Rockets hit Israel ‘from Lebanon’ – Al Bebeeceera

At least three rockets fired from the direction of Lebanon have landed in the north of Israel, Israeli security forces say.

Israel’s Haaretz newspaper said at least one rocket had hit the Nahariya area, north of the city of Haifa.

There were no immediate reports of any injuries or damage.

The news came as Israel reported making 60 air strikes on the Gaza Strip in a single night, targeting facilities used by the Hamas group.

Lebanon: Nasrallah threatens ‘new war’ against Israel over Gaza

                                    

 

Beirut, 7 Jan. (AKI) – The leader of Lebanon’ s militant Shia group Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, has threatened a “new war” against Israel in retaliation for its offensive in the Gaza Strip. In a speech delivered in Beirut on Wednesday, the Lebanese cleric also attacked Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak for failing to open the Rafah border crossing.

“I say to Israel we are ready for a new war. We are better prepared for any new war than we were in 2006,” said Nasrallah

“We are not afraid of your planes or your threats we and are ready for any scenario.” (of course not he is not afraid. That’s why he is hiding in Teheran and in Syria…)

European Union external relations commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner told Israel President Shimon Peres in a meeting on Tuesday that “Israel’s image is being destroyed” by its refusal to heed ceasefire appeals.

Italians stationed in Nassiriya donated  47 electricity generators to the local mosque, which the Shia religious leader in the area, Majeed al-Esawee distributed to local clergy.

Lovely.

“The Italian humanitarian gesture made many Muslims happy. They were praying in the dark and now they have light. No one ever gave us a gift like that and we hope that the collaboration (with the Italians) will continue,” said al-Esawee.

Nassiriya is notorious in Italy, where is remembered for the brutal massacre of 19 Italians in November 2003. Al-Qaeda took responsibility for the attack that killed 12 Italian police, five soldiers and two civilians.

At the local Training Center they are running a variety of courses, including seminars on women’s rights.

While the fighting continued in Gaza, it was a busy day in New York at the United Nations. Demonstrations of protest were held outside, while negotiations took place inside. 

Jewish groups protested outside the UN building Monday, chanting “Hamas is al-Qaeda.” They tried to send a message to diplomats that any solution to the current crisis in the Middle East must end the chokehold on the area by Hamas terrorists.

Fears that the conflict in Gaza could spark violence between Jews and Muslims in France have been heightened as three teenagers were arrested yesterday for an alleged anti-Semitic attack on a 15-year-old girl.

An inquiry was launched after the victim said she was insulted, knocked to the ground, kicked and punched by a gang of 10 youths as she left Leon Blum school in Villiers-le-Bel north of Paris.

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) – The players on Israeli basketball team Bnei Hasharon fled to their changing room Tuesday after angry protests by hundreds of Turkish fans before a European Cup game against Turkish club Turk Telekom.
The game was later postponed after about 1,500 policemen failed to evacuate the Ataturk sports arena. Authorities did not say when or where the match would be played.
