In case anyone is wondering why Putin doesn’t expect Obama to thwart his designs in the Ukraine, let’s have another look at a famous open mic incident from 2012:
That is, Obama promised Putin’s flunky Vladimir Medvedev that he would sell out the USA and its allies once he had been reelected.
Little did Putin know that Obama would turn around and nix the presidential delegation to the Paralympic Games in Sochi. Our obligation to defend the Ukraine from invasion in return for its renunciation of nuclear weapons has now been honored.
Truth is, there isn’t a lot we can do about Russia’s activities in the Ukraine. But if we don’t find our way back to having a government that other governments take seriously, we will soon be saying the same about China’s activities in Taiwan or even Japan. (Moonbattery)

Russia fought Britain, France and the Ottoman empire for Crimea once and they will do so again. It is Russia’s only ice-free port, they are going to hang on to it and will not be blackmailed by Ukraine. Crimea has been part of Ukraine since 1954 or 56, it was handed to them, as part of the Soviet family, to celebrate 300 years of Ukraine’s entry to Russia. It was at the time an administrative decision which has just been reversed.

The only reason it’s allegedly part of the Ukraine is because Soviet boss Nikita Kruschev (who was himself Ukrainian) carved it off the Russian SSR and added it to the Ukrainian SSR for purely subjective, personal political reasons. Wherever and whoever the Crimea ends up belonging to won’t affect the world.
