It’s notable that even though the culturally enriched assailant shouted “Allahu akhbar!” while attacking his victim, the police are certain that there was no religious motive for the crime. Perhaps they have availed themselves of the latest EU surveillance equipment, which not only scans retinas and recognizes faces, but also reads people’s minds:

A female Ohio State student was trying to catch a bus to class Tuesday afternoon when she became the victim of a random stabbing.

Police say the 20-year-old student was walking down Stinchcomb Drive near Buckeye Village at 12:55 p.m. when she was stabbed by 34-year-old Wael W. Kalash. Witnesses said Kalash had been walking up and down the street exhibiting “bizarre” behavior before the stabbing occurred.

“There’s no connection between the victim and him other than she was at the wrong place at the wrong time, it was a completely random act,” said Det. Jay Fulton of the Columbus Division of Police homicide unit.

Is it really remotely “anti-foreigner” to point out that a man guilty of stabbing a young woman he didn’t know used to yell “F*** YOU AMERICAN SL*T” at other college girls?

UPDATE: Patrick Poole tells me that the mosque to which Kalash fled was the same one that has been connected to several jihad attacks, and which may also be linked to the recent Arkansas jihad murder. It has also hosted jihadist speakers.

According to the Belga news agency, the man spoke a foreign language, but it’s unclear which.  According to one victim he spoke Arabic, but others think it was Polish (HLN, NL).  Given the description below, it looks like a Muslim religiously motivated attack.

PARIS — France’s interior ministry says masked thieves who attacked a young man east of Paris to steal his car repeatedly stabbed him after noticing he was wearing a Jewish symbol.

Interior Minister Michele Alliot-Marie has condemned the “revolting attack” in the suburban town of Fontenay-sous-Bois and says authorities are working to find the perpetrators.   

The ministry said in a statement Friday that the attackers shouted anti-Semitic threats at the man as they stabbed him four times with a knife in the Thursday evening attack. It did not provide details on the man’s condition.

Alliot-Marie has said France has experienced a clear increase in anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim attacks since Israel began an assault against Hamas in Gaza on Dec. 27. – AP

                     

Dutch police arrest 5 at anti-Israel protest

“Hamas! Hamas! Jews to the gas”- in Utrecht!

Five men and boys were arrested for unruly behaviour during a demonstration to show support for Palestinians in Gaza in the central Dutch city of Utrecht, police said. A police statement issued Friday said the men were detained for shouting insults, disturbing the peace and ignoring orders to disperse Thursday night.

Police said about 300 men, most of Moroccan ancestry, attended the Utrecht rally. Dutch television showed a group of young men chanting “Hamas! Hamas! Jews to the gas.” The chant is used by Dutch football fans who dislike Amsterdam Ajax, which is identified as a “Jewish” team by both its own supporters and opponents.

Several hundred pro-Israel supporters are staging a rally Friday in front of the Dutch parliament building in the Hague.

“Officials said that they remained unsure of the motive for the killing and were investigating the guard’s background,” although infiltration is being acknowledged as a possibility. The grave difficulty that Westerners have in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere is that there is no reliable way to determine who is really on their side and who is on the side of the jihadists, no matter how many bridges have been built and how many hearts and minds won.
