About 4,000 migrants to Italy have been rescued in the Mediterranean Sea in the past 48 hours, Italian Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said.
ROME, April 9 (UPI) –Â Italian authorities have rescued 4,000 migrants in the Mediterranean Sea in the past 48 hours, Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said Wednesday after he met with police and military officers participating in search-and-rescue operations.
“There is no stop to the arrivals, and the emergency is increasingly serious,” he told Italian radio.

A bomb exploded at a vegetable market on the outskirts of the Pakistani capital on Wednesday, killing 20 people and injuring about 70, police and hospital officials said.

The Daily Telegraph published an article on Sunday which accused Dr Imran Waheed, a former senior member of Hizb ut-Tahrir, of being an “extremist” who is unfit to work for the NHS.
The article which was entitled “‘Extremist’ working as psychiatrist for NHS”claimed the former chief media adviser of HT had “extremist” hard-line views pertaining to Shariah law and the caliphate.

A Brandeis University student activist has accused the institution of “hypocrisy” after cancelling its decision to grant an honorary degree to Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a campaigner for women’s rights and a fierce critic of Islam.
Explaining its actions, the university released a statement saying that “certain of her past statements are inconsistent with Brandeis University’s core values.”

“Bendigo’s Sacred Heart Cathedral Monsignor Frank Marriott has called for greater tolerance and harmony among religious groups, following the announcement of a proposed mosque in Bendigo.
‘Monsignor Frank Marriott said the challenge facing Bendigo is to bring Christian, Buddhist, Islamic and other traditions together, possibly by developing an interfaith council.
“I welcome the proposal and the ability for them to worship, but I ask the Islamic community to extend the same hospitality”, he said.
“There are places where we [Christians] are not free to worship and if we are giving them the freedom to worship, we are entitled to expect the same freedom”.
