Support for Israel has never ranked high on the United Nations’ agenda. And the upcoming World Conference Against Racism, scheduled for early 2009 in Geneva, Switzerland, presents a valid case. Many observers are concerned that the UN-sponsored event will simply serve as yet another a platform to launch attacks against Israel — as the previous world anti-racism conference did in Durban, South Africa, seven years ago.

* Â Â Italy wants Libya to crack down on the thousands of illegal migrants smuggled across the Mediterranean to Italian shores. Libya has largely not delivered on pledges over the past few years to eliminate the problem. Italy will pay for $500 million worth of electronic monitoring devices on the Libyan coastline.
“There should be “fewer clandestine migrants leaving Libyan shores for Italian coastlines”, Berlusconi said
There’s little reason to be optimistic they will pay anytime soon. Qaddafi has a history of discarding his promises once he gets what he wants. And now he’s laughing about it.
BENGHAZI, Libya:Â Italy agreed over the weekend to pay Libya $5 billion as compensation for its 30-year occupation of the country, which ended in 1943.

* Yep. Stoopid and poor because of Islam, not because of anything else. Â But they won’t tell you that. They will tell you its because of Israel, or because of colonialism, or because Allah wills it, or because the evil infidels withhold the jiziyah from them or some such. But they make sure they never run out of conspiracy theories, like this one:Â

* Unfortunately we have already chosen Ban Ki-Moonbat for the Asshole of the month award. But Juan Cole, this suckling pig for Islamofascism, is always good for it. He doesn’t even seem to be aware of his hypocrisy  when his entire career is based on making excuses for Islamic fanatics.
Here is the article with comments from Robert Spencer:Â

* The nutroots throw hissy fits, the Musulmaniacs cry ‘Islamophobia & racism’ and even the ‘right wing’ columnist Andrew Bolt doesn’t seem to be able to make up his mind where he stands on the issue:
It certainly seems wrong, even ugly and divisive, yet the concerns that produced it cannot safely be trampled over:
The Camden residents’ group that fought a Muslim society’s proposal for a school in rural Camden has welcomed a Catholic organisation’s plans to build a school nearby  because “Catholics are part of our community”.
If you picture Australia as largely a mosaic of Camdens, you realise how careful any federal government must be in playing with immigration policy.
Sydney, Sep 9 (IANS) A proposed Catholic school near here has been supported by the residents’ group, who had earlier this year rejected a plan to build an Islamic school on Sydney’s south-western fringes, raising uncomfortable questions of double standards and racism in this historic Australian town.
But the Camden/MacArthur Residents’ Group rejects any suggestion of racism. (because Islam is not a race/ed)

(BangkokPost.com) – Southern insurgents ‘Missionary Bandits’ shot dead a government official in the southern province of Pattani on Tuesday before beheading him, police said.
The victim is identified as Attapong Gonlom, 26, an assistant chief of his village council in Yarang district. He was the 41st person beheaded by separatist forces since the dispute in the South escalated in January, 2004.
According to police, he was shot when he was driving a pickup truck in front of a school in the district. Then, the insurgents dragged his body out of the vehicle and cut his head off in front of students and teachers.
Also in Pattani, three patrol soldiers were wounded by a roadside bombing. They were rushed to a nearby hospital.
