Paki demo against Islam film:

“Death to the blasphemer”: 5,000 demonstrate against Fitna in Pakistan

* Stand for free speech:

Thousands of people have taken to the streets of Pakistan to protest against a controversial film about Islam made by a Dutch MP.

* There. That stink-word again: “controversial”

Crowds gathered in Karachi to condemn the MP, Geert Wilders, some chanting “death to the blasphemer”.  The crowd also protested against the reprinting of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in Danish newspapers. Around 5,000 people marched through the streets of Karachi. They were gathered in anger at what they see as the
gratuitous insults against their prophet emanating from northern Europe.
In particular they are angry about the film Fitna made by a right wing Dutch MP and at the reprinting of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in Danish newspapers following a plot to murder the cartoonist.
Fitna is a short film which juxtaposes the Quran with images of jihadist terror, and portrays Islam as a threat to the west.
The Dutch MP who made the film is Geert Wilders – a strident and controversial campaigner against what he describes as the Islamisation of the Netherlands.
Earlier this year he spoke to More4 News; his views are deliberately provocative.
The reaction to Wilders’ film has not yet been as widespread as the original protests against the Danish cartoons, which reached the streets of London.
Although in Afghanistan the Taliban claimed the killing of two Dutch soldiers was revenge for the release of the film.
The Dutch government, despite criticising Fitna, has relocated embassy staff in Pakistan and Afghanistan. There have been demonstrations in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Today’s protest ended peacefully though, the only casualty a simple effigy of Geert Wilders.

Mahathir, who urged Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to step down after the country’s ruling coalition suffered the worst electoral disaster in its history at polls in March, had increasingly turned to the Internet to air his critical views of Abdullah, saying he was being ignored by the mainstream media.

So that should be enough to make us believe that the Islamic call for genocide against the Jews is no longer to be taken serious?

Qaradawi also sanctions domestic violence against disobedient wives, blames rape victims who do not dress with sufficient modesty, and supports the barbaric practice of female genital mutilation.

Qaradawi preaches a right-wing agenda of misogyny, anti-Semitism and homophobia. He does not respect human rights. In defiance of the Geneva Conventions and every humanitarian instinct, he has justified the taking of civilian hostages and the suicide bombing of innocent civilians. Displaying the worst kind of anti-semitism, he urges: “Destroy the usurper Jews.” He does not say destroy Jewish settlers and soldiers oppressing Palestinians, but destroy the Jews – all of them.

*  What Tatchell probably doesn’t know, is that this is standard fare of Islamic teaching and essential to just about every Friday kuthba (sermon) in the mosques around the world:

The only terrorist to escape alive when the SAS stormed the Iranian Embassy in London 28 years ago is on the point of being freed to build a new life in Britain.
Iranian diplomats say they have been told a parole hearing will be held within weeks. They expect Fowzi Badavi Nejad to be freed soon afterwards and granted asylum.

Officials in Tehran have demanded his return so that he can face trial in Iran for the murder of two hostages during the siege in 1980, which would lead to an inevitable death sentence.

But the Daily Mail has learned that preparations are under way for 50-year-old Nejad, who is Iranian, to spend the rest of his life in Britain.

Iran has warned bluntly that the already strained relations between London and Tehran will suffer further if he is not sent back.

Whitehall sources accept, however, that there is no realistic prospect of removing Nejad as human rights legislation prevents Britain sending anybody back to a country where they are likely to be executed.

Alleged terror leader ‘threw a tantrum.’  Benbrika cried when teachings queried, agent says

AN accused terror leader Nacer Benbrika became enraged and began to cry when queried about the validity of his teachings, a court heard yesterday.

*   In an interview before his arrest, Benbrika denied that he was involved in terrorist activities. “I am not involved in anything here,” he said. “I am teaching my brothers here the Koran and the Sunnah, and I am trying my best to keep myself, my family, my kids and the Muslims close to their religion.”

* A soldier of Allah,  one who proudly proclaims that he follows the Koran and the sunnah, has no place in the Dar-ul Harb. Benbrika’s proclamation should be enough to put him away forever…

The Supreme Court was told Abdul Nacer Benbrika also bemoaned Muslims who refused to stand up for Islamic law during a series of religious classes in 2004.

An undercover agent, known as SIO39, told the jury the classes were attended by other men accused of forming a home-grown terror cell bent on committing violent jihad in Australia.

SIO39 said Majed Raad approached Mr Benbrika in May 2004 after his parents raised concerns that the spiritual leader’s teachings did not accord with their beliefs.

SIO39 said Mr Benbrika became angry and upset when he looked over a book said to back another philosophy.

“He was yelling, he was enraged, he even began to cry at one point,” he said.

The court heard Mr Benbrika criticised the book until Mr Raad agreed his parents were wrong and said he would burn the book.

SIO39 said two months later Mr Benbrika “bemoaned those Muslims content to remain idle” and negate their obligations under Islamic law. He said Mr Benbrika then turned the topic to jihad.

“He wondered how Muslims could sit still while their brothers and sisters were being killed overseas,” SIO39 told the jury.

The agent said at a class in September that alleged group member Fadl Sayadi said men in Chechnya who took children hostage at a school could not be criticised if they were acting for the good of Islam.

SIO39 said Mr Sayadi told others present Allah would “prefer anything than seeing a single drop of Muslim blood spilt”.

Those who have pleaded not guilty to being a member of a terror group are: Mr Benbrika, 48, of Dallas; Abdullah Merhi, 22, of Fawkner; Shane Kent, 31, of Meadow Heights; Majed Raad, 23, of Coburg; Aimen Joud, 23, of Hoppers Crossing; Ahmed Raad, 24, of Fawkner; Mr Sayadi, 28, of Coburg; Ezzit Raad, 26, of Preston; Hany Taha, 33, of Hadfield; Shoue Hammoud, 28, of Hadfield; Bassam Raad, 26, of Brunswick; and Amer Haddara, 28, of Yarraville.

The trial before Justice Bernard Bongiorno continues.

Leandro Comacchio, a Northern League leader, is outside a suburban supermarket in Padua collecting signatures for a referendum to stop the construction of a mosque.

The campaign, he claims, is not aimed at Muslims. It is, rather, a protest against the “permissive” centre-left council which, he alleges, is giving away council land for construction of the 2,300sq ft mosque.

He contends that the council tolerates unchecked immigration, which has in turn exacerbated street crime, urban decay and drug dealing.

Immigration, and the perceived crime spree, has become a key issue in the city once best known for its ancient university and elegant piazzas – so much so that Northern League supporters have set up vigilante groups.

“We have formed citizen street patrols, together with residents’ associations,” Mr Comacchio said. “A minimum of four people, but often up to ten, all with phosphorescent jackets carrying the Lion of St Mark, the symbol of the Veneto region.”

Mr Comacchio does not like the term vigilantes, prefering instead “concerned residents” who call the police when necessary.

Pork is anathema to Muslims but Ms Mazzetto denies that she or the League are racist or xenophobic. “I made a provocative gesture with the pig to arouse debate,” she said. “The League has grown in strength because it is in tune with concerns of ordinary people.”

Boris Johnson sealed a nightmarish first electoral test for Gordon Brown, surging to a hugely symbolic victory for the Conservatives in London.

Mr Johnson claimed the largest prize of a triumphant day for David Cameron by ending Ken Livingstone’s eight-year reign as London Mayor. He said that he did not believe that his victory meant that London was a Conservative city, but pledged to work “flat out” to earn the trust of those who doubted his capability and commitment to the job.

By calling the terrorists “jihadists,” American officials could be “unintentionally portraying terrorists, who lack moral and religious legitimacy, as brave fighters, legitimate soldiers or spokesmen for ordinary Muslims.”

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is refusing to identify the “influential Muslim Americans” and “leading U.S.-based scholars and commentators on Islam” who met with Secretary Michael Chertoff in helping shape a softer approach to government lexicon about terrorists and their ideological motivations.

DHS and the State Department’s Counterterrorism Communications Center each issued reports urging government employees to avoid words like “jihad,” “mujahedeen” or any reference to Islam or Muslims, especially in relation to Al Qaeda.

the memos say a change in language from the U.S. government is needed to win the hearts and minds of moderate Muslims and avoid glamorizing terrorists motivated by religious ideology. “Moderate” is also frowned upon in the memos, though, with “mainstream” or “traditional” suggested as replacements.

Among the recommendations not reported previously:

So America, after serving for more than two centuries the sanctuary for huddled masses yearning to breathe free, is being asked to minimize liberty against fanatics bent on a global religious state. The memo doesn’t offer examples to show where Islam and secular democracy have reinforced each other, or explain how Shariah law, the imposition of religion into state affairs, is “fully compatible” with secular democracy.
It is no surprise, however, to see the changes praised by the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC)…

ANGRY Muslim groups (are there any other ones?) have attacked the University of Western Sydney over an Islamic studies course they claim is too sexually explicit, promotes lesbianism and derides the Koran as misogynistic. (which it is…)

 Students, community members and the Australian National Imams Council have complained about the content of the course, Women in Arabic and Islamic Literature, being taught at the National Centre of Excellence for Islamic Studies. They say it gives a negative view of women in Islam. (and we, the kuffar, are forbidden to have ‘any negative views about anything Islamic)

The imams council has circulated a petition recording its “deep concern with regards to the course structure and content”, saying it involved “repeated and unjustified attacks upon Islam”.    (* Another attack on free speech to elevate Islam over and above everything else…)

Another group, Muslims for Peace, has branded the centre as “evil” and demanded lecturer Samar Habib be dismissed and the course abolished.

“Now that its wicked nature should be crystal clear for all to see, Muslims should fear Almighty Allah and break all connections with this diabolical centre of Kufr (non-believers),” a bulletin on the Muslims for Peace website reads.

Dr Habib has declined to comment. UWS executive dean of the College of Arts Wayne McKenna said that, although the university was yet to receive a direct complaint, it was examining the content of the course.

The NCEIS, set up last year with federal government funds, operates out of three universities: the University of Melbourne, Griffith University in Queensland and UWS. It was established to advance knowledge and understanding of Islam and to play a leadership role in public debate on contemporary Islam.

The course includes excerpts from The Perfumed Garden by Sheik Nafzawi, a book on Arabian erotica written in the 16th century and translated into English in 1886 that has been likened to the Indian Kama Sutra.

Dr Habib, who has written her PhD thesis on female homosexuality in the Middle East and has written an introduction in an erotic lesbian novel published overseas entitled I Am You, has been accused of promoting lesbianism. (Muslims are always quick to denounce anyone critical of their cult)

Homosexuality is forbidden in the Koran for both sexes. (sez who? For males, yes. But the Koran says nothing about women)

Dr Habib has also been accused by Muslims for Peace of teaching that it is not obligatory to wear the hijab, that the Hadiths (sayings of the Prophet Mohammed) are just Chinese whispers and that Muslim scholars can be ignored because they are males.

* So  a Muslim who thinks its not obligatory to wear hijab is being attacked by the ‘peace-people?’ Interesting…

University of Melbourne’s Sultan of Oman professor of Arab and Islamic studies, Abdullah Saeed, said concerns about the course had been raised at the centre’s community consultative committee meeting this week.

“Everyone has a right to express their opinion and views and that is what is happening,” Professor Saeed said.

“One of the essential things is to uphold academic freedoms and intellectual freedoms of students and the staff.”

The imams council does not believe the course represents the normative traditional Islam as practised by most of the world’s Muslim population.

“The subject’s emphasis on sexuality and its explicit sexual content is not reflective of normative Islam, which is what we thought the National Centre of Excellence for Islamic Studies would attempt to portray,” ANIC president Sheik Moez Nafti wrote.

In India, the University of Ranchi in Jharkhand state had to cancel its post-graduation history paper on Thursday, after thousands of Muslims took to the streets protesting against a reference to the Prophet Mohammed, which they said was derogatory.

The university Vice Chancellor cancelled the paper after studying the history paper question which caused some Muslim organisations to march and ransack university offices.
The police had to use force to control the mob.

Later, a delegation of socio-religious organizations met DC Avinash Kumar and SSP M S Bhatia demanding inquiry into the lathicharge and arrest of those who hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims by posing such an inflammatory question. An FIR was lodged after receiving the specific complaint and the police also ordered an inquiry into the lathicharge.

University officials cancelled the history exam and formed a panel to probe the matter following the fracas. Vice chancellor A A Khan said the question-setter was solely responsible for the disturbance. “Since the questions were set by Patna University, we are writing a letter to its vice chancellor asking him to act against the question setter,” he said….

That will bear watching.

New Mexico: FBI nabs 10 illegals from “certain countries are associated with special national security concerns”

Hmm. Now what countries might those be? Might this story have any resemblance to this one?

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – FBI agents on Wednesday busted 10 people they termed “special interest illegal aliens” for allegedly trying to use fraudulent documents to get New Mexico drivers licenses.
A Motor Vehicle Division employee alerted police several weeks ago about what the employee believed to be a fraudulent attempt to get a license, according to an FBI news release.

Albuquerque police called the FBI, which worked with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement to investigate the incident.

The investigation showed that several New Mexico residents had allegedly been fabricating proof of residence documents to allow people from out of the country to obtain authentic licenses.

The FBI said the New Mexico residents were themselves illegal immigrants.

While the FBI isn’t saying which countries the 10 came from, the news release said “certain countries are associated with special national security concerns,” and that using the term “special interest alien” depends on which a given person is from….
