SUKKUR: The secretary-general of Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP) – Noorani, Shah Ovais Noorani, has said that his party will not accept the recently adopted bill banning forced conversion because it is ‘against the spirit of Islam’. The bill, the first of its kind in Pakistan, was passed in the Sindh Assembly recently to promote religious freedom and protect the rights of minorities.

Addressing a press conference at Jamia Ghousia in Sukkur on Sunday, he said that any non-Muslim child who can differentiate between good and bad can embrace the religion of their choice, referring to a clause in the law that says conversions undertaken before the age of 18 will not be recognised. This clause has been added to safeguard the rights of children and prevent forcible conversions.

“Many Syeds and Pirs are sitting in the Sindh Assembly and I am confused how they have adopted such a bill,” wondered Noorani, who claimed he had contacted other religious parties to ‘carve out a strategy against the bill’. There are no representatives of the JUP in the Sindh Assembly.

COAS appointment

Talking about the appointment of the new chief of army staff (COAS), Noorani said the whole nation is praying for the success of the new COAS and is ready to support him. He paid tribute to outgoing army chief Raheel Sharif and said he served with utmost professionalism and dignity. “Clash between different institutions is not good for national interest,” said the JUP leader. “The new COAS has to face many challenges, including successful completion of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), increasing violations by India on the Line of Control, working boundary and others.”

He attributed stability in country’s economy to CPEC, which according to him, on completion will open avenues for jobless youth throughout the country. Besides this, he said the Gwadar Port will also prove a game-changer for Pakistanis, especially unemployed youth in Balochistan.

According to Noorani, the wrong policies of former military dictators Gen Ziaul Haq and Gen (Retd) Pervez Musharraf have caused considerable damage to the country. “Pakistan Peoples Party’s democratic government completed its tenure and the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz government, too, will complete its tenure,” he added. “This is good for democracy and democratic institutions.”

It is ironic that the Council of Islamic Ideology is not given importance and instead parliament is passing many bills to fulfil the agenda of the West, he said. “Pakistan was created in the name of Islam and therefore any un-Islamic law will not be tolerated,” he warned.

Three women aged in their 70s and 80s have serious injuries after being pushed onto train tracks in Melbourne’s south-east by a knife-wielding man.

The attack was recorded on security cameras.

Police said a 46-year-old Carnegie man got off a city-bound train at Glenhuntly station about 11:00am carrying a kitchen knife.

He stabbed a woman’s handbag, causing the knife to break, before he attacked five women.

Sergeant Jason Venturoni, of Victoria Police, said three of the victims, two of them aged 81 and 75, were pushed onto the tracks and taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

“There are suspected fractures, possible hip fractures and head injuries,” he said.

“Four of the five victims fell on to the tracks after being assaulted by the male, pushed or punched.”

He said it was lucky no-one was killed.

“It was a very very serious incident and it could’ve resulted in the death of these ladies,” he said.

Two other women, aged 25 and 36, suffered minor injuries.

‘I hid near the rubbish bin’

One of the women, Kelly Wang, said the train was not very far from the station when the victims were pushed.

“The man was very tall and strong,” she said.

“I could get away but the lady couldn’t, so he threw the ladies onto the tracks.

Lebanese Australians have demanded Immigration Minister Peter Dutton release the ethnic backgrounds of other criminal offenders or explain why he chose to “demonise” and “further alienate” their community in his comments to Parliament.

Mr Dutton said that the Fraser government had made mistakes in letting some migrants into Australia from the Lebanese Civil War in the 1970s, referring to advice that 22 of 33 terrorism offenders were second and third-generation Lebanese-Muslim Australians.

Ethnic communities are mobilising against Mr Dutton with 30 Lebanese organisations, including the Lebanese Muslim Association and Lebanese Community Council, meeting in Auburn on Friday night to discuss his comments.

Several community leaders said the comments reverse years of hard work in building cohesion and belittle the entire community.

No. These “years of hard work” did not build anything. This is a community that has become a danger for us all. Their leaders need to be put on the stand. It is high time to call them out, to tell them to shape up or ship out.

One leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of his work, said Lebanese Muslims were over-represented in the criminal system but the comments were an unhelpful smear.

“Yes it is true that Lebanese Muslims may make up a bigger percentage of those charged with terrorist offences, but they only make up 0.01 per cent of those Australians of Lebanese Muslim background. His comments are a smear on the 99.99 per cent of Australian Lebanese Muslims who are resiliently getting on with life despite the constant attacks on their identity,” he said.

“As for his marriage to A’isha at a young age, Islam defines that puberty is the age of consent for marriage. 

“Unlike you, we actually believe in the design of God, where human beings are able to have children at the age of puberty, and many young adults around the age of 12-14 often have the maturity of 25+ year olds. 

“Inversely, there are many 18 year olds who are not fit for marriage, even though the law says they are old enough.

“Islam defines the minimum limit for marriage to be puberty, but also adds capability as a condition, as marriage is a responsibility. 

“A’isha was known for her unusual maturity for her age, and she was married to the Prophet (pbuh) with the knowledge of the whole society. 

“It was not hidden. In addition to that, she became the single greatest female scholar in the history of Islam, and we take a large portion of Islam from her narrations and her Islamic opinions, and we honor her by calling her “the mother of the believers.”

Aisha never became a mother. Either she was barren or Muhammad was already unable to do his thing.

Its interesting that they put this into the entertainment section, isn’t it?

Sunrise host Samantha Armytage has taken aim at The Project panellist Waleed Aly on Twitter after Foreign Minister Julie Bishop accused him of misquoting Immigration Minister Peter Dutton.

Ignore the article, just focus on the last sentence:

“The vast majority of Lebanese-Australians are law-abiding, hard-working, good, decent people who are besmirched by a small element within their community who are doing the wrong thing.”

I beg to differ. That would have to be the vast majority of Christian Lebanese, not Muslims. Could it be that “the overwhelming majority of Lebanese Muslims in Australia” are not “hard-working, good, decent people?”  Isn’t it more likely that they carry with them an ideological baggage that rejects integration and assimilation and seeks to replace our society, our rule of law, equality of the sexes and liberty for all with Islam?

It is high time that we begin to understand that we cannot coexist. Not because we don’t want to, because Islam doesn’t allow it.

Egypt: Muslims attack Christian village on rumor of church opening, block road so fire trucks can’t enter

“Fanatic Muslims in the village of al-Naghameesh in Sohag, some 450km south of Cairo, attacked the Copts in the village todayele Friday 25 November, on rumour that they were opening a church. A guesthouse owned by Ihab Tamer, a Coptic doctor, was burned, the façades of 10 Coptic-owned houses were damaged, and a house and shop owned by Ishaq Hanna were plundered and looted. The attackers cut the road so that the fire trucks could not enter the village; they also cut off the water and power supply to the village.”

Islamic law forbids Christians to build new churches or repair old ones, so that their communities are in a perpetual state of decline. Reliance of the Traveler, a manual of Islamic jurisprudence certified as “reliable” by Egypt’s very own Al-Azhar University, explains that non-Muslims are:

… “forbidden to ring church bells or display crosses, recite the Torah or Evangel aloud, or make public display of their funerals and feastdays, and are forbidden to build new churches” – o.11.5 (6,7)

When we post stories like this, one response we sometimes get from enterprising apologists in the comments section is that they’ve never heard of this Reliance of the Traveler, and so we must be pulling it out of the ether to defame Islam. Did we infiltrate Al-Azhar to certify it, too? Al-Azhar should probably know a “misunderstanding” of Islam when they see it. Or was someone asleep at the switch that day?
