In one of the most violent terror attacks on Indian soil, Mumbai came under an unprecedented night attack as terrorists used heavy machine guns, including AK-47s, and grenades to strike at the city’s most high-profile targets — the hyper-busy CST (formerly VT) rail terminus; the landmark Taj Hotel at the Gateway and the luxury Oberoi Trident at Nariman Point; the domestic airport at Santa Cruz; the Cama and GT hospitals near CST; the Metro Adlabs multiplex and Mazgaon Dockyard — killing at 101 and sending more than 900 to hospital, according to latest reports.

As fear grips Mumbai after a number of terror attacks across the city, two New Zealanders have been among the panic, barricading themselves in their hotel room for hours.

The gunmen are targeting spots popular with westerners and businessmen, and are said to be looking for people with British and US passports.

Gunmen are also reported to be holding Westerners hostage at the Taj Mahal Hotel, as well as  Cafe Leopold, perhaps the most famous restaurant and hang-out for tourists in the city.

Police say suspected terrorists remain inside several hotels.

A group calling itself the Deccan Mujahedeen has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Alan Colmes, co-host of Hannity and Colmes, the popular one hour program on Fox News at 9 PM, is quitting. Colmes, who could always be counted on to read whatever Democrat talking points were handed to him and who mastered in the art of “both sides do it so our guy shouldn’t be punished (but yours should), will be leaving the show in the new year.

This comes as good news to many of the shows viewers who have worn out the mute button on their television remotes from use every time Colmes began to speak.

Rumor has it that the show will be hosted by Sean Hannity without a co-host which will be a vast improvement.

One thousand Christians were today trapped inside the Coptic Orthodox Church of the Virgin Mary in West Ain Shams,Cairo, after more than twenty thousand Muslims attacked them with stones and butane gas cylinders. The Church’s priest Father Antonious said that the situation is extremely dangerous.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian, and soon to follow, no doubt, Western press, portray this as “sectarian strife” where both sides, Muslims and Christians, are equally guilty of “intolerance.”

Jewish and Israeli hostages taken at Chabad House in Mumbai

2nd update, Message from Chabad:

At this moment, police commandoes are trying to regain control over the Chabad House and have managed to injure or kill one of the terrorists inside.
Reports are stating that numbers of Israeli travellers as well as the local Chabad emissary along with his wife and young child have not yet been accounted for.
Their whereabouts is unknown. It is possible that they are hostages in their own Chabad House.
 
Please take a moment to recite Tehillim (Psalms) for Gavriel Noach ben Freida Bluma, his wife Rivka bas Yehudis and their son Moshe Tzvi ben Rivka along with all the other Israeli travellers and for all the others who are in danger at this time.

Update:

Islamic terrorists also attacked police headquarters in south Mumbai, the area where most of the attacks, which began late Wednesday and continued into Thursday morning, took place.

“We are under fire, there is shooting at the gate,” said a constable, A. Shetti, by phone from police headquarters.

Search for Chabad Family in Mumbai After Terrorist Strike

MUMBAI, INDIA — (November 26, 2008)

 he situation is grim late Wednesday in Mumbai (Bombay) India where reports of more than 80 dead and 250 wounded are seeping out of the beleaguered city. Of great concern is the silence from Chabad’s representatives to Mumbai, RabbiGavriel and Rivka Holtzberg. No one from the Chabad center has been heard from since the attacks.

The dead and wounded are victims of a sophisticated plot in which seven locations throughout the city were attacked by terrorists. Several of the city’s most exclusive hotels, a restaurant, train station, and hotel were bombed. The attacks come as the country is consumed by controversial elections.

The city, which is India’s financial capital, plays host to many foreigners and their embassies are assisting in the search and rescue efforts.

Lubavitch personnel in Bangkok, Israel and New York are working closely with the Israeli Foreign Ministry and  the U.S. government to help establish contact with the Holtzbergs and other missing persons in the Chabad House area.

Mumbai’s Chabad House, situated near the sites of destruction, is a popular stop for Israeli tourists. The Holtzbergs offer a host of programs, including providing kosher food, to locals and visitors alike.

At least 100 injured,  80 confirmed dead and the battle is still going on.

“Terrorists” did it. Right. At this point in time we can’t be sure whether ‘Deccan Mujaheddin’ are affiliated with Al Qaeda, but Al Qaeda is a losely knitted group that folllows a ‘certain Ideology’- hm, what might that be, that ideology?

Its just “terrorism”  nothing to do with Islam, right?

“Terrorism in Asia is on the rise,” said Rohan Gunaratna, head of the Singapore-based International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research. “It’s paramount for Asian countries to convene a summit to fight the rising terrorism.”

Karl Rove on Fox News a few minutes ago:

Michael Bloomberg a few minutes later:

“Those religious fundamentalists…” then this: he said the attacks “reminded us that there remain dark forces in the world that think killing innocents is a way to advance an agenda.” …and which ‘agenda’ is that, you numbskull????

Two Australians were among those injured in the attacks, according to the government in Canberra. One Japanese citizen was killed and another injured, the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo said.

“The terrorists don’t like the changes due to increasing Westernization…”

Gordon Brown and Ban Ki Moonbat to the front!

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said the “outrageous” attacks in India would be met with a “vigorous response,” while United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for the attackers to be “brought to justice swiftly.”

Simon Crean says at least two Australians have been injured in the attacks.

 The chief of Mumbai’s police anti-terrorist squad, Hemant Karkare, was among those killed.

ABC & Reuters go straight into BS peddling: ‘police have also arrested suspected Hindu extremists thought to be behind some of the attacks.’

Earlier this morning:

Fox interviewed a f*kcwit ‘terrorism expert’ who didn’t dare to mention Islam. CNN of course has “never heard of the group called *%@ mujaheddin although they might be affiliated with Al Qaeda”, BBC marvels at how well the attacks were coordinated,

Back to Fox: its about Kashmir, sez one, Israel is not to blame, (great!)  how long can this go on?

Terrible news from Mumbai:

Over 60 people have been killed and many more injured in several terrorist attacks in Mumbai on Wednesday night. Two five-star hotels – Trident and Taj – are under siege and gunmen are reported to have held the occupants hostage.

The choice of targets (some guaranteed to scare foreigners) and the coordination naturally suggest a terrorist group.

UPDATE

A claim of resposibility has been made via email by a group called Dekhan Hujahedin.

UPDATE 2

The gunmen were specifically targeting Britons and Americans and a top police official said the gunmen are holding hostages at two luxury hotels, the Taj Mahal and Oberoi hotels.

At least 20 Australians have been caught up in the chaos and two Australians were injured, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said… At least 20 Australians were in the Oberoi Hotel at the time of the attack, all of them members of a NSW trade delegation organised by the Department of State and Regional Development.

Gunmen conduct a ‘coordinated attack’ across Mumbai’s major tourist hubs, with over a dozen deaths and many injuries reported.

There are emerging reports of many fatalities and at least two dozen people injured in at least seven different attacks across the city.

They are also reporting more attacks in the suburbs, with five or six different incidents across the city. There may be three bombs involved, as well as gunfire.
