The Israelis just struck back hard at Hamas in Gaza. In response, the United Nations, the European Union and the Arab world (at least publicly) expressed their anger at the killing of over 300 Palestinians, most of whom were terrorists and Hamas officials.

For several prior weeks, Hamas terrorists had been daily launching rockets into Israeli towns that border Gaza. The recent volleys of missiles had insidiously become more frequent — up to 80 a day — and the payloads larger. Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorists were reportedly supplying their own training and expertise.

As Ibn Taymiyya demonstrated some 700 years past, “Defensive warfare is the most critical form of warfare, [since we are] warding off an invader from [our] sanctities and religion. It is a unanimously accepted duty. After belief, there is no greater duty than to repulse the invading enemy who corrupts faith and the world. There are no rules or conditions for this; he must be expelled by all possible means. Our learned ulama and others have all agreed to this. It is imperative to distinguish between repulsing the invading, oppressive infidel [Defensive Jihad] and pursuing him in his own lands [Offensive Jihad].”
In other words, after faith itself, nothing is more obligatory to Muslims than “repelling” invading infidels — which, of course, is precisely how Israel’s actions are being rationalized. Moreover, there are “no rules or conditions” involved: i.e., suicide-bombings are unquestionably valid. The jihad against Israel is therefore obligatory to all Muslims — including women and children; the latter need not even receive permission from their fathers, which may be required before going on an offensive jihad.

When Ed Husain famously renounced Islamism there were some who warned that, despite his denunciation of Hizb ut Tahrir and Islamist ideology, he remained dangerously confused and should not be treated as a serious reformer. I thought this was too harsh. He had, after all, bravely taken an enormous step out of the darkness; surely he had to be given time and encouragement to adjust properly to the light. Surely it was a good thing that he was encouraging young British Muslims to turn away from Islamic radicalism. The extreme importance of that task was such that, even when he wrote a stupid and ignorant piece about Zionism, I hoped that if he was now told the truth about the history of Israel and the Jewish people, he would realise the error of his thinking on that particular issue. So I gave him the benefit of the doubt.
With first this press release from the Quilliam Foundation soon after the start of the current Israeli operation in Gaza, and now his poisonous piece on the Guardian’s Comment is Free today, Ed Husain has shown that in the great battle to defend civilisation against barbarism he is on the wrong side.

This video is also being sent around on Muslim email lists in the United States today. Kufr is unbelief. Fasad is mischief or corruption, for which the Qur’an prescribes penalties: “The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter” (5:33).
That explains why, as we reported here a week ago, Hamas is just fine with crucifixion — asWND and others are reporting now.

Two protesters demonstrating against the BBC’s coverage of the Israeli bombing of Gaza glued themselves to entrance barriers at BBC Wales in Cardiff yesterday.
Bob Cottrell and Dee Murphy, of the Swansea-Palestine link group, were released after causing disruption in the foyer for almost three hours.
Another member of the group, Fiona Williams, claimed the BBC’s coverage of the bombing was pro-Israeli.
She said: “Hamas is referred to as a militant organisation, rather than the democratically-elected government, having been elected by a huge majority.
“The settlements in the West Bank should be referred to as illegal, the Israeli Defence Force as the Israeli Army, and the separation barrier as the apartheid wall.”
