A senior Labour peer was told today that she will not face charges for fraudulently claiming living allowances because the House of Lords rules on claiming expenses are so vague.
Baroness Uddin received £100,000 in “night subsistence” after designating an allegedly empty flat in Kent as her main home despite having a family home just four miles from Westminster.
No peer is likely to face charges for fraudulently claiming the allowance after a senior parliamentary official ruled that their “main house” might be a place they visit only once a month.

A would-be suicide bomber worked for British Airways and plotted to take advantage of cabin crew strikes to launch an attack, it was alleged yesterday.
Rajib Karim, a trusted IT expert at the airline, planned to volunteer for crew training to help keep flights running during the threatened walkouts.
He also used his access to BA’s computer systems to gain insider knowledge about airline security and pass it to terror masterminds in Yemen and Pakistan, a court heard.
Union bosses seized on the revelations to claim that passengers could be endangered by BA’s tactics for beating the planned strikes. The airline says it has more than 1,000 volunteer staff ready to work as cabin crew in the event of industrial action.
Karim, 30, was born in Bangladesh and came to Britain a few years ago to get a UK passport which would smooth his terror mission, it was claimed. More from Daily Mail

Sometimes they cut to the essence of the story, those tabloid headline-writers, even when they haven’t got the quotation exactly right. What the German politician being quoted in the Bildarticle cited above actually said was, “A bankrupt party must use everything he has to make money and serve his creditors. … Greece owns buildings, companies and several uninhabited islands, which can now be used to repay debt.”
What he meant, though, was more accurately reflected in that Bild headline: The Germans are fed up with paying Europe’s bills. They don’t want to bail out the feckless Greeks with theirflagrantly inaccurate official statistics; they resent being Europe’s banker of last resort; they object to the universal demand that they plug the vast holes in the Greek budget deficit in the name of “European unity”; and for the first time in a long time they are saying it out loud. Not only are tabloids demanding the sale of the Acropolis, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Germany’s deeply serious paper of record, has pointed out that while the Greeks are out protesting the raising of the pension age from 61 to 63, Germany recently raised its pension age from 65 to 67: “Does that mean that the Germans should in future extend the working age from 67 to 69, so that Greeks can enjoy their retirement?‘ More from Slate

When a sufficient number of non-Muslims grasp all the ways that Islam explains the impoverishment and wretchedness of Arab (and many non-Arab Muslim states, and the more they wish to mimic the Arabs, the more likely the people of those states will have to endure similarly wretched polities), and cease to think that they owe the Arabs and Muslims anything, and when the Arabs and Muslims themselves become aware of what we understand, and they show themselves completely unable to rebut what we have concluded, and some of them indeed echo what we say, embarrassedly no doubt but also unavoidably, then the Camp of Islam will be on the defensive, as it should be, so we, especially in the advanced West, can reduce the threat from Muslims and Islam to manageable proportions, and stop squandering so much time, so much money, so much weaponry, so much everything, on a matter that reallly can be handled, if the foolish in our governments are ignored, and the well-informed and cunning brought in.
