Tortured by an evil clown?

International cleaning business tycoon Mamdouh Habib has to pay the man: 

Former Guantanamo Bay detainee Mamdouh Habib has been fined in a Sydney court for swearing and offensive behaviour at a McDonald’s restaurant.

Ryde Local Court Magistrate Jennifer Betts convicted Habib last month of behaving in an offensive manner and using offensive language during an altercation with police at the fast-food outlet at Bankstown in Sydney’s southwest in May last year.

Today, Ms Betts fined him $200 fine and ordered he pay $73 court costs. 

He’s appealing the fine, possibly due to being tortured by an evil clown.

There is, of course, nothing in the Qur’an to the effect of “Throw acid on her” if she is disobedient — there is just “beat her” (4:34). And it is good to see that at least one of these men is being persecuted. But the horrible attacks on these women are an indirect result of the reduction of women to the status of commodities in Islamic law. The husbands did not see them as equal human beings with rights they were bound to respect. “Pakistani women burned by acid or fire rely on beauty of others: Women who say their husbands threw acid at them or burned them find help in becoming self-reliant through salon work,” from the Associated Press, August 16 (thanks to Banafsheh Zand-Bonazzi) via DW:

One in five Tunisian women abused

And these are just the reported cases. “Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property (for the support of women). So good women are the obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah hath guarded. (ANSAmed) – TUNIS, AUGUAT 12 – In Tunisia, which mostly takes into consideration the women’s role in the active life among the Arab countries, it might seem controversial but the statistics are merciless: 20% of the married women are victims of violence on the part of their spouse. According to the statistics announced by daily Le Temps, many of them become disfigured, handicapped, receive psychological traumas and in various cases end up committing suicide. And all this, or almost all this, happens in silence between the home walls. For fear of further retaliation, and in order not to allow showing that the marriage has been ruined, due to a psychological and physical subjection which have lasted for centuries, such as that for example which requires that the wife should always walk two steps behind her husband. Feminist organisations have been leading for a long time a campaign to raise the awareness aimed at convincing the victims of this violence to at least trust them and the social workers. However, the fact that the first step has to be made by both spouses in the family remains unchanged. The law, obviously, also punishes this kind of violence. However, the feminists observe that the law is totally dissatisfying. Because if the victim intends to file a complaint, they must present a medical certificate issued by a public hospital certifying injures curable in 21 days. Another strategic error in the failure to address the ideological basis of Jihad in Islamic supremacism is that the lack of such a strategic debate allows a series of false and misleading reports about Jihadists allegedly “renouncing” jihad or abandoning Islamism. The point of these media reports are to suggest that either (a) there is no jihadist threat, or (b) what threat does exist is diminishing as “extremists” realize the folly of violence. Such reports have one clear purpose: quash public debate on the real ideological basis behind Jihad, with the secondary purpose of questioning Jihad as a “real threat.”

The Jihadist who is still a Jihadist

One example is the July 13, 2008 UK Guardian/Observer article by Lawrence Wright “The heretic — How Al-Qaeda’s mastermind turned his back on terror.” It is clear from a close reading of the article that the headline simply is not accurate, but the Guardian/Observer doesn’t expect most of the public to read the article closely, they are simply looking for a headline to influence public opinion.

8/16/2008 PESHAWAR: Girls schools face danger of extinction in the troubled Swat valley if the present pace of torching and bombing of the institutions continued, as militants reduced 28 more schools to debris during the last 10 days of fresh violence. 

Fazlullah-commanded Taliban operating in the scenic valley started targeting girl schools to replace the existing educational system based on ‘infidel’ curriculum with an ‘Islamic’ one that could produce ‘mujahideen and honest people’. The Taliban action is also meant to bring the government to its knees to stop military operation against them.

Answering the queries of The News regarding the destruction of the girls’ schools, Swat Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan said the aim of destroying schools was to pressure the government and replace the education system. “At present, we are using the torching and bombing of schools as a war tactic against the government. Also, this education system has been producing corrupt people and needs to be reformed. Musharraf and Zardari are the production of this education system, but what they made of this country. The doctors produced by this system are also fleecing the people,” he argued.

* Sheik yer’mami  has always maintained that the ‘moderate Muslim’ is the one who dreams up excuses while the not so moderate Muslim cuts your throat. Here, a correspondent from Riyadh phrases it slightly more elegant, but the essence is the same:

Last night on Arabic TV two Muslim clerics pointed out that the expressions “al-muslim al-mu’tadil” (moderate Muslim) and “al-muslim al-mutatarrif” (extremist Muslim) do not even exist in Islamic theology but are Western inventions. The Quran and the sunna use no such terms. If you want to classify Muslims according to Islamic thinking, I am aware of two possibilities. The first is to make a distinction between the first Muslims in Mecca (where Islam was weak and propagated by preaching), and the Muslims in Medina (where Islam became strong and spread by jihad). The second is to classify Muslims by how carefully they follow Islamic teachings. Arabic calls these “multizim” (committed) or “ghayr multizim” (non-committed). It is similar to the Western concept of someone being a practicing or non-practicing Christian or an observant or non-observant Jew.
