Andrew Gilligan spiked this article with a lot of PC trash and unnecessary attacks on the EDL, but if you manage to read yourself through the manure there is still plenty of substance worth knowing.

The self-appointed opponents of bigotry can be as ugly as the “racist groups” they oppose.

Andrew Gilligan must have had a bit too much of the PC koolaid. The EDL are no ‘bigots’ and Islam is not a race.

Since the murder of Drummer Lee Rigby last month, there have reportedly been at least 107 arrests during BNP, EDL and UAF demonstrations. At least 69 of those arrested, just under two thirds, were anti-fascist demonstrators, at least 58 of them UAF.

UAF, 10 years old this year, is one of Britain’s most prominent anti-fascist organisations. It has received hundreds of thousands of pounds from the biggest trade unions, and support from dozens of mainstream politicians. Weyman Bennett is UAF’s secretary.

One reason why UAF will not campaign against Islamist extremists is that one of its own vice-chairmen, Azad Ali, is one.

NYPD Sergeant Convicted of Misusing Terror Database Now “Integrity” Officer in Brooklyn Precinct

Five years ago, NYPD Sergeant Haytham Khalil was indicted for illegally accessing the FBI criminal records and terrorism database on behalf of a friend in a child custody dispute. He pleaded guilty in 2009.

Today, Khalil not only is still with the police department, despite his conviction, but he is an integrity control officer in a Brooklyn precinct.

In sum, an officer convicted of abusing his position to access confidential information for a private purpose is now monitoring whether other officers are following the rules. (BCF)

Three men and a police officer have been stabbed at a mosque in Birmingham, British police say.

The male police constable was responding to reports that three men had been stabbed inside the mosque in the Ward End area of the city when he was attacked.

The four men are being treated in hospital for their wounds and are described as “stable”.

Mohammed Shafiq, leader of the UK Muslim organisation the Ramadhan Foundation, said  “People, anti-Muslim extremists, are going to try to take advantage of this – it’s very serious…”

The Muslim Council of Britain on 5 June expressed its shock at the reported firebomb attack of a North London mosque in the early hours of this morning. Fire crews are said to have seen the words ‘EDL’ scrawled on the side of the building.

Farooq Murad, Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain said, “This is the latest in a series of attacks on Muslim institutions since the horrific murder of Drummer Lee Rigby. The British Muslim community came out in droves to condemn this murder, and it is despicable that Muslims should be held to account and suffer in this way.”

He added: “It is time for serious action against such crimes. We had fine and decisive words from our leaders condemning the actions of the English Defence League, now we need a proper response from our police authorities, starting with a national police response to this issue. Admirably, local police forces and borough commanders have been liaising with communities. Now we need to hear from the Metropolitan Police Commissioner and the leaders of Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) as to what they will be doing to protect this rise in attacks.”
