Going by the description, all that this much-vaunted display of faux-piety involves, is stuffing your face from dusk till dawn and then spending the daylight hours digesting what you ingested during the night…Mohammed Taha does dawa and the ABC lets him do it.

‘The south-west Sydney suburb of Lakemba is transformed of a night into a vibrant (bzzzzt!  we weren’t going to get through an article about an Islamified suburb celebrating Ramadan – the month of jihad, too, it is, traditionally, but Mr Mohammed Taha, dawa artist, will not mention that awkward little fact – without the word “vibrant” putting in an appearance – CM) that attracts thousands of people (sic: Muslims – I doubt there are very many non-Muslim individuals or families who’d be game to venture into those crowds – anybody want to bet what might happen to anyone who put on a Star of David and then tried to walk through that “vibrant” crowd? – CM) to the streets to celebrate Ramadan.

‘The Islamic month began last week for Australia’s Muslims, marking a time when they fast from dawn until dusk without any food or water.

Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the prominent Sunni religious leader, denounced Baghdadi’s caliphate announcement as violating Islamic law.

He said in a statement on Saturday that the declaration was “void under sharia”.

“The declaration issued by the Islamic State is void under sharia and has dangerous consequences for the Sunnis in Iraq and for the revolt in Syria,” he said.

“We look forward to the coming caliphate.”
