Curiously, those most wedded to lockdowns are the most vocal advocates of social and economic equality. Oscar Grenfell, for example, writes in the Socialist World Wide Website that ending the NSW lockdown would be “a profit-dominated response” favouring the corporate elite at the expense of the working class.

As a member of the Socialist Equality Party, dedicated to the overthrow of capitalism, Grenfell’s attachment to lockdowns is perhaps understandable. Others, however, have less excuse for ignoring the unfairness of measures that require those least able to cope to pay the highest cost.

The workers who are most disadvantaged by lockdowns earn a living with their hands.

Hatun Tash, a 39 year-old convert from Islam to Christianity, was “violently stabbed in the head and the arm as she preached at Speakers’ Corner in London – a place symbolic of free speech,” according to Mr Bolt. He said he was “amazed” to see Australian and British newspapers providing “almost no” reporting on the matter. “People who physically attacked people who criticised Islam were once seen as the problem … but in Britain, in much of the English-speaking world, it is now the critic of Islam who is the villain,” Mr Bolt said. He discussed the issue with with Mark Durie, who is a Senior Research Fellow at the Arthur Jeffery Centre for the Study of Islam at the Melbourne School of Theology.

Back in 2017, Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter, and YouTube founded the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT). GIFCT shares terrorism data among Big Tech companies, enabling them to flag and remove terrorist content. On Monday, GIFCT announced that it significantly expanded the types of extremist content in its database, aiming to crack down on material from white supremacists and far-right militias.

They are using the Southern Poverty Law Center as a source to identify “extremists.” The irony is excruciating, considering that SPLC is in business to whip up hatred against the perceived enemies of the extreme left.

Thousands of scientists have repeated calls for urgent action to tackle the climate emergency, warning that several tipping points are now imminent.

The researchers, part of a group of more than 14,000 scientists who have signed on to an initiative declaring a worldwide climate emergency, said in an article published in the journal BioScience on Wednesday that governments had consistently failed to address “the overexploitation of the Earth”, which they described as the root cause of the crisis.

NSW authorities have urged anyone planning to illegally protest against lockdown measures to stay home. The pleas come after more than 3500 protestors fronted the Sydney CBD last Saturday for a condemned anti-lockdown rally.

“Your actions will hurt, forget about the rest of us, but you could be taking the disease home and passing it on to your parents, your siblings, your brothers and sisters or anybody you might have limited contact with,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.

Police commissioner Mick Fuller said any protestors who arrived for a rally on the weekend would be met with over 1000 police officers.

Confirmed: ‘COVID hospitalisation’ figures are being rigged

A major exposé has been published in the United Kingdom by Laura Donnelly and Harry Yorke – Health and Whitehall editors respectively of The Telegraph:

More than half of Covid hospitalisations are patients who only tested positive after admission, leaked data reveal.

The figures suggest vast numbers are being classed as hospitalised by Covid when they were admitted with other ailments, with the virus picked up by routine testing.

Experts said it meant the national statistics, published daily on the government website and frequently referred to by ministers, may far overstate the levels of pressures on the NHS.

The leaked data – covering all NHS trusts in England – show that, as of last Thursday, just 44 per cent of patients classed as being hospitalised with Covid had tested positive by the time they were admitted.

The majority of cases were not detected until patients underwent standard Covid tests, carried out on everyone admitted to hospital for any reason.

 
I’d be surprised if this isn’t also happening here, though not on such a grand scale. Coronavirus is dangerously malleable, politically and administratively. NHS bureaucrats have an obvious vested interest in keeping hospital admissions on the high side; and so do politicians… for now. Sooner or later, however, the political class will have a more urgent interest in reducing the virus ‘burden’ by any means – even by recourse to the truth.

Bradford child sex abuse: Children ‘remain unprotected’

Children in Bradford “remain unprotected” from sex exploitation, a new report looking into abuse over two decades has said.

Vulnerable girls were not protected from horrendous abuse because authorities incl police did not want to appear racist. The grooming gangs scandal is one of the most shameful episodes in modern British history.

The independent review of five cases in the Bradford district since 2001 has found that “children suffered abuse no child should have to experience”.

Victim Fiona Goddard said the council and police had chances to “nip it in the bud” but “never did”.

The Bradford Partnership said it “fully accepts more needs to be done”.

The review was commissioned after nine men were jailed over the sexual exploitation of girls who had been in council care.

Author Clare Hyde said it “makes difficult and, at times, distressing reading.

“The children suffered abuse no child should have to experience, and in most cases had suffered other traumas and abuse long before they were sexually exploited.”

The report noted that while there had been “considerable work” done in relation to child sexual exploitation (CSE), there were still “lessons that need to be learned” and the response to some victims was “not yet good enough”.

It added that despite “significant improvements” in understanding and responding to more recent cases of CSE, some children “remain unprotected while some perpetrators remain unknown and unchallenged”.

‘Never followed up’

Fiona Goddard, who was groomed and sexually abused by gangs of men from 2008, said she was failed “multiple times” by social services and police.

“I reported it multiple times – physical abuse, sexual abuse or rapes – and they were never followed up on.”

The 27-year-old, who has waived her legal right to life-long anonymity, said most of the girls in the care home where she lived were victims of child sexual exploitation.

“They had the opportunity to nip it in the bud and save me from years of abuse but they never did.”
