stir with feminists last month because some cars and costumes poked fun at women and minority groups. Ensoc encouraged themes “the more inappropriate the better”.

One car was called “Taliband”, with musicians in Taliban dress with ammunition strapped around their waists, and another was the Gaza Strip-ers, featuring ladies in mini-skirt burqas and men without pants wearing teatowels on their heads.

Sounds like fun.

Nine Egyptian, Palestinian and Syrian students last week posted a public letter on the Ensoc Facebook page saying “insensitivity and racism are not laughing matters”.

The owner of prominent Muslim clothing store Boutique Nour al Houda in Greenacre, in Sydney’s southwest, said he received the letter about a month ago and reported it to police.

After becoming the target for racially motivated abuse in recent weeks, the store owner â€” who wanted to be known only as Sal â€” has removed a collection of large flags, including some displaying the Islamic creed praising MohamÂmed, the national flags of several Middle Eastern countries and the Australian flag.

“We have a business to run, we don’t need these wankers coming around and telling us they’re going to blow us up, so we took them all down,” Sal said. “Now we are suffering … we live in Australia, one of the best countries in the world, and now we are the targets.”

Aarhus, Denmark –Â Muslims living in one of Denmark’s most deprived housing projects say they are being marginalised and made to feel unwelcome in their own community amid fears that their 14-year fight for a mosque could be derailed by political wrangling over an ambitious regeneration plan for the area.

Residents in Gellerup, a suburb of Aarhus, Denmark’s second city, have been campaigning since 2000 for the right to build a mosque in their neighbourhood. They say it would serve not only the needs of a growing Muslim population but also as a “beacon of hope”, a bulwark against extremism and a symbol of their acceptance as Danish citizens.

But their aspirations have been repeatedly stalled by political opposition to the project. Now those behind the latest proposal say that promises made by politicians and city officials that a fresh application to buy land for a mosque would be treated favourably have been broken following objections by right-wing parties on the local council.

On Wednesday, Metin Aydin, the architect working on the mosque design, told Al Jazeera he had withdrawn from the project in protest at the failure of local leaders to deliver on commitments they had made to the Muslim community.

“I think what has happened has been disgraceful,” he said. “I am done with working on a project that is not reality. As long as this political circus is going on, there is no chance of realising anything.”
