Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson says that in order to keep ISIS from radicalizing Americans inside the United States, it is “critical” not to use the word “Islamic” when describing attacks or other actions tied to the terrorist group.

“[ISIS] would like to be referred to as ‘Islamic extremism’ because it therefore concedes that what they are saying and what they are doing occupies legitimately some form of Islam,” Johnson said today at a national security forum in Aspen, Colorado.

“The Muslims I know and that I’ve spent a lot of time with in this country believe just the opposite,” he added.  (ABC News)

Camoron is part of the problem:

UK Prime Minister Cameron’s speech had a lot of the expected politically correct cop-outs in it; the constant use of “extremism”, the apologetics for Islam and the Muslims are the biggest victims of ISIS stuff. At the same time, he referenced (briefly) the sex grooming scandal, Tower Hamlets and shot down CAGE. And he did what few Western leaders have done, put the onus on Muslims.

It’s a deeply flawed speech and yet there are truths here that few Republican candidates would dare to speak. For all his Muslim apologetics, Cameron rejects blowback and puts the burden of responsibility on Muslims for joining ISIS, not on the West for “making them do it.” And he discusses, honestly, why they do it. This is not the stuff you tend to see Western leaders saying.

Nobody should be arrested for putting “offensive posters” on a mosque

A man has been ordered to face court after allegedly putting up offensive posters on an Islamic prayer room on the Sunshine Coast.

Police said the 64-year-old Yaroomba man put up two A4 sheets with “offensive remarks” on the building in Church Street, Maroochydore about 1.45pm Tuesday.

He was issued with a notice to appear for trespass and will face Maroochydore Magistrates Court on August 26.

And the reach of the Islamic States extends now into Turkey:

A suspected female Islamic State suicide bomber has set off an explosion near a cultural centre hosting youth activists in a Turkish town near the border with Syria, leaving 31 dead and scores injured. 

The blast ripped through the centre in Suruc, just a few miles from the Syrian flashpoint of Kobane – which was itself later hit in a co-ordinated suicide car bombing.

At least 28 people killed as ISIS suicide bomber blows himself up at a cultural centre in southern Turkey

• Massive blast hit the city of Suruc, close to Turkey’s border with Syria
• Suruc is near to Kobane, where Syrian Kurdish forces are still battling ISIS
• Officials believe today’s explosion was caused by an ISIS suicide bomber
• Blast comes after Turkey made its first serious efforts to combat terrorists 

At least 28 people have been killed in a suicide bombing at a cultural centre in the Turkish town of Suruc, close to the border with Syria.

The blast in the town – which lies opposite the Syrian flashpoint of Kobane – was described as a ‘terrorist attack’ by the interior ministry, who stopped short of declaring it the work of ISIS militants.

But Turkish officials speaking anonymously said an initial investigation suggests the terror group are behind the atrocity, which comes just days after Turkey made its first serious efforts to combat ISIS with a round of arrests of militants and their supporters in the country.

Several Turkish media reported fatalities and private television station NTV said scores had been killed and about 100 wounded.

Witnesses said fire broke out after the strong explosion which smashed the windows of the building.
