An Indonesian Islamic cleric linked to the three extremists awaiting execution for the Bali bombings, says the 2002 attack which killed more than 200 people, was the work of America’s Central Intelligence Agency.

Abu Bakar Bashir says the CIA fired a nuclear missile at the Bali tourist strip from a ship off the coast.

Speaking at his house at the Al-Mukmin Islamic boarding school on Indonesia’s Java island, he said the attack was a conspiracy between “America, Australia and the Jews”.

He said the three convicted bombers – Amrozi, Imam Samudra and Ali Ghufron – had been framed.

His comments come amid speculation the government is preparing to execute the three bombers by firing squad next week, in line with their 2003 convictions.

Iraq: Woman told Mahdi would return faster if she gang bangs with Shia cult leaders

Shiite cults seek to wreak havoc in Iraq

Iraqi Shias: “Come, let us sleep with your wife, daughter, and sister, so the Mahdi may return”

Mahdi-Alert. Apparently some Shia groups in Iraq are operating under a doctrine that maintains if people engage in debauched behavior — sowing corruption in the earth — that would only speed up the return of the Mahdi. As with taqiyya, yet another example of how in Islam, the end often justifies the means, as in this hadith about niyya, or “intention”: “Actions are what they are by virtue of intent.” Timothy Furnish (author of Holiest Wars, which examines Mahdism) discusses this story here.

Detainees believed to be members of the Heaven’s Army cult sit blindfolded in early 2007 after a battle with American and Iraqi forces near the Shiite holy city of Najaf.
A few fringe groups seek to sow chaos, convinced it will hasten the arrival of the Mahdi, the Shiites’ 12th imam who they believe will bring peace.
BAGHDAD — Falling into a depression after her husband was killed last year, Iman immersed herself in religious studies and became fixated on a Shiite Muslim saint. Soon, a secretive group of worshipers tried to recruit the young widow, telling her that she could help bring the holy figureback to Earth. All she had to do was sleep with the group’s male followers.
Horrified, Iman, now 20, refused.

Iraqi polit-stooges go apeshit over suicide bomber cartoon

BAGHDAD (AP) — An Iraqi magazine cartoon depicting a female suicide bomber in a pose like the Statue of Liberty, arm raised with a lit bomb fuse instead of a torch in her hand, has angered lawmakers who voted to sue the publication for allegedly damaging the image of Muslim women.

*  Great: but why doesn’t the main-stream-media doesn’t show us the cartoon?

The editors of al-Isbouiyah, or Weekly, say the cartoon is meant to condemn al-Qaida in Iraq and should be protected under freedom of expression laws enshrined in the Iraqi Constitution.

Iraqi lawmaker pays heavy price for visiting Israel

Iraqi’s warmth to Israel exacts a heavy price

First his two sons were murdered. Now he faces prosecution. The reason for Mithal al-Alusi’s troubles? Visiting Israel and advocating peace with the Jewish state — something Iraq’s leaders refuse to consider.

* Newslink: 13 hurt by vehicle attack in Israel; driver killed

The Iraqi is at the center of a political storm after his fellow lawmakers voted overwhelmingly to strip him of his immunity and allow his prosecution for visiting Israel — a crime punishable by death under a 1950s-era law. Such a fate is unlikely for al-Alusi, though he may lose his party’s sole seat in parliament.

Because he had visited Israel, many Iraqis assume the maverick legislator was the real target of the assassins who killed his sons in 2005 while he escaped unharmed.

Now he is in trouble for again visiting Israel and attending a conference a week ago at the International Institute for Counterterrorism.

Iraq: whole lotta bombing going on!

Bombs kill at least 35, Iraqis say

A U.S. soldier walks past damage made by two car bombs in a central commercial district of Karrada in Baghdad, Iraq, Monday, Sept. 15. 2008. Police and hospital officials have said the death toll in a double car bombing in Baghdad is at least 12 killed and 36 wounded and dozens of cars were burned or damaged

A suicide bomber blew herself up Monday among police officers who were celebrating the release of a comrade from U.S. custody, killing at least 22 people, Iraqi officials said. Separate bombings in Iraq killed 13 other people.

The suicide attack happened in Diyala, a province northeast of Baghdad where Sunni insurgents have carried out persistent attacks despite security gains elsewhere in the country. The female bomber targeted the home of a police commissioner who had been detained by American troops for allegedly cooperating with the Mahdi Army, a Shiite militia.
