German culture does not exist and the nation’s history has been shaped by “immigration and diversity”, according to Federal Integration Commissioner Aydan Özoğuz, who has argued migrants should not be expected to assimilate.
Chancellor Angela Merkel, who chaired the event, described it as “encouraging and exciting”.
Writing in Tagesspiegel, the Commissioner denounced the debate over Leitkultur (meaning ‘dominant’ or ‘guiding culture’) — in which conservative politicians have suggested migrants should assimilate to a shared set of cultural values — as “ridiculous and absurd”.

Dozens of Iraqi Christian families filed a lawsuit against the head of the Iraq’s Shia Waqf (Iraqi Shia Endowment Fund), Sheikh Alaa al-Moussawi, on charges of incitement against Christians.
Al-Moussawi, who is in charge of the body which maintains all of the Shia holy sites, including mosques, Huseiniyas and schools, sparked anger as he declared Christians to be “infidels” during a speech in southern Iraq, according to local media.
Al-Moussawi, described the Christians as “infidels and polytheists” and stressed the need for “jihad” against them.
Many have accused him of imitating the rhetoric of Islamic State (IS) militants by stating Iraqi Christians must either convert to Shia Islam, pay a religious tax known as a jizya tax, or be killed.
An Iraqi judicial source told The New Arab that 180 Christian families filed a lawsuit under grounds that he is “instigating incitement against Christians and disturbing the religious plurality of Iraq”.
Al-Moussawi has responded by sending a delegation from the Waqf to the Babylonian Christian Movement to mediate the lawsuit and the allegations that his comments have mirrored IS rhetoric.

The Swedish government would probably insist that we are both neo-Nazis or some such, but would be abjectly incapable of backing up its smears with any actual evidence. A Sydney council has been criticised by angry locals for erecting a curtain for a ladies-only swimming session to encourage Muslim women to use the pool.
The council-run Auburn Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre in the city’s west has installed the retractable curtain around one of its three pools so women can swim privately during two set time slots on Wednesdays.
The organiser of the swim group, Yusra Metwally, said the idea behind the sessions is to ‘accommodate people who wouldn’t otherwise swim at a beach, or swim in a swimming pool because they don’t feel comfortable’.
Locals have slammed the idea as ‘segregation,’ saying the women are receiving ‘special treatment’.

‘These communities should be encouraged to integrate and uphold the values of equality and respect not division and segregation paid for by taxes and council rates,’ one woman wrote.

A survivor of a Muslim grooming gang in Rotherham said she reported being raped when she was 13 years old, but authorities did nothing and told her not to mention the ethnicity of the attackers.
The rape survivor, Emma, told Katie Hopkins on LBC radio on Sunday: “I actually reported my abuse 14 years ago. I went to the authorities, my parents did. I sat and gave video interviews with the police, I was willing to work with them.
“But as soon as I said the names, I was made to feel as though I was racist and I was the one who had the problem.”
“I was specifically told not to comment on the ethnicity of the perpetrators,” Emma said, adding she was told “numerous times” by police and social workers not to mention race.

At first glance, it appears as though President Trump’s campaign signs have popped up on billboards around Las Vegas. But upon closer inspection, the “Make America Great Again” message has been co-opted by a local mosque to push Islam.
The signs that appear in several locations near the Vegas strip read, “Making America great with love, compassion, and mercy.” Then there is a telephone number and website to reach “Why Islam.” The billboards were paid for by Masjid As Sabur, the first Muslim community organization for the Las Vegas area created back in the early 1970s. The mosque has hosted the likes of Muhammad Ali, his daughter Laila, and Mike Tyson.
Also sponsoring the messages, according to 8 News Now, is the Al-Maun Neighborly Needs of Las Vegas.
In a press release, Imam Fateen Seifullah stated, “Helping to meet our neighbors’ needs through service is a core principle of Islam. Everyone can help to make America great by working together to solve problems and by showing compassionate concerns for all Americans.”…
SIX Iranian boat people were caught holidaying in their homeland after lying on their visa applications about fearing for their lives if they had to return there.
But Administrative Appeals Tribunal bureaucrats have foiled Immigration Minister Peter Dutton’s attempts to deport the Iranians, allowing them to stay here regardless. Documents seen by the Herald Sun reveal in each case, the Iranians, who paid people smugglers to get to Australia, were given protection visas after claiming their lives would be in danger if they returned to Iran.
The visas were cancelled by Mr Dutton, or his delegate, after the Immigration Department discovered they voluntarily returned to Iran and later came back to Australia.
Documents reveal:
ONE made three return trips to Iran after getting his Australian visa, including one to get married under Islamic law, an event conducted by the Iranian authorities he was supposedly terrified of; …
A COUPLE who arrived by boat claimed to have no identification documents and they would be killed if they returned to Iran, but later voluntarily travelled to Iran and back to Australia on valid Iranian passports; and
TWO Iranian family members claimed to be stateless with no identity documents — a lie discovered when another family member applied to join them in Australia and provided documents to show all were Iranian citizens who were in no danger of being persecuted in Iran…
The revelations will put further pressure on the AAT, already under fire for overturning thousands of visa decisions made by Mr Dutton or his delegate in the past year.
Wonder how many of those delegates were appointed by Labor.
