Halal labelling withdrawn in Sri Lanka

From 2013: Islamic clerics announced the withdrawal of a halal labelling system for food in Sri Lanka on Monday “in the interests of peace” after protests from Buddhist groups.

The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU), Sri Lanka’s main body of Islamic clergy, said the halal certificate issued by them would be used only for products that are exported to Islamic countries.

“We are giving up what is important to us. We are making a sacrifice in the interest of peace and harmony,” ACJU president Mufti Rizwe said, adding that they were keen to avoid any escalation of religious tensions.

Food manufacturers in Sri Lanka have long made all their products using halal methods and labelled them with the ACJU halal certificate.

They argued it is impractical and uneconomical to have two manufacturing processes for the same product.

The halal method of killing an animal requires its throat to be slit and the blood to be drained.

It is not necessary to deflect to slaughter. It is the imposition of a halal tax on all food that needs to be stopped.

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce said that manufacturers agreed to drop the halal logo from all food with immediate effect.

Nationalist Buddhist monks and their supporters had launched a campaign last month to boycott halal-slaughtered meat, as well as other products that carry a halal certificate.

The monks argue that Buddhists should not be forced to consume food that is prepared according to Islamic rites, saying it demonstrates the undue influence of Muslims in Sri Lanka.

President Mahinda Rajapakse, who is a Buddhist, had urged monks not to incite religious hatred.

Sri Lanka is 70 per cent Buddhist, while Muslims comprise less than 10 percent of the population of 20 million.

A diverse range of organisations including multicultural youth services, Islamic mosques, and community sporting groups will be paid by directly by Canberra to turn would-be jihadists away from hatred and violence and back towards integration with their communities.

The organisations will use their share of an expanded $1.6 million program to provide early intervention, counselling, health, and employment support services aimed at stopping wayward youths from becoming alienated and succumbing to dangerous radicalisation at the hands of criminal ideologues.

The move reveals the government’s assessment that the real frontline in the war against the insidious threat of lone-wolf, religiously motivated terrorism is a home-grown one.

“Home-grown” is annoying rubbish. Islam is an imported problem. We must weed it out, not allow it to grow.

Poisoning the Free Speech Well

Political correctness and intellectual prejudice have poisoned the principle of free speech. Six writers, among the more than 60 other scheduled hosts, withdrew from the ceremony of the PEN American Center on May 5, 2015 at which the Freedom of Expression Courage award is to be given to the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

Among those expected to be present at the ceremony to accept the award are two members of the magazine, the current editor in chief and a writer who arrived late at the office on January 7, 2015 and therefore escaped being killed during the massacre of twelve colleagues of his colleagues by Islamist terrorists.

“It was horrible. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life,” says Mariam, one of tens of thousands of African migrants who has sought asylum in Israel. “Those people are not human beings – it’s pure terrorism to commit and film atrocities like that.”

Mariam’s cousin, 30-year-old Tesfay Kidane, was among a group of at least 28 African Christians killed in the graphic video released on April 19 by the Islamic State group in Libya.

Jew haters rule the university of Sydney

Prominent Muslim scholar Youssef al-Qaradawi has declared support for Turkey against “vicious claims” related to the events of 1915.

“There is an increasingly vicious campaign by some countries to pressure Turkey to take responsibility for the alleged Armenian genocide in 1915,” al-Qaradawi, the Qatar-based chief of the International Union for Muslim Scholars, said in a statement on Monday.

“Attempts to distort history by exaggerating the number of Armenians killed in the 1915 incidents while downplaying the Ottoman fatalities will not bring Turkey’s supporters to succumb to these campaigns,” he said.

“History has not forgotten the victims of the Crusades, in which European armies committed the most brutal killings in Jerusalem and the Levant.”

The 1915 events took place during World War I when a portion of the Armenian population living in the Ottoman Empire took sides with the invading Russians and staged revolts.

The Turks used that as an excuse for a jihad to wipe out 1.5 million Armenians, which is well documented, although they deny it.

The relocation by the Ottomans of Armenians in eastern Anatolia following the revolts resulted in numerous casualties.

Turkey does not dispute that there were casualties on both sides, but rejects the definition of “genocide.”
