ISIS brides return to Australia from Syria

A small group of Australian women and their children who are linked to Islamic State  have quietly returned home after escaping Syria.

A small group of Australian women, the so-called ISIS Brides, and their children who are linked to the Islamic State have quietly returned home after escaping Syria.

The six women recently arrived in Beirut, where Lebanese authorities detained them for lacking visas. After passing DNA and security checks, they were issued Australian passports and flown back.

The women and children had long been monitored by Australian agencies, which anticipated some might try to return independently. Many in the wider cohort had lived under Islamic State rule and were held in Syrian camps since 2019.

Their circumstances vary; some travelled knowingly, while others say they were coerced or were children at the time.

Most of the children of Islamic State members who are over eight years old had already been indoctrinated and given military training to become “cubs of the caliphate”, according to the Kurdish authorities in Syria.

The terror declaration came as the casualty figure for the attack was again revised upwards. Two members of the UK Jewish community have died, and four people are critically injured and receiving treatment at hospital. In addition to those victims, the alleged perpetrator himself also died at the scene, having been shot dead by armed police.

Police Declare Manchester Synagogue Attack a ‘Terrorist Incident’

British counter-terrorism police say according to the information they have, the combined car-knife attack on worshippers at a Manchester Synagogue is a “terrorist incident”.

Head of Counter Terrorism Policing Laurence Taylor said the evidence before officers on Thursday morning’s attack on the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester, England has led them to conclude that it may have been a terrorist act. The senior police officer said in a statement this afternoon: “based on what we know, counter terrorism policing has declared this as a terrorist incident. Our specialist teams are now leading the investigation into what happened.”

Three people have been arrested after an attacker killed two men at a Manchester synagogue in an atrocity Jewish leaders say they “knew would come”.
