‘’Has Australia forged foreign passports before? I believe it has occured…”

Apparently Opposition foreign affairs spokesman Julie Bishop has made a terrible gaffe by telling the truth and exposing the hypocrisy behind the Rudd Government’s huffing over Israel:

In an interview with The Age online, Ms Bishop said it would be naive to think ‘’Israel is the only country … that has used forged passports, including Australian passports, for security operations’’. When asked, ‘’What? We do?’’ she said ‘’yes’’.

Later she said: ‘’Has Australia forged foreign passports before? You’ll have to ask the Foreign Minister.’’ Pressed on what she thought, she said: ‘’I believe that it has occurred.’’

But in a statement later, she denied having told The Age online that Australian intelligence agencies had forged the passports of other nations.

‘’My responses were referring to the fact that forged Australian passports have been used previously … I have no knowledge of any Australian authority forging any passports of any nation.’’

Bishop’s real gaffe is to retreat under fire from what she correctly said. A Paul Keating would have gone in even harder.

I wrote last week about the American Academy of Pediatrics’ support for Female Genital Mutilation-lite – a “ritual nick.” In return, I received a remarkable number of letters asserting I’d invented the whole thing. Not so. You can find chapter and verse and here.

One reason why readers think we right-wing madmen are just making this stuff up is because of the shameful silence (and worse) of western feminists, who implicitly accept a two-tier sisterhood, in which some women get to lead the lives they choose while others, in the interests of “cultural sensitivity,” get a literally rawer deal that begins with FGM and, if they’re really unlucky, ends with “honor killing.”

So I’m happy to salute the great Tina Brown, a fully paid-up Clinton-Blairite but not one prepared to descend into barbarism. Over at her Daily Beast, Ms. Brown has published a tough and unsparing column by Ayaan Hirsi Ali on what the AAP’s “nick” really means — and where it leads. I have one tiny quibble with the e-mail alert Tina sent out:

“Genital cutting” is itself a euphemism. In its 1998 policy position, the AAP used the phrase “female genital mutilation.” A decade on, they prefer to call it “female genital cutting” — “mutilation” being regarded by cultural accommodationists as too judgmental. At the rate this slippery slope is greased, you can guess where we’ll be in another decade.

So that they are not only Muslim, they are Arabized. It is a process of Arabization and Islamization in one.

Burney said his rights organisation, the Ansar Burney Trust International, had learnt that 15-year-old Gajri, the daughter of Mengha Ram, was abducted by a Muslim neighbour from her home at Katchi Mandi, Liaquatpur, in Rahim Yar Khan district on December 21, 2009.

Gajri’s parents later found out that she was beingheld captive in a madrassa or seminary in southern Punjab and that she had been married and converted to Islam, Burney said. More>>

ISLAMABAD (AFP) – Pakistan on Thursday condemned caricatures ofthe Prophet Mohammed that appeared on Facebook, blocking thesocial networking site and YouTube in a growing backlash over Internet “sacrilege.”

Several thousand activists protested against the drawings and denounced the West in an expression of outrage that sparked comparisons with riots across the Muslim world in 2006 over drawings published in European newspapers.

The caricatures appeared on Facebook after a private user asked people to submit drawings of the Prophet Mohammed in an online competition that sparked fury in conservative Muslim Pakistan.

(See, they are “conservative”, just like our conservatives in the West. Now, if we could only get rid of conservatives the muslims would really love us and we could really get along swell……ed)

As Congress labored furiously to ensure that women have equal access to federal bathrooms, insurgents in Afghanistan this month launched a series of bold strikes on U.S. and NATO bases in Afghanistan. The Potty Parity Act is proceeding apace.

The Obama administration response to the upsurge in violence in Afghanistan? It launched an investigation into allegations that a number of American soldiers were responsible for the “unlawful deaths” of at least three Afghan civilians. This, despite the recent unanimous acquittal of three heroic Navy SEALS who were swiftly exonerated by a jury after being accused of, gasp, slapping one of the most dangerous terrorist detainees in the world. Who, by the way, the SEALS heroically captured. Thank-you, Navy SEALS. There is no update yet on the terrorist’s hurt lip.

As our young men are fighting and dying in Afghanistan, our current elected officials remain hard at work. Their most recent work product includes a proposal for a new medal to reward our troops for “courageous restraint.” Have you got that? A medal for not killing the enemy. Of course most of these medals would, of necessity, be awarded posthumously.

Maybe by the time the first new medal is awarded, the “enemy” will actually be defined. The only concrete message so far from Washington, via Attorney General Eric Holder, is that the enemy is NOT radical Islamic terrorists. Whew! Read the rest of this entry »

A TEENAGER who maimed two Brisbane schoolboys with a meat cleaver in a pre-meditated attack has been sentenced to nine years in jail.

Zinajdo Hasanovic, 19, pleaded guilty in the Brisbane District Court to grievous bodily harm with intent and unlawful wounding.

The court heard one student received a 7.5cm long gash to his cheek, so deep that it hit bone. Another was slashed in the back, narrowly missing his spinal cord.

Singapore: Islamic Banking Fails, But Lets Have More of it Anyhow!

Singapore’s venture into Islamic banking failing, but they’re going to keep trying

We have previously thought that Islamic banking — that is, the accommodation of Western banking practices to Islamic legal requirements — was being pursued by non-Muslim financial institutions out of a desire for economic gain. But in this story, DBS Group is still determined to make a go of Islamic banking, despite losses. Of course, they’re confident that this venture will eventually be profitable, but perhaps there is also an ideological slant to this endeavor. Certainly the West is tied ideologically to the idea of making common cause with a benign and peaceful Islam; why not Singapore?
