 MANILA, Philippines – The Moro Islamic Liberation Front on Saturday accused the Army of attacking MILF forces while the rebels were praying inside a mosque in Sarangani last Friday. 

A statement on the MILF Web site said one MILF member was killed in the attack on the 107th Base Command at 12:30 p.m. in Daliao, Maasim town.

“Firing at the Mosque, a sacred religious symbol of the Muslim, is an attack to all the Muslims the world over. This was an act totally disrespectful of the cultural and religious symbols of the Muslims,” it said.

* Sure thing. As if Muslims showed ever showed respect to other peoples cultural and religious symbols. When did they ever care when their bombs go off in churches, temples, synagogues or even other mosques? Like here or here or here (and that’s just from today!)

U.S. to sell Israel Air Force new bunker-buster bombs

Despite reservations in Washington regarding a possible Israeli strike on Iran, the American administration will supply Israel with sophisticated weapons for heavily fortified targets, the U.S. administration announced. 

The U.S. Department of Defense announced it would sell the Israel Air Force 1,000 new smart bombs, rumored to significantly enhance the IAF’s military capabilities. The deal was approved amid public and secret messages from Washington, with the Americans expressing their reservations about a possible Israeli strike against the Islamic Republic’s suspected nuclear sites. 

The Pentagon’s announcement, which came on Friday, said the U.S. will provide Israel with 1,000 units of Guided Bomb Unit-39 (GBU-39) – a special weapon developed for penetrating fortified facilities located deep underground.

TEHRAN, Iran: Iran’s hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says Palestinian resistance has “shaken” Israel and that Palestinian victory is “God’s promise.”

According to state TV, Ahmadinejad told Hamas’ prime minister in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, in a phone conversation Friday that Iran will stand beside the Palestinian people “until final victory” against Israel.

The TV quoted Haniyeh as saying the Palestinian resistance will continue despite Israeli attacks and the economic blockade of the Gaza Strip.

Haniyeh is also quoted as saying that his government in Gaza won’t recognize Israel despite Israeli attacks and political pressure. Iran doesn’t recognize Israel and supports Hamas and other Palestinian groups fighting Israel.

Police said a further three unexploded devices were found and defused, including one at India Gate, one of the country’s most iconic monuments and a major tourist attraction in the heart of Delhi.

A Muslim militant outfit, Indian Mujahideen, claimed responsibility for the bombings, which were all triggered within a 45-minute period.

“In the name of Allah, the Indian Mujahideen has struck back again. Do whatever you want. Stop us if you can,” the group said in an email sent to several media outlets minutes before the first blast at 6:30 pm (1300 GMT).

HUNDREDS of protesters turned out in Anchorage, Alaska, today in a rally against Governor Sarah Palin’s candidacy for vice president.

At least 500 protesters were outside the Loussac Library waving signs.

At least 100 Palin supporters were on the other side of the street showing support for the governor.

The protest came hours after the governor held a morning rally in downtown Anchorage, attended by as many as 1,500 cheering supporters, then flew off to Nevada to resume campaigning. It’s the first public demonstration against Palin since she accepted McCain’s offer on Aug. 29.

The protesters included a mix of Obama supporters, anti-war protesters, abortion-rights advocates and people upset that Palin, when she was Wasilla mayor, asked a city librarian about removing books.

Protesters said they were surprised at the size of the crowd, and said it was the result of e-mails that have been forwarded over the past few days promoting the event.

“I was stunned when I was coming here; I’ve never seen anything like this,” said Marybeth Holleman of Anchorage.

The Palin supporters were across the street, many shouting “Sar-ah! Sa-rah!” 
At least a half-dozen police patrol cars were at the scene, but there have been no confrontations or traffic problems reported.
