He’s Saudi author and cleric, “Dr.” Muhammad Al-‘Arifi, who in a remarkable segment broadcast on Saudi and Kuwaiti television in September, counseled young Muslim men on how to treat their wives.
“Admonish them – once, twice, three times, four times, ten times,” he advised. “If this doesn’t help, refuse to share their beds.”
And if that doesn’t work?
“Beat them,” one of his three young advisees responded.
“That’s right,” Al-‘Arifi said.

Even his attempts at counseling restraint are bizarre and disturbing:

He goes on to calmly explain to the young men that hitting their future wives in the face is a no-no.
“Beating in the face is forbidden, even when it comes to animals,” he explained. “Even if you want your camel or donkey to start walking, you are not allowed to beat it in the face. If this is true for animals, it is all the more true when it comes to humans. So beatings should be light and not in the face.”
His final words of wisdom?

“Woman, it has gone too far. I can’t bear it anymore,” he tells the men to tell their wives. “If he beats her, the beatings must be light and must not make her face ugly.
“He must beat her where it will not leave marks. He should not beat her on the hand… He should beat her in some places where it will not cause any damage. He should not beat her like he would beat an animal or a child — slapping them right and left.
“Unfortunately, many husbands beat their wives only when they get mad, and when they start beating, it as if they are punching a wall – they beat with their hands, right and left, and sometimes use their feet. Brother, it is a human being you are beating. This is forbidden. He must not do this.”

“I am close enough to Hillary and Huma to tell you that this ‘rumor’ is true,” the official says. “It is well known inside her campaign that Hillary and Huma are an item.

“If you call Hillary’s residence in DC first thing in the morning, Huma answers the phone,” the official continues. “Same thing late at night and on the road. It’s a closely guarded secret that Hillary’s inner circle guards at all costs.”

Her family then relocated to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where she lived until returning to the States for college. She attended George Washington University. Her father, who died when she was 17, was an Islamic and Middle Eastern scholar of Indian decent. He founded his own institute devoted to Western-Eastern and interfaith understanding and reconciliation and published a journal focusing on Muslim minorities living in the diaspora. Her mother, a renowned professor in Saudi Arabia, is Pakistani.

Pakistan Polls and Growing Support for Islamism

* Pakistan exists because of Islam. It is not ‘Islamism’ or ‘fundamentalist Islam’ or ‘militant Islam’ or any other kind.

* Islam: that and nothing else, matters.

Two recent polls of Pakistanis show that between 60 and 76 percent of those polled seek the growth of Sharia throughout Pakistan, which is a key principle in political Islamism. The enforcement of Sharia throughout Pakistan is the stated goal of the Taliban in Pakistan.

The Islamist aspects of these poll findings are not news headlines because America lacks a policy and a coherent position on Islamism. However, these polls are not only informative to American taxpayers funding the Pakistan efforts in the “war on terror”, but also should be a red flag to American policy makers regarding its long-term relationship with Pakistan as well as the underlying ideological disconnects between U.S. policy and Pakistani public opinion.

In the most recent World Public Opinion poll of Pakistanis, it was found that 60 percent of Pakistanis believe that “Sharia should play a larger role in Pakistan law” than it does now. Per this recent World Public Opinion poll, only 26 percent say Sharia should play the same role (15 percent) or a smaller role (11 percent) and 15 percent do not answer.

Most of the news stories based on the recent World Public Opinion poll of Pakistanis have been focused on the limited support within Pakistan in pursuing Al Qaeda or in fighting “insurgents”, and these are legitimate tactical war concerns: (a) only 44 percent favor the Pakistani Army pursuing Al Qaeda, (b) only 48 percent would support the Pakistan Army acting against “Taliban insurgents who have crossed over from Afghanistan”, and (c) nearly 80 percent are against US pursuing Al Qaeda or Taliban in Pakistan. But the underlying problem in U.S. relationships with Pakistan are demonstrated by the polls indication of significant Pakistani support for Islamism.

Nor is this the only poll that shows such Pakistani sentiment. A month earlier, a poll of Pakistani opinion, taken for Terror Free Tomorrow, yielded similar results on Islamism and support for Jihadist groups. Once again, the Islamist results were not the headline story, but they were a significant finding. To the question regarding Pakistani positions on the need for “implementing strict Sharia law throughout Pakistan”, 76 percent of the Terror Free Tomorrow poll responders viewed this as “important”. This 76 percent was comprised of 41.2 percent that viewed this as “very important” and 34.8 percent that viewed this as “somewhat important”.

The Terror Free Tomorrow Pakistani poll also showed 46 percent of Pakistanis in that poll having a favorable view of Osama Bin Laden (and only 26 percent having an unfavorable view). Other results of the Terror Free Tomorrow Pakistan poll showed: (a) 74 percent opposing US pursuing Al Qaeda or Taliban in Pakistan, (b) 37 to 49 percent approving local Pakistani Jihadi groups, and (c) half of those responding approving of the Taliban.

The American long-term strategy with Pakistan must be clarified if 60 to 76 percent of its population seek to turn Pakistan into an Islamist, Sharia-based nation.

As the US spends $150 million per month in Pakistan ($11 billion since 2001), and as President Bush seeks another $60 billion for Pakistan’s tribal areas, the percent of “moderates” within Pakistan needs to be evaluated, in determining the relative likelihood of long-term success of anti-Jihad efforts in that nation.

The Iraqi embassy in Stockholm has admitted issuing 26,000 passports based on false documentation to asylum seekers in Sweden and Norway. Migration minister Tobias Billström is set to meet his Norwegian counterpart in Oslo on Wednesday to discuss the matter.

Details surrounding the fraudulent passport applications first emerged in Norwegian press after police cracked a forgery ring in Oslo. The Iraqi ambassador to Sweden informed Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten that the embassy had issued passports based on false documentation simply because it did not have the resources to check the authenticity of the paperwork.

“We have known for a long time that the Iraqi embassy has been issuing passports on false premises, but what can we do about it? This is a question for the foreign ministry. They know about this. We have presented the information in various reports,” Bengt Hellström from the Swedish Migration Board told Metro.

He added that the Migration Board has received numerous tip-offs over the last two years suggesting that people from Syria, Iran, Turkey and Lebanon have been able to get passports from the Iraqi embassy.

Gustaf Lind, secretary of state at the justice department, says that his department has known about the problem for a month.

“What we have done is to get civil servants at the justice department and the Migration Board to check out the information. We haven’t really formed a judgment yet but the foreign ministry has called the Iraqi ambassador in to discuss the matter on Wednesday,” said Lind.

The Migration Board received reports in autumn of last year that a certain type of Iraqi passport in circulation was of inferior quality and relatively easy to manipulate.

“We are looking into whether we should approve this type of passport. We will probably make a decision in February,” said Marianne Andersson, a spokeswoman for the Migration Board.

She adds that a number of EU countries – UK, Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg – have already decided not to approve the type of passport in question.

“The passport itself may be authentic but it may not be clear whether individuals really are who they claim to be,” said Andersson.

Cherie Blair has criticised Muslim religious dress for women where it fails to acknowledge “the woman’s right to be a person.”

The wife of former Prime Minister Tony Blair warned against the full-face veil, or niqab, worn by strictly Islamic women worldwide because it could prevent a woman from expressing her personality.

Mrs Blair, a practising Roman Catholic who is to publish her own memoirs in October next year, admitted that she had herself been educated by Catholic nuns who wore veils. She said she had no problem with women covering their heads.

“Islamophobia” Used To Crush Criticism of Islam

CNSNews.com) – Muslim extremists are branding opponents “Islamophobes” in an effort to paint themselves as the victim and silence dissent and opposition to their political and religious beliefs, according to a panel convened in Washington, D.C., Tuesday.
“‘Islamophobia’ has become … the new battleground in this war” on terrorism, Anne Bayefsky, a senior fellow at the conservative Hudson Institute, said at the panel discussion.

She said the term “inverts victim and perpetrator” by portraying Islamic fanatics as the victim, thus allowing them to label dissent as a violation of human rights and, in effect, silence dissent.

The Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) at the United Nations has been lobbying hard for bans against “Islamaphobia, which are “tantamount to blasphemy strictures that have been used to curtail freedoms of expression, press, and religion by some of the OIC’s most repressive member states,” noted the Hudson Institute in its preview to the panel discussion.

The term “Islamaphobia” will be a major focus of the 2009 U.N. World Conference on Racism in Durban, South Africa.

Hazel Blears, Communities Secretary, said that the money will be targeted at Muslim communities and rejected suggestions that the funding discriminated against other faith groups.

Ms Blears said: “This is a generational issue. We have got to get to young people – five to 15-year-olds, as well as the teenagers who are currently being targeted – and strengthen their resilience, so that they can say to the extremists ’I am comfortable with being a Muslim in Britain today and I want no part of it’.”

A Turkish refugee in Switzerland who lives with a Romanian women and her 3 children has been refused permission to bring his second wife and cannot bring his first wife either. The Turk went to the High Court in Bern but was unsuccessful. Bringing his former wives failed because he lived separate from them since 1994. Bringing the 11 children to Switzerland was also refused because the Turk could not prove that any of his children had any relationship to Switzerland, which would have justified his demand. The Court in Bern also had doubts that the Turk would be able to support 11 children plus the 3 kids of his Romanian Concubine.

Germany cracks down on forced marriages

* Long overdue, but better late than never:

Chancellor Angela Merkel has joined a growing movement to criminalize forced marriages in Germany, which is growing less tolerant of practices among Muslim immigrants that clash with the nation’s liberal social values.

Forced marriages are generally imposed by young women’s families to keep them from dating. Prosecution is rare and must take place under assault laws that also outlaw threats and coercion.

Women’s’ groups have been increasingly pushing for forced marriages to be specifically criminalized, to ease prosecution and to send a strong signal that the practice violates German laws and traditions.

“I completely agree that forced marriages should be punishable as a criminal act,” Merkel said in a speech at a women’s conference held by her conservative Christian Democrats over the weekend, surprising and pleasing activists.

“We are thrilled that the chancellor has made such a clear statement,” said Sibylle Schreiber, a spokeswoman for the women’s rights group Terre des Femmes. “Finally she’s given a signal to the people that forcing your daughter into marriage is a crime.”

Approximately 3.3 million Muslims live in Germany, 70 percent of them of Turkish origin. Many lead secular lifestyles but some make strong, even extreme, efforts to preserve conservative values.

* Translation: “strong, even extreme, efforts to preserve conservative values” simply means they are hardcore Islamofascists who want us either dead, subjugated and eventually forcibly converted.

In recent years, several courts have upheld state-level bans on headscarves for Muslim women teaching in public schools. Immigration laws now require that foreign spouses be at least 18 years old and already have a basic knowledge of the German language.

The state of Baden-Wuerttemberg has proposed federal legislation criminalizing forced marriages. It passed twice, most recently in February, but has not been taken up by the lower house. Women’s activists were hopeful that Merkel’s push would accelerate the process.

Serap Cileli, a Turkish-German writer whose book — “We Are Your Daughters, Not Your Honor” — documents her escape from a forced marriage at age 24, welcomed Merkel’s initiative but said it was important to address the immigrant community directly.

“As long as we don’t teach the fathers, husbands and brothers to let the women live self-determined lives, this wound will never stop bleeding,” Cileli said.

Women’s groups and experts on immigration in Germany said it was difficult to tell how many women marry after threats or abuse, but enough flee such arrangements that several shelters remain busy.

Along with Baden-Wuerttemberg, the states of Lower Saxony, and Berlin have started shelters, hot lines and online counseling. North Rhine-Westphalia has made it mandatory for all high school students to learn that forced marriage is illegal in Germany.

The impetus behind pressure to marry is found in conservative families’ opposition to dating and premarital sex — considered affronts to family honor.

Such pressures are also behind so-called honor killings of women by family members, often brothers or husbands. The Federal Crime Office counted 55 such cases from 1996 to 2005.

A 20-year-old Turkish-German woman, whose her parents wanted her to wed a cousin she had met once, fled to Berlin, where she lives with a new identity out of fear her family might track her down.

“After they found out I had a boyfriend, they locked me up in my room and beat me up every day for a month,” said the woman, who now uses the name Rojin Dogan. “They wanted to sew the tear in my hymen and quickly marry me to my cousin — they wanted to make him believe that I am still a virgin.”

Dogan was rescued by “Hatun und Can” — a private organization named after the Turkish-German woman Hatun Surucu, who was shot and killed for her Western lifestyle in 2005. The group of 23 volunteers says it has helped 75 women since its founding in February.

Dogan contacted them online. A few days later they picked her up by car, brought her to Berlin and provided her with an apartment and a new job as a cashier.

In Britain, a forced marriage unit handles 5,000 complaints a year, with around 300 suspected cases investigated, ministers said, many among dual citizens with ties to Pakistan or India. British lawmakers decided in July not to create a specific law prohibiting forced marriages.

I quite agree.

Vlaams Belang is not an anti Semitic party neither a Nazi party. Dewinter’s own father was, as a medicine student, deported to Nazi Germany to perform forced labour. His grandfather was a member of the resistance. VB’s opinions concerning Israel, revisionism, anti Semitism, etc… are well known and have been published in a range of articles and interviews. They consider Israel a front post of the free West in Islam occupied territory. Dewinter has said Jews and Israeli are our allies in the battle against Islamisation. They stand in the front lines of the battle.

The diabolising of all who criticize and turn against multiculturalism and all who consider the Islamic immigration as a Trojan horse, is proven technique, that certainly in Europe, is successful.

I have read several times here the suggestion by some readers that Europeans are weak because the world wars, and immigration to the USA, finished off all the dynamic ones. In other words: European culture is weak because Europeans have “weak genes.” This argument would have been

against any other ethnic group on the planet and would have been denounced as racist immediately. It is considered acceptable for one, and only one reason, and that is because those being tarred with it are white Europeans.

Anger as sex attacker stays in UK

A victim of a serial sex attacker is “appalled” that he will not be deported in order to protect his human rights.

An Asylum and Immigration Tribunal upheld a ruling which blocked moves by the Home Office to deport the man, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Mr Justice Hodge said the 20-year-old should stay in the UK as he came here from Sierra Leone, aged six, and had virtually no family in West Africa.

Victim Gabrielle Browne, 42, said he had no right to stay in the country.

Family life

Ms Browne, who waived her right to anonymity as the victim of a sex attack, said she felt “devastated and let down”.

“I am appalled by the decision,” she said.

“How is it right that somebody who has offended so seriously against defenceless women is allowed to remain in this country?”

Her attacker had admitted indecently assaulting 11 women in the past five years.

He is being allowed to stay in the UK after his release under article eight of the Human Rights Act, which gives a person a right to a family life.

Ms Browne, a mother of two, was training for the London Marathon when she was attacked.

“He was hiding behind a blind corner on the canal path and could see me coming although I could not see him.

“He stepped out and blocked my way then asked me for the time.

“He threw an arm around my throat and dragged me 100 metres.”

A Home Office spokesman said: “We believe that foreign nationals who commit serious crimes should be deported.

“We are disappointed that the courts reached this decision on 1 March 2007, and as a result deportation could not proceed in this case.”

Australia: Charges brought against brothers for rapes

THREE brothers known as the K Brothers have had charges brought against them for a number of rapes, one of which was allegedly committed in March 2002, in the midst of a gang rape rampage in Sydney.

On July 31 police laid charges against one of the brothers, known as MRK, and two of his siblings.

Yesterday the Herald succeeded in having non-publication orders lifted in relation to the charges.

It is alleged that MRK, 22, MMK, 21, and MSK, 29, raped a 13-year-old girl in late 2000 or early 2001 after plying her with alcohol so she could not move or speak.

The girl, who was in a sexual relationship with another of the brothers, MTK, who has since died, was visiting the Redfern house shared by the eight brothers, according to police documents tendered in court yesterday.

She suggested they buy some alcohol and the girl, a friend and some of the brothers started drinking, police allege.

She was starting to feel tipsy after five vodka and Cokes when she was served a sixth one, which “tasted very strong”. She became light-headed and sluggish and started losing control of her body, she told police.

She crawled on her hands and knees to an upstairs bedroom and felt she lost the ability to speak and had blurred vision with “bright flashing blotches” in front of her eyes.

The next morning she awoke and her pants and underwear had been taken off. Her boyfriend, MTK, told her they had had sex.

But she told police she later remembered that she had woken up during the night and seen MSK raping her, but could not push him off because she felt paralysed and had no control over her body.

She alleges MRK and MMK then also raped her.

She told police MSK had previously exposed himself to her and had an uncircumcised penis, which, police say, is unusual for a Muslim.

Yesterday MSK agreed to let police photograph his genitals so that they could corroborate the woman’s complaint.

In the second alleged incident, MRK allegedly repeatedly raped and indecently assaulted a 15-year-old girl in Ashfield in March 2002.

It is alleged he sexually assaulted her three times.

The cases are back in court in December.

Pakistan: Memorizing the Qur’an, but not learning multiplication or even how to write

Like many younger pupils at Karachi’s Jamia Binoria madrassa, 12-year-old Imran Mohammed is a shy, quietly spoken child who is all but tongue-tied in front of his elders. One thing can get him talking though – for hours if need be.

“God is one and he is our creator,” he intones, his faltering voice suddenly breaking into fluent Arabic. “He has not given birth of anyone, nor did anyone give birth of him.”

It is a verse from the Koran, a tiny part of four entire chapters he has learnt by heart since arriving at the madrassa, or religious school, two years ago. Four chapters is roughly 60 pages, and to recite it fully – as he can do – takes up to two hours.
However, when it comes to non-religious learning, such as the alphabet or multiplication tables, Mohammed is somewhat behind for his age. Asked to add 10 and 11 together, he uses his fingers to reach the right answer, and the only words he can write are his own name and his father’s.

For much of the past two decades, though, this has been what passes as education for hundreds of thousands of young Pakistanis. With secular, state schools all but non existent in much of the country – six million children never see a classroom – growing numbers of parents “opt out” their children for religious education instead.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Malaysia’s Muslim men are suffering sleepless nights and cannot pray properly because their thoughts are distracted by a growing number of women who wear sexy clothes in public, a prominent cleric said.

Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, the spiritual leader of the opposition Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, said he wanted to speak about the “emotional abuse” that men face because it is seldom discussed, the party reported on its Web site Wednesday.

“We always [hear about] the abuse of children and wives in households, which is easily perceived by the eye, but the emotional abuse of men cannot be seen,” Nik Abdul Aziz said. “Our prayers become unfocused and our sleep is often disturbed.”

Nik Abdul Aziz has made controversial comments about women in the past, including that women should stop wearing lipstick and perfume to lower the risk of being raped. Women’s groups have slammed his statements, saying Islam teaches both men and women to be responsible for modesty. They say comments like these encourage rapes because it puts the onus on women.

Nik Abdul Aziz’s fundamentalist party has about 800,000 members. He is also the chief minister of northeastern Kelantan, the only one of Malaysia’s 13 states that is not ruled by the moderate National Front governing coalition.

His party’s Web site published an illustration Wednesday of how women should dress — in long, flowing headscarves covering their hair and chests and “baggy and loose” long-sleeved, floor-length dresses.

Most women from Malaysia’s Malay Muslim majority wear a modest form of Islamic clothing, though younger women in cities sometimes wear body-hugging dresses or tight T-shirts and jeans.

In Kelantan, the Islamic party has fined Muslim women for not wearing headscarves in workplaces and implemented separate check-out lines for men and women in supermarkets.

Almost every day, Muslims, acting in the name of Islam, blow up cars, buses, restaurants, etc. The leaders of Islam do not speak out to say that such Muslims do not go to paradise.

Yet it is not uncommon to see statements such as this, which appeared recently in the LA Times:

[Kody “Monster”] Scott had seemingly turned himself around, converting to Islam and telling people he was rejecting his violent ways.

Given that public places are blown up almost daily in the name of Islam, with the undeniable implicit sanction of global Islamic leaders, how is it possible for an organization such as the LA Times to make a statement like “Scott had seemingly turned himself around, converting to Islam…”?

Or, in the words of Bill Warner, the director of the Center for the Study of Political Islam (CSPI):

What accounts for the almost psychotic aversion to knowledge about Islam?

Warner provides an insightful explanation. He finds that the thought pattern taught by Islam is so antithetical to that taught by non-Islamic cultures, that non-Muslims have difficulty even beginning to consider it. He finds that Islam rejects the following things, which are inherent to non-Islamic thought.

Logic:

...the Koran […] is actually two books, the Koran of Mecca (early) and the Koran of Medina (later). The insight into the logic of the Koran comes from the large numbers of contradictions in it. On the surface, Islam resolves these contradictions by resorting to “abrogation”. This means that the verse written later supersedes the earlier verse. But in fact, since the Koran is considered by Muslims to be the perfect word of Allah, both verses are sacred and true. The later verse is “better,” but the earlier verse cannot be wrong since Allah is perfect. This is the foundation of dualism. Both verses are “right.” Both sides of the contradiction are true in dualistic logic. The circumstances govern which verse is used.

For example:

(Koran of Mecca) 73:10: Listen to what they [unbelievers] say with patience, and leave them with dignity.

From tolerance we move to the ultimate intolerance, not even the Lord of the Universe can stand the unbelievers:

(Koran of Medina) 8:12: Then your Lord spoke to His angels and said, “I will be with you. Give strength to the believers. I will send terror into the unbelievers’ hearts, cut off their heads and even the tips of their fingers!”

All of Western logic is based upon the law of contradiction-if two things contradict, then at least one of them is false. But Islamic logic is dualistic; two things can contradict each other and both are true.

…To reiterate, all of science is based upon the law of contradiction. If two things contradict each other, then at least one of them has to be false. But inside of Islamic logic, two contradictory statements can both be true. Islam uses dualistic logic and we use unitary scientific logic.

The Shared Humanity of Man:

Let’s examine the ethical basis of our civilization. All of our politics and ethics are based upon a unitary ethic that is best formulated in the Golden Rule:

Treat others as you would be treated.

The basis of this rule is the recognition that at one level, we are all the same. We are not all equal. Any game of sports will show that we do not have equal abilities. But everyone wants to be treated as a human being. In particular, we all want to be equal under the law and be treated as social equals. On the basis of the Golden Rule-the equality of human beings-we have created democracy, ended slavery and treat women and men as political equals. So the Golden Rule is a unitary ethic. All people are to be treated the same. All religions have some version of the Golden Rule except Islam.

FrontPage: So how is Islam different in this context?

Warner: The term “human being” has no meaning inside of Islam. There is no such thing as humanity, only the duality of the believer and unbeliever. Look at the ethical statements found in the Hadith. A Muslim should not lie, cheat, kill or steal from other Muslims. But a Muslim may lie, deceive or kill an unbeliever if it advances Islam.

Ethics:

There is no such thing as a universal statement of ethics in Islam. Muslims are to be treated one way and unbelievers another way. The closest Islam comes to a universal statement of ethics is that the entire world must submit to Islam. After Mohammed became a prophet, he never treated an unbeliever the same as a Muslim. Islam denies the truth of the Golden Rule.


By the way, this dualistic ethic is the basis for jihad. The ethical system sets up the unbeliever as less than human and therefore, it is easy to kill, harm or deceive the unbeliever.

Now mind you, unbelievers have frequently failed at applying the Golden Rule, but we can be judged and condemned on its basis. We do fall short, but it is our ideal.

There have been other dualistic cultures. The KKK comes to mind. But the KKK is a simplistic dualism. The KKK member hates all black people at all times; there is only one choice. This is very straightforward and easy to see.

The dualism of Islam is more deceitful and offers two choices on how to treat the unbeliever. The unbeliever can be treated nicely, in the same way a farmer treats his cattle well. So Islam can be “nice”, but in no case is the unbeliever a “brother” or a friend. In fact, there are some 14 verses of the Koran that are emphatic-a Muslim is never a friend to the unbeliever. A Muslim may be “friendly,” but he is never an actual friend. And the degree to which a Muslim is actually a true friend is the degree to which he is not a Muslim, but a hypocrite.

Westerners believe that all major religions are about finding happiness.

They find it almost incomprehensible that there may be a widely-followed religion that is a rejection of that – that is about rejecting happiness on earth – that tells you that the only way to achieve heaven is to attack those who do not share your religion — to attack them in every way, including through physical violence. And indeed, it is almost incomprehensible to us that there could be a religion that teaches its followers to act so brutally against their own earthly happiness. But many who practice Islam describe it as being precisely that, and practice it in exactly that way.

Westerners must look at Islam and find out what it is, not what we wish it was.
