How many times over the past years has the American government put pressure on the Israeli government to free prisoners — 100s of them at a time, with “blood on their hands,” but ordinarily civilian blood, even the blood of babies whose heads were smashed in — as a way of “promoting the peace-process” by winning “Palestinian trust”?
What Karzai did, in freeing those people, is intolerable. What the American government has so often done, in putting pressure on Israel to free people who, unlike the prisoners in Afghanistan, were tried and convicted of murder of civilians, is at least as intolerable.
There is a limit.
