What’s worthwhile reporting is not so much the actual story, but the report here actually comes from PRAVDA, which just goes to show that our mainstream media has long lost any edge and that you can get your news cooked anywhere these days:

The killing of top Taliban commander Mullah Dadullah, a one-legged fighter who orchestrated a rash of suicide attacks, beheadings and an ethnic massacre, marks a major victory for the U.S. campaign.

As victims of Dadullah’s brutality celebrated the announcement of his death Sunday, analysts called the killing the most significant Taliban loss since the 2001 U.S.-led invasion, though one that would have little long-term impact after a new militant leader fills Dadullah’s role.

Dadullah, a top lieutenant of Taliban leader Mullah Omar, was killed in the southern province of Helmand during a U.S.-led operation that also involved NATO and Afghan troops, NATO’s International Security Assistance Force said.

Kandahar Gov. Asadullah Khalid, who called Dadullah a “brutal and cruel commander” showed the body to reporters in Kandahar who saw a one-legged corpse with bullet wounds to the head, chest and stomach.

Qari Yousef Ahmadi, a purported Taliban spokesman, denied that the Taliban commander had been killed, but there appeared little doubt Dadullah was dead.

Dadullah is the second top-tier Taliban field commander to be killed in the last six months, after a U.S. airstrike killed Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Osmani in December. Dadullah, Osmani and policy-maker Mullah Obaidullah had been considered Omar’s top three leaders.

Rahimullah Yusufzai, a Peshawar-based editor for the Pakistani newspaper The News and an expert on the Taliban, said Dadullah’s death was “the biggest loss for the Taliban in the last six years.” But he noted that even though the Taliban were demoralized after Osmani’s death in December, they quickly resumed attacks.

“I don’t think they can find someone as daring and as important as Dadullah,” Yusufzai said. “I think maybe temporarily some of their big operations will be disrupted, but I don’t think it will have a long-term effect.”

Mustafa Alani, director of security and terrorism studies at the Dubai-based Gulf Research Center, said insurgent attacks in Iraq did not abate after the killing of al-Qaida’s leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, last June.

“In this sort of organization, people are replaceable, and always there is a second layer, third layer. They will graduate to the leadership,” Alani said. “He is important, no doubt about it. Yes, it is a moral victory, but he’s replaceable.”

Still, Dadullah’s particular brand of cruelty was unmatched inside the Taliban.

In this one, “Farfur Mouse” is caught cheating on a test, and blames the Jews.

Then jolly Uncle Hazim tells the kiddies how wonderful it will be for the Jews and Christians when Islam takes over the world.

But not only that, he reminds them that Jews and Christians never had it better than under Islamic rule.

Words like “bomb” and “die” draw attention to the small sign in front of Good News Independent Baptist Church.
Rev. Gary Murrell put up the sign, which on one side claims the message of Islam is “submit, convert or die.”

Despite some in the Islamic community who claim the sign is offensive, Murrell says it is not a hate sign.

“It was not put up there with the purpose of showing that we hate those people,” he said. “It’s not the people, it’s the religion.”

Murrell says it is a violent religion compared to Christianity. But not everyone agrees.

“I would really say that the actions of one individual really do not represent the Islamic faith,” said Debbie Jaunich, with the Islamic Center of Raleigh. “The Islamic faith really calls for peace.”

Yes, Debbie, it does. It also calls for other things, needless to say. And what, pray, does Islam mean by “peace”? A humble acceptance of diversity of opinion and criticism of one’s faith? Not exactly. Rather, once the earth is subdued under Sharia law then, of course, peace will reign. In the meantime, Allah ordains combat against the House of War (the non-Muslim world) in a myriad of places throughout the Quran and the other canonical Islamic sources that I am, now on my fourth glass of port, too tipsy to specify.

“It’s sad to see that we still have this kind of ignorance in the community about the Islamic faith,” she added.

Murrell says the sign has been up for about a week and that he plans to change it this weekend.
But discussion about the message will likely continue. The Islamic Center of Raleigh is inviting Murrell and his congregation for a visit to learn more about Islam.

Security officials from Europe’s largest countries backed a plan Saturday to profile mosques on the continent and identify radical Islamic clerics who raise the threat of homegrown terrorism.

The project, to be finished by the fall, will focus on the roles of imams, their training, their ability to speak in the local language and their sources of funding, EU Justice and Home Affairs Commissioner Franco Frattini told a news conference after a meeting on terrorism.

Italian Interior Minister Guiliano Amato said Europe had extensive experience with the “misuse of mosques, which instead of being places of worship are used for other ends.

“I think this is nonsense, I think mosques have been well monitored for some years,” he said in a telephone interview. “It is a form of religious discrimination.”

Frattini emphasized the need of deeper dialogue with the Islamic communities “to avoid sending messages that incite hate and violence.”

Separately, the security officials from Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Poland also pledged to work with African nations to interrupt a new cocaine route from Colombia across Africa into Europe.

“They have created bases in Europe and we need to have our counter-bases,” Amato said, noting that the Spaniards have seen an influx of cocaine in the south and east of their country coming from beyond the traditional Atlantic route.

The officials proposed setting up drug-fighting bases in Portugal to monitor smuggling by sea and in Gibraltar to watch land routes.

After a legal marathon that lasted five years, Mounir el Motassadeq has lost his final appeal against his conviction for involvement in the Sept. 11 terror plot. Germany’s Federal Court of Justice has rejected his appeal, meaning he will now spend 15 years in jail.

Moroccan Mounir El Motassadeq, a friend of the Sept. 11 hijackers, has lost his final appeal against his 15 year sentence for being an accessory to mass murder.

The ruling that sealed Mounir el Motassadeq’s fate contained just a few lines. The five judges of the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe threw out the 33-year-old Moroccan’s appeal as “unfounded.” A re-examination of the judgement handed down in January 2007 had not revealed any “legal errors.” The ruling means that Motassadeq has now exhausted all the legal avenues open to him in Germany. In January the Federal Constitutional Court rejected a separate appeal against his 15-year sentence.
The Federal Court of Justice ruling draws a final line under the legal dispute surrounding Motassadeq. The Moroccan man’s lawyers had filed the appeal against the sentence handed down by Hamburg’s Higher Regional Court on Jan. 8. After a five year legal odyssey Motassadeq was sentenced to 15 years in prison in prison for providing the 9/11 hijackers with logistical support. The court found him guilty of membership of a terrorist cell and of being an accessory to murder.

Motassadeq had lived in Hamburg and was a close friend of Mohamed Atta and some of the other 9/11 attackers. He was arrested in 2001, two months after the attacks on New York and the Pentagon. He was first convicted and sentenced to the maximum 15 years in prison in 2003 but that verdict was overturned by a federal court the following year — largely because the court did not have access to evidence from al-Qaida suspects in US custody.

At a retrial in 2005, the Hamburg court acquitted him of direct involvement but sentenced him to seven years for membership in a terrorist organization. Prosecutors appealed and in November 2006, the Federal Court of Justice handed down a guilty verdict, convicting him on 246 counts of accessory to murder. The presiding judge Klaus Tolksdorf said the evidence showed that Motassadeq knew the terrorists were planning to hijack planes for the attacks and that it didn’t matter if he knew the exact targets or timing of the attacks.
Andreas Schulze, who represented several of the victims of the 9/11 attacks during the marathon of trials, welcomed the ruling. “For the victims it is important that the judgement is legally binding and that the sentence has been confirmed,” he told SPIEGEL ONLINE.

“I’m calling on all children to read more and more to prepare for exams because the Jews don’t want us to learn,” said Farfur who failed the test.
Broadcast weekly for an hour, the show also featured a short film recalling the anguish of little girl Huda Ghalya, whose family was killed on a Gaza beach last June in a blast for which Israel denied responsibility.

“Anyone who wants to go to the sea will be killed,” said Farfur.

“Yes Farfur, but also they killed her family because we are Palestinian,” interjected reporter Hazem Sharawi, before calling for Islamic rule and for Spain to be returned to Muslim rule as after the 8th century Moorish invasion.

“Palestine will return free and Andalus will return soon. Hello Egypt, Damascus and Algeria. Islam will return for all whole world,” he said.

Friday’s show also taught tomorrow’s pioneers that the cities of Jaffa, Haifa and Acre, in modern-day Israel, in addition to Jerusalem, belong to their country. Songs are sung about Palestine and about facing the enemy.

An ordinance that bans profiling was approved Wednesday by the Detroit City Council. It prohibits police and city employees from asking about the immigration status of residents.

The council voted unanimously for the law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, dress, physical appearance and immigration status. Under the new law, police cannot ask people for their immigration papers unless it was related to a crime.

In Detroit, some immigrants complain that, after being pulled over by police, they have been asked for residency papers. Others say they are afraid to apply for city help or programs such as home-repair assistance because of their immigration status.
Hmmm . . . Illegally aliens afraid to take America’s tax-funded services? And that’s a problem because . . . ?

“It’s not something a city employee should be asking,” said City Council President Kenneth Cockrel Jr., who introduced the bill. “It’s not within their purview.”

There isn’t a single word in this article about the Islamic supremacist messages that are a huge part of this show. They’re teaching children that Islam is going to take over the whole world, and the mainstream media are covering it up.

Complete with Islamic songs and calls for cities in Israel to return to Palestine, Friday’s episode apparently sought to prepare children for their end-of-year examinations — with Farfur being told that cheating is forbidden.

Asked why by an Al-Aqsa television reporter, he looked left and right to see what his friends were writing and answered: “Because the Jews destroyed my home and I left my books and notes under the rubble.”

“I’m calling on all children to read more and more to prepare for exams because the Jews don’t want us to learn,” Farfur then said after being told he had failed the test.

On Thursday, the chairman of the board of Al-Aqsa television, Fathi Hamad, refused to bow to pressure to cull the “Tomorrow’s Pioneers” programme or to doctor its content.

“This campaign of criticism is part of a plan orchestrated by the West and the occupying power to attack Islam on the one hand and the Palestinian cause on the other,” he said.

MANILA (Reuters) – A bomb killed four people and wounded 29 when it tore through a billiard hall in the southern Philippines on Tuesday in an attack military officials blamed on an al Qaeda-linked Islamist group.
The blast took place at a busy street corner in Tacurong City, officials said. Tacurong is on the troubled island of Mindanao, about 950 km (600 miles) south of Manila.
Major-General Raymundo Ferrer, army commander in Cotabato on Mindanao, said initial inquiries indicated it was the handiwork of Jemaah Islamiah (JI), a regional militant network.
“It has all the signature of a terrorist attack,” Ferrer told reporters, ruling out politics behind the attack.
“We have strong suspicions the JI carried out the attack to remind us they’re still very much around. The target was obviously innocent people.”
Ferrer said four people were confirmed killed and 29 were wounded. Earlier, officials had reported five dead and 35 wounded, but Ferrer said some casualties had been counted twice in the initial confusion after the blast.
Benjamin de los Santos, Tacurong City’s deputy police chief, said a suspect with known links to local Islamist militants had been identified.
“We have identified a possible suspect who was seen carrying a bag before the explosion,” he told reporters.

Thailand still ‘Restive’:

NARATHIWAT, Thailand (AFP) – A Buddhist man was shot dead by suspected separatist militants on Thursday in Thailand’s restive south, police said, after two Muslims were killed overnight.

All three were killed in Narathiwat province in drive-by shootings blamed on southern militants who are fighting for an independent state.

* That’s news: For a long while, mainstream media reports from Thailand claimed that the cause of the ongoing jihad violence was a mystery—“shadowy groups who never issue demands.”

But now they seem to have settled on the way to spin it. It’s resistance. The butchers are “fighting for an independent state.”
In a separate incident in Pattani province, two soldiers were wounded in a bomb blast as they protected a group of Buddhist monks on their morning rounds to collect alms.
The violence followed a powerful roadside bombing Wednesday that tossed an army patrol truck into the air and killed all seven soldiers inside.
More than 2,100 people have died in separatist violence in the southern provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat since January 2004, and unrest is growing despite peace-building moves by the government.
Army-installed Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont plans to travel to the region on Sunday for a one-day visit with his two deputy prime ministers and seven cabinet ministers.
Surayud said he wanted to give cabinet members first-hand experience of the unrest in the region, where they would meet military and civilian officials in Pattani and Yala.
Some 200 Muslims in Yala broke up their week-long blockade of a major highway on Thursday after negotiations with the provincial governor, local officials said, but in nearby Narathiwat a new protest got underway.
About 100 Muslim women and children gathered in the main provincial town to demand the authorities release 12 suspected militants who were arrested after security forces found 50 machetes in their belonging.

As we’ve been saying here for a while, it’s completely irrelevant whether suspected plotters like the Fort Dix jihadis are card-carrying members of Al Qaeda International, Inc. Al Qaeda isn’t a formal organization, it’s an ideology—a philosophy of Islamic supremacism that is not limited to one group or country, but spreads through the medium of Islam.

I’d like to see mainstream media take one tenth of the energy and resources they’ve spent investigating US secret programs and put it into investigating where people like the Fort Dix Six learned and hardened the Islamic rationale for their plans. The New York Times has told us that the mosque they attended was a “moderate” mosque, and that’s as far as it’s going to get.

If the Times is right and they didn’t learn it at the mosque … then where? It’s a bit hard to believe that their indoctrination came entirely from the internet.

But US media are satisfied to let this remain a mystery.
