Hundreds of letters have deluged (CFP) since it published a story with pictures of Springtime in Islamberg, written by The Day of Islam author Dr. Paul Williams with the able assistance of Doug Hagmann, Bill Krayer and Michael Travis.

Many letter writers complain that local authorities are telling them they have never heard of the compound.

Islamberg is an al Fuqra house. “Fuqra has had a disturbing U.S. presence for more than 20 years.” (The weekly Standard, March 18, 2002). “Today, half a dozen Fuqra residential compounds in rural hamlets across the country shelter hundreds of members, some of whom, according to intelligence sources, have been trained in the use of weapons and explosives in Pakistan.”

In a world where authorities make like terrorism doesn’t exist, Fuqra’s founder and bossman, Sheikh Mubarik Ali Hasmi Shah Gilani, is not only alive and well — he has a road “Sheikh Gilani Lane” named after him. This road is not in faraway Pakistan, but right in Charlotte County, Virginia.

Charlotte County is a rural farming community in Central Virginia near the North Carolina border.

Nabila is “angry”, of course, and wants to present the facts about Muslims in Australia:

Muslim history in Australia dates back to 1650. That’s more than 100 years before the First Fleet.

Still, this is a more modest take on our history than that of the Mufti of Australia, Sheik Taj el-Din el-Hilali, who famously declared:

The Europeans issued a false birth certificate for it when the British seafarer Captain James Cook reached it. However, Australia already had the most ancient race of men on the face of the earth – the Aborigine people… They continue to live their primitive lives to this very day.

But when you become acquainted with their traditions among their tribes, you find that they have customs such as circumcision, marriage ceremonies, respect for tribal elders, and burial of the dead – all customs that show that they were connected to ancient Islamic culture before the Europeans set foot in Australia.

That is, Islam had roots deep in the Australian soil and read the Qur’an and called to prayer before the bells of the churches rang in Australia. The best evidence of this is the hundreds of mosques in the center of Australia built by the Afghans.

If Muslims say it, it must be true.

THE father of one of the Sydney women raped seven years ago by Bilal Skaf’s gang says rape victims should avoid court, and take matters into their own hands instead.

The father, who cannot be named, said criminal justice in the state was so biased against victims of crime that rape victims should have nothing to do with it.

“Do not go to court. Sort it out outside of the court, if you get my drift,” he said.

“Once you get to court, you will not get justice. It is a justice system in name only.”

This father’s damning assessment was delivered after a man known as MG was acquitted of raping his daughter, who can be identified only as Miss C.

While MG was acquitted of raping Miss C, he did not walk free. He is serving two 15-year sentences for his role in other rapes.

Skaf and other members of his gang are already serving prison sentences for attacks on Miss C.

Her father’s advice to avoid the justice system prompted the NSW Rape Crisis Centre to call for urgent reforms to ensure people are not tempted to take the law into their own hands.

“Violence solves nothing,” said manager Karen Willis.

* Really? A dead rapist doesn’t rape anymore.

“I empathise with this man’s position. What his daughter has gone through for seven years would be appalling. It shows we still need more changes such as special sexual assault courts to ensure people do not take the law into their own hands.”

Miss C’s father said his daughter had received “horrific” treatment by the courts and defence lawyers.

“They subpoenaed her medical records and even said in court that she had an orgasm during one of the rapes. How in the hell would they know?” he said.

“She now rarely goes out. She won’t go out in crowds and when she does, she won’t go out for very long.

“She hates being outside, particularly when she sees Muslims. She is so anti-Islam it is unbelievable, and to be honest, so am I.”

The fact that the MG case dragged on for more than five years meant he no longer had any faith in the adversarial system of justice.

“The prosecution are hindered in what they can do, whereas the defence can rip these girls apart,” he said.

“It took seven years and my daughter could not do it any more and she was one of the strongest of the lot.”

Miss C abandoned her involvement in the MG case because of delays and the removal of top prosecutor Margaret Cunneen.

* Scandalous indeed. What was behind her removal? Will we ever know?

Her father said it was time to switch to a more inquisitorial system to stop defence lawyers dragging out cases.

He also called for a better system of selecting judges.

“They say the law is equal. Don’t believe it,” he said.

During his daughter’s ordeal in the court system, he had taken his concerns to the NSW Law Society and both sides of state politics.

He said he had been “spoken down to” by the Law Society, ignored by then Attorney-General Bob Debus and told by the state Opposition that real reform would require constitutional change.

He contacted The Australian after the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal wrote to this newspaper last week about the MG case.

Miss C’s father said he rejected the court’s statement that Ms Cunneen’s removal had not triggered his daughter’s decision to walk away from the case.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali appreciates the goodness, and uniqueness, of Western civilization; she’s trying to make sure the rest of us do the same.

“Ayaan Hirsi Ali is the single most important figure in the fight for awareness of the plight of women in Islam,” says Douglas Murray, a fellow with the Social Affairs Unit, a London-based think tank, and author of NeoConservatism: Why We Need It. “Her own personal story and the eloquence and bravery that she has brought to the debate have brought the issue to the eyes of the world more than any other individual.” Murray notes that anti-Islamist Dutch parliamentary candidate “Pim Fortuyn said before his assassination, ‘It is five minutes to midnight, not just in Holland, but in the whole of Europe.’ With Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s departure, the Netherlands has gone back to sleep a little, and Pim’s clock is a stroke closer to midnight.”

Ali is grateful for what the West has done for her and many others it shields from Islamofascism. She despairs, however, for the West’s wavering self-confidence.

“Unfortunately, it is this culture that is under threat today,” she told CORE’s guests. “Many of those born into it take it for granted or, worse, apologize for it.” As Ayaan Hirsi Ali asked: “Let’s join together to protect this culture of life, this culture of liberty, this culture of ladies first.”

Iran planning strike on Europe: analyst

Iran is attempting to draw up plans to strike targets in Europe and has reconnoitered European nuclear power stations, a security analyst told a meeting at Britain’s parliament.

Claude Moniquet, president of the European Strategic Intelligence and Security Centre, a private think-tank in Brussels, said his organisation also had evidence Tehran has increased the number of its intelligence agents across Europe.

“We have serious signals that something is under preparation in Europe,” Moniquet said. “Iranian intelligence is working extremely hard to prepare its people and to prepare actions.”

The centre, which he said deals directly with European intelligence agencies, believes Iranian operatives have carried out “reconnaissance of targets in European cities, including nuclear power stations,” Moniquet said. He mentioned no other specific targets.

Preparations to target Europe’s nuclear energy plants could be tied to the diplomatic standoff over Tehran’s contested nuclear program, he told a meeting of MPs and analysts in London’s House of Commons.

Iran appeared to be preparing to target “British citizens on the streets of London,” Moniquet said. “Just as they kill British soldiers in the south of Iraq.”

BEIRUT: One of the Islamic militants killed in fighting with Lebanese troops in northern Lebanon was a suspect in a failed German train bombing attempt, a Lebanese security official said Monday.

The body of Saddam el-Hajdib was among the burned bodies of 10 Fatah al-Islam fighters found in a building in the northern city of Tripoli after it was raided by Lebanese troops and police officers during fierce fighting with the militants on Sunday, the official said in an interview.

The body of another high-ranking member of Fatah al-Islam, known as Abu Yazan, was found in the same building in Tripoli, officials said.

Hajdib was the fourth-highest ranking official in the Fatah al-Islam group, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

Hajdib had been on trial in absentia in Lebanon in connection with the failed German plot. It was not clear if Lebanese officials had known his whereabouts before the fighting broke out Sunday in northern Lebanon, in the city of Tripoli and in a nearby Palestinian refugee camp where Fatah al-Islam has set up its headquarters.

Hajdib is a brother of Youssef el-Hajdib, who is under arrest in Germany in the bombing attempt.

The German government did not comment Monday on Hajdib’s death, but did express concern about the fighting in Lebanon.

“We are very worried about the fights between the Lebanese Army and armed groups, and we condemn attacks on the Lebanese Army fiercely,” said Martin Jäger, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry. “The disarming of the militia is urgent.”

Four other Lebanese suspects are being held in police custody in Lebanon and are being tried for their alleged role in the bombing attempt. They are Jihad Hamad, Ayman Hawa, Khalil al-Boubou and Khaled Khair-Eddin el-Hajdib.

Khaled el-Hajdib is a cousin of Youssef and Saddam el-Hajdib.

The Lebanese authorities arrested the four suspects on charges that they had planted crude bombs on two trains at the Cologne station on July 31. The bombs, found later in the day on trains at the Koblenz and Dortmund stations, failed to explode because of faulty detonators.

German surveillance cameras are said to have filmed suspects as they wheeled suitcases into the station.

Germany wants to extradite the men, but there is no extradition treaty between Germany and Lebanon. Lebanon has decided to try the suspects in its courts and defer consideration of extradition until later.

A Lebanese appeals court rejected a request from one of the four suspects to move the proceedings closer to the suspects’ homes in northern Lebanon. The defense had demanded that the trial be moved to Tripoli, arguing that the suspects’ families could not afford travel expenses to Beirut, a two-hour drive away.

Court officials, speaking on customary condition of anonymity, have said security concerns, including the possibility of an attack to free the suspects, had prompted the authorities to hold the four in the country’s main maximum security prison and to have the court sit in the Lebanese capital.

The trial is set to reconvene in Beirut on Tuesday.

The Lebanese army continues to target jihadists in the Nahr el-Bared camp in Tripoli.

TRIPOLI, Lebanon – Artillery and machine gun fire echoed around a crowded Palestinian refugee camp Tuesday as fighting resumed between besieging Lebanese troops and Islamic militants holed up inside, ending a nighttime lull.
Lebanese troops pounded with artillery at daybreak the suspected positions of the Fatah Islam militants, seeking to destroy the group with al-Qaida ties or force them out of the Nahr el-Bared camp on the outskirts of this northern port city, Lebanon’s second largest. A plume of black smoke billowed from an unknown target in the camp.

The army brought in reinforcements from other regions. Two trucks towing field artillery were seen heading toward Tripoli on the coastal highway late Monday.

The renewed fighting ended an overnight lull amid efforts for an informal cease-fire between the two sides. It was not known what sparked the exchanges.

Palestinian factions attempted to broker a cease-fire. The representative of the Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad, Abu Ahmed Rifai, said Fatah Islam militants pledged to cease firing and withdraw from positions facing Lebanese troops. A senior officer at Lebanese army command would not say a cease-fire was reached but repeated the military’s stance that it will not shoot if it does not come under fire.

Five more people dead in the Thailand jihad

YALA – Suspected separatist rebels have shot dead five people in Thailand’s restive south, police said Sunday.

A Buddhist motorcycle mechanic and a Muslim villager were killed in separate drive-by shootings late Saturday in Yala province, local officers said.

On Sunday morning in the same province, gunmen opened fire on a Buddhist woman and her 16-year-old son. The teenager died later in hospital, while his 51-year-old mother was in a serious condition.

In nearby Narathiwat province, one Muslim villager was killed in a drive-by shooting, local police told AFP, while a Buddhist construction worker was shot dead and his body burnt beyond recognition in Pattani province.

 Australian journalist, guide injured in Yala bomb attack

A bomb explosion injured an Australian journalist and his Thai guide in Yala province on Tuesday.

Philip Blenkinsop, a freelance photographer for Time Magazine, was taking photographs of a victim who was shot and burnt beyond recognition when a bomb exploded near him.

Blenkinsop suffered several sharpnel wounds to his body while his guide, Roya Bango, suffered slight injury to the back.

First of all, let me define my terms and say what I mean by Islamism and liberalism. By liberalism I mean the commitment to a free society, founded above all on the separation of secular government from religious worship — from which follow the concepts of equal respect for all people, freedom of conscience, tolerance and the rule of law.

These two concepts, Islamism and liberalism, are currently engaged in a fight to the death. My argument is that liberalism is in danger of losing this fight because it has so badly undermined itself and departed from its own core concepts that it is now paralysed by moral and intellectual muddle.

Liberalism is the creed of modernity. The driving force behind the Islamic jihad is the fight against liberalism and modernity. All the iconic conflicts — Iraq, Israel, Kashmir, Chechnya, Sudan —are secondary to the fundamental aim of the jihad to prevent liberalism and modernity from destroying Islam.

The founding ideologue of modern Islamism, Syed Qutb, made clear in his writings that at the core of the salafi interpretation of Islam was opposition to the separation of religion and temporal power that resulted in liberalism and democracy. His governing impulse was the fear that the instinct for liberty was so powerful it would spread to and infiltrate the Muslim mind unless it was checked by the most repressive possible form of Islam.

The Big and Little Satans themselves, America and Israel, are proxies for liberalism and modernity. That’s why Islamism says they must be destroyed. Qutb famously went to America and concluded from seeing men and women dancing at a church hop that America was one giant brothel. And much of the bitter hostility to the Jews who started returning to Palestine in the 1920s was because the women wore shorts and were sexually free.

The Islamist goal is to destroy the virus of freedom and modernity before it infects the Islamic world, and to replace it with Islam. That is the core of the profound threat it poses to the west, a threat mounted through the pincer movement of both terrorism and cultural takeover.

This cultural takeover, or the aim to Islamise the west, was explicitly laid out in a programme of subversion for Europe by the Wahabbi Muslim Brotherhood almost 30 years ago. In 1978, the Organisation of the Islamic Conference sponsored a seminar in London which said Muslim communities in western countries must establish autonomous institutions with help from Muslim states, and lobby the host country to grant Muslims recognition as a separate religious community as a step towards eventual political domination.

In Britain in 1980, a book called ‘The Islamic Movement in the West’ by Khuram Murad advocated an ‘organised struggle to change the existing society into an Islamic society…and make Islam…supreme and dominant especially in the socio-political spheres…’ A Muslim Brotherhood document seized in Switzerland in 2001, known as ‘The Project’, outlined a twelve-point strategy to ‘establish an Islamic government on earth’. And the Brotherhood has now set up an intricate network of bodies across Europe to put all this into action.

Many Muslims in Britain and around the world are deeply opposed to this; indeed Muslims are the most numerous victims of the jihad. That’s why I use the term Islamism, to distinguish those who believe in Islamic conquest from those who merely draw upon Islam for spiritual sustenance. But at the same time, it is false to deny that Islamism is the dominant force in the Muslim and Arab world, false to deny that it is radicalising millions of Muslims in the west, and false to deny the huge inroads it has made into western society through this pincer movement of terrorism and cultural pressure.

But many in the west do deny it. They ignore the clear evidence of the goal of Islamising the west. They choose to believe instead that the reason for Islamist terror lies in the wrongs the west has done to the Islamic world —Iraq or Palestine, discrimination or Islamophobia. Indeed, even to speak in this way is to invite the deadly label of Islamophobia — a term invented to shut down legitimate and vital debate about Islamism. Far from defending core liberal values that are thus singled out for destruction, such people thus side with or appease those who attack them. So Europe — bastion of free speech — attacked those newspapers which published and re-published the Mohammed cartoons. And liberals committed to human rights march on the streets of London, behind banners saying Free Iraq and Free Palestine, shoulder to shoulder with Islamists who believe in death to gays.

Why is a liberal society so reluctant to defend its own most cherished values of freedom and tolerance? The answer, I suggest, lies both in the intrinsic nature of liberalism — and also in what I would call our dominant culture of corrupted liberalism, in which true liberal values have actually been turned on their heads.

* Hmm, just wondering what kind of ‘doctor’ Ismail Haniyeh is. Doctor of terrorism? In which university did he graduate?
