‘Peace process won’t stop anti-Israel activity at the UN”

Business as usual. If there’s nothing to be gained, why bother?  (Israel Matzav)

Defense Minister Ehud Barak ordered the IDF to flee from Lebanon, offered Yasser Arafat a far too generous deal that was rejected, did not respond forcefully to the subsequent Oslo War, and appears to have learned nothing from the experience.

Because she asked the mullah’s to stop stoning women:

State-run Iranian paper calls French first lady Carla Bruni a “prostitute,” then calls for her death

Bruni-Sarkozy, the wife of France’s President Nicolas Sarkozy, made a public statement in support of an Iranian woman who has been sentenced to be stoned to death.

She and other French personalities signed a petition calling for Tehran to release 43-year-old mother-of-two Sakineh Mohammadi-Ashtiani, whom an Iranian court has convicted of adultery and complicity in her husband’s murder…

Bruni-Sarkozy’s intervention … caused the biggest stir in Tehran, with the conservative Iranian press lashing out at the 41-year-old supermodel-turned-singer’s formerly colourful private life.

“Reviewing Carla Bruni’s record clearly shows why this immoral woman has supported an Iranian woman who has committed adultery, has contributed to the murdering of her husband and has been sentenced to death,” Kayhan newspaper wrote.

“In fact, she herself deserves death,” the paper added, labelling the French first lady an “Italian prostitute”.

The question in response to these insults and threats ought to be, “So, that’s how you keep uppity women in line in the Islamic Republic?” “Iranian insults against Bruni ‘unacceptable’ – France,” from BBC News,

*  Letters from the Imam

Feisel Abdul Rauf on Israel and Iran.

Wall Street Journal

It isn’t often that a 1,400-year-old treaty and letters from the 1970s tell us something about current events. But since Imam Feisel Abdul Rauf, the force behind the so-called Ground Zero Mosque, has staked a political claim as a “moderate Muslim,” it’s worth taking note of some of his past writings.

Ann Coulter in Canada: day four

Here’s Kathy Shaidle…..Updates all day, stay tuned.

Update:

Sadly and inexplicably, Fox News chose radical lesbian activist Susan G. Cole to represent Canada on one segment on the Coulter-In-Canada controversy. Here’s how Cole (who, as a playwright, has sucked on the taxpayer teat for most of her career) characterized my country:

We don’t have that same political culture here in (Canada). . . . We don’t have a 1st Amendment, we don’t have a religion of free speech. . . . Students sign off on all kinds of agreements as to how they’ll behave on campus, in order to respect diversity, equity, all of the values that Canadians really care about. Those are the things that drive our political culture. Not freedoms, not rugged individualism, not free speech.

It isn’t that Cole’s characterization is inaccurate. It really is word perfect, actually. More>>

Mark Steyn:

I’m with the ‘intolerant’ Quebecers: The niqab deserves no more respect than a Vader mask

I dislike Islamic body bags and regard them as a form of degradation and an act of self-segregation. I say “Islamic,” but in fact as a mandatory expression of piousness they barely date back to the disco era. The niqab should command no more cultural respect than a guy walking into class in Darth Vader’s getup and demanding the women be removed from his line of vision.  McLeans

Bigger venue, more security for Ann Coulter speech in Calgary

OH, CANADA!

Leftist brain farts:

“You’re just giving her a space for saying all this stuff she’s saying that’s inappropriate,” Richardson said. “They’re giving her a space to thrive on her controversy. I don’t know if she deserves that space.”

Other students said it would be inappropriate to kibosh Coulter’s talk.

“Just because people don’t agree with what is said doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be said,” noted computer engineering student Devin Smith, 21. “It encourages debate, which is good.”

Chemical engineering student Isra Hammad, 22, said as a Muslim, she finds Coulter offensive. But that doesn’t mean she should be gagged.”She should be allowed to say what she wants, then people can protest it,” Hammad said.

“If you prevent her from speaking, you only make her the victim.” -Read more: montrealgazette

Ezra Levant’s diagnose on the Canadian malaise:

Canada has a free speech problem. It’s strange that it took a visit from an American to see that. But now that we’ve seen it, who will fix it?

The real threat to civil discourse

The University of Ottawa disgraced itself on Tuesday night with its treatment of Ann Coulter, the U.S. conservative pundit. In a spectacle that earned international attention, hundreds of shouting protesters stopped Coulter’s speech from proceeding through pure physical intimidation.

Other News:

The protesters had bigger plans than mere heckling. Just look at their venomous Facebook page dedicated to disrupting the event: Vanessa Alexandra Peterson wrote “I wonder what the security would be like. I want to throw rotten veggies and eggs at her evil Barbie mask.” Saif Latif wrote “somebody needs to throw a pie at her during her speech like they did at the University of Arizona,” to which Guillaume Pelegrin replied “I hope someone will get arrested.” More than 500 people on that group whipped each other up into a hateful frenzy, publicly spelling out their fantasies.

It was not anti-Coulter hate that shut down her speech at U of O. Hate is a human emotion, not an action. Nor was it mere hateful words. Words can be noisy, but they can only hurt feelings. Rather, it was the assessment of police, campus security and Coulter’s own bodyguard that there was too much physical danger to Coulter and the audience to proceed. As Ottawa Police Sgt. Dan Beauchamp said, “it’s a public safety issue.”
