100,000 'Palestinian refugees' set to march toward northern border

 satellite.jpeg

More than 100,000 Palestinian refugees living in Lebanon are expected to march toward the border with Israel on May 14 in the context of the Palestinian Authority’s plan to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Israel, PA officials told The Jerusalem Post Thursday.

The PA leadership has, meanwhile, announced that it would boycott any world leader who arrived in Israel to participate in the anniversary celebrations.

* Good grief! That hurts: as if anyone had anything to lose from a Pali ‘boycott!

‘The officials said the boycott would be a temporary action, adding that the Palestinians would not receive the guests in the Palestinian territories during their visits to Israel.

The PA ambassador to Beirut, Zaki Abbas, has been working in the past few weeks to recruit refugees from various refugee camps throughout Lebanon for the march.

Fatah’s top representative in Lebanon, Sultan Abu Aynain, has also been instrumental in organizing the event, the Post has learned.

The two have been coordinating their efforts with PA Deputy Minister for Prisoners Affairs, Ziad Abu Ein, who has drawn up a plan calling on Palestinian refugees to “invade” Israel by land, air and sea in protest against Israel’s anniversary celebrations.

The breakthrough that did not happen

* The far left Haaretz whines about Israelis having to kill  an invading mob of Pals…

Clear Israeli orders to shoot the invading mob.

That’s the answer.

Here is a classic example of the deterrent power of a clear position
presented in a way that leaves no doubt:
A young man from Beit Hanoun told me on the eve of the “breakthrough” that
wasn’t: “We know the army will shoot to kill, and that is why no one will
take the risk.”

Amira Hass writes: “The correct question is not whether and how the
Palestinians are prepared to be killed but rather to what extent we Israelis
are prepared to kill.”

The answer on Sunday February 24, 2008 – that prevented violence – was
“Israelis are prepared to kill as many Palestinians as it will take to stop
them from invading.”]

Israel Defense Forces confirmed the airstrike.

The person killed was the deputy commander of the Islamic Jihad military wing, according to the Palestinian sources, who said he also served as a school headmaster at a United Nations Relief and Works Agency school.

UNRWA spokesman Chris Gunnes said he could not immediately confirm that the person was employed by the United Nations, and added that staff members who bring politics into U.N. institutions are fired immediately for violating staff rules.

The IDF has in the past targeted metal shops it said were being used to produce rockets.

Drive against Muslim judges in Denmark

Denmark’s far-right People’s Party will launch a newspaper campaign against judges wearing Muslim headscarves in court on Thursday, a spokesman said.

”There is no way we will accept this symbol of tyranny,” party spokesman Soeren Espersen said.

Three DDP party ads printed in Thursday’s newspapers were to show Muslim women dressed as judges and wearing various veils, along with the words: ”The country will be built on Sharia (Islamic) law.”

”The Muslim law is the symbol of women’s submission. This is not about ’30 grams of fabric’ but about tyranny and submission. And you as a citizen must accept to come before a judge in court dressed in the veil of tyranny. Stop it now!” the text added.

The DPP is a parliamentary ally of Denmark’s centre-right coalition government.

Muslim magistrates were authorised to wear a headscarf in courtrooms back in December, but the media only revealed the decision recently, causing a public outcry.

Justice Minister Lene Espersen said a government panel which had taken up the issue on Wednesday had decided to set up a committee to compare the Danish situation with that prevailing in other countries.

”I totally disagree with the juridical administration on the veil,” she said, adding that the decision could be invalidated by a new law.

New rules would refer to all religious symbols – including Christian crosses as well as Muslim headscarves – that could challenge the neutrality of the courts, she said.

“Islam & Christianity don’t mix” – 84 Danish priests smell the coffee

Denmark: Priests reject comparison between Christianity and Islam

84 priests in the Danish church wrote an open letter, about the contrasts between Islam and Christianity.  They say the two religions don’t have much in common.  The letter follows a letter written by the Danish Church Council in response to a ‘call for dialog’ from Muslim organizations.

* There is never any ‘dialog’- only da’awa: ‘Inviting’ the kuffar to accept Islam, which is the ‘only religion’…

The parish priests stress that Christians and Muslims don’t talk about the same God.  The signatories think that the council’s letter had gone too far concerning the theological and ethical bands between Christianity and Islam, and say that the two religions are rather opposites of each other.

Theologist Katrine Winkel Holm and parish priest Jesper Bacher, both members of the Islam-critical Network (Islamkritisk Netværk), were the initiators of the new open letter.  There are different opinions on coexistence between Christianity and Islam among Danish theologists.  The signatories on the new letter come from across the religious spectrum.

Morten Kvist, member of the Danish Ethics Council, says that he doesn’t think any theological connection between Christianity and Islam.  He says it will be good if Muslim clerics could show which parts of the Koran don’t legitimize violence, but stresses that differences in religion don’t mean that it’s impossible to talk together.

Carsten Vang, professor at the Lutheran School of Theology in Aarhus, says that in the debate about the relationship between Islam and Christianity it’s important to clearly say where they speak, and must speak, differently.  He says that he knows from his many trips that Christians suffer in many places in the Middle East.  He doubts it when Muslim clerics present Islam as a religion of peace, when they openly approve of persecuting and killing Muslims who convert to Christianity.   He signed the letter because it brought up that aspect.

112 priests have signed up to the Islam Critical Network.

Philippino Jihad: The Situation Is Getting Worse

MILF blames govt for crisis in peace talks

* It is NEVER the jihadists who are to blame. Because they’re fighting in Allah’s way…

* No wonder: concessions to the Moro’s, the Muslim separatists in Mindanao, are always seen as weakness and embolden the jihadists. A separate Muslim homeland will never lead to a political settlement, it will only encourage the ‘Mujaheddin’ to conquer all of the Philippines, in the way of Allah:

Military reports on the ground said Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon (above) was shot in the hand when troops attacked early on Wednesday, but he managed to flee into a jungle-clad mountainous area.

Abu Sayyaf leader wounded, son killed in Philippine offensive

JOLO – A LEADER of the militant Abu Sayyaf group was wounded and his son was among several killed in a major Philippine military offensive in troubled southern Jolo island, an official said on Thursday.
Military reports on the ground said Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon was shot in the hand when troops attacked early on Wednesday, but he managed to flee into a jungle-clad mountainous area.

His son, Tabari, also an Abu Sayyaf guerrilla, was ‘fatally wounded in the head and abdomen,’ regional military spokesman Major Eugene Batara said.

The offensive led to the capture of a sprawling Abu Sayyaf camp in a remote Jolo town, where they were said to be training and assembling bombs with members of the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), the Al-Qaeda’s Southeast Asian arm.

The rebels incurred ‘heavy casualties,’ the military said, without giving an actual body count.

Hapilon is the last of two surviving leaders of the Abu Sayyaf who engineered daring kidnapping raids and bombing attacks early in the decade.

The US government has offered a US$5 million (S$6.7 million) reward for his capture.

The other elusive Abu Sayyaf leader Abu Pula has a 100,000 dollar bounty on his head.

The Abu Sayyaf is a small gang of Islamic militants that once directly received funding from Al-Qaeda, but has since degenerated into a criminal gang specialising in kidnapping, extortion and bombings.

* Hmm. Isn’t that what Muhammad, the Islamic ‘prophet’ was doing? Could it be that these people follow his teachings which they call “religion?”

Security experts say it has in recent years developed an alliance with the JI, a radical grouping pushing for an Islamic caliphate across Southeast Asia.

* But but but: haven’t we just been told that Jemmah Islamiyah doesn’t exist and can’t be banned by  Indonesia’s interior minister?

The JI has been blamed for the region’s worst terrorist attacks in recent years, including a 2002 night club attack that killed 202 people in Bali, Indonesia.

Two of JI’s top bomb experts, Dulmatin and Umar Patek, are believed to be somewhere in the south of the Philippines.

The military initially reported Dulmatin was killed in a clash early this year, but Indonesian authorities have said DNA tests on the remains proved inconclusive. — AFP

Update:

MILF expels Christians from farms in Philippines

Muslim rebels have forced hundreds of mainly Christian families off their farms in the southern Philippines, escalating tensions in the region ahead of the withdrawal of Malaysian peace monitors next week. Rolando Garcia, mayor of Kalamansig town on the troubled southern island of Mindanao, said that heavily-armed members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) claimed the farmers’ land belonged to the Muslim minority.

Philippines must move to restart peace talks with Muslim group, Malaysian mediator says

Othman said Manila’s insistence on the constitutional issue was “a constraint.”

“It really boils down to the political will of the government,” he said. “If the government wants the talks to progress, it can do it. It can think creatively. But if it wants to stick to the constitution, things will not move.”

Update:

Muslim rebels in the Philippines withdraw from village, allow Christians to return

* Seems to be a tactical move to gain a strategic advantage in the long term. Obviously, the MILF’s can take it back anytime:

MANILA, Philippines: Muslim separatist rebels withdrew from a southern Philippine village and allowed about 1,000 Christian farmers to return after tensions flared over a land dispute, a military official said Monday.

Moro Islamic Liberation Front guerrillas entered the village in Sultan Kudarat province last Wednesday demanding food, confiscating rice and sending Christian residents fleeing, Mayor Rolando Garcia said.

Rebel spokesman Eid Kabalu said the occupation occurred because of competing claims to the land, but the action had not been approved by rebel leaders.

About 300 rebels withdrew over the weekend following talks with the provincial government, said Col. Danilo Garcia, a regional military commander.

“It’s all about a land conflict,” he said, adding the rebels claimed that Christian settlers had no right to be there.

* Actually NOT. Its to establish Islam as the only religion. Infidels have no right to live anywhere on this earth except as Dhimmies, subjugated peoples, in slavelike conditions. Stay tuned: looks like they’re getting there…

Jewish rabbis -whatever they are  call for dismantling Israel – Qaradawi  delighted!

By Anwar Elshamy

TWO Jewish rabbis yesterday called for a peaceful end of Israel saying that the existence of the “Israeli state” was contradictory to the Jewish law.
Speaking at a meeting with the Doha-based Muslim scholar Sheikh Yousuf al-Qaradawi, rabbis Ahron Cohen and Yisroel Dovid Weiss, who are activists at the Neturei Karta, a group known for its opposition to the establishment of Israel, said that the creation of Israel “was a heresy made up by the Zionists to undermine the true Jewish life”.
“Theodor Herzel and his friends were just heretics. They are the worst enemy for the true Jews. According to the Torah, Jews are forbidden to have a state. All Jews should refuse the existence of the so-called state of Israel which tarnished our image. We will not lose hope and dream of dismantling the state of Israel,” said Weiss who called on Qaradawi at his house in Doha.
The UK-based Cohen also called for peaceful dismantlement of what he described as the “Zionist state” which he said “triggered tension and conflict in the region” since it was established.
“We should draw a distinction between the Zionism and Judaism. Zionism is a political movement which exploited and misled Jews and undermined the Jewish life and spirituality. I believe that the current tension in the Middle East can disappear overnight once the superpowers agreed to dismantle the Zionist state,” he said.
About the current situation in the Palestinian territory, Weiss blamed Zionism for the “bloodshed” in the region saying that it was the root of all the evil in the region since the establishment of Israel.
“Our hearts are bleeding for the atrocities committed against the Palestinians. It is a double tragedy both for them and us. We know that Jews and Muslims used to live together peacefully for centuries when the Muslim world was a safe haven for the Jews who fled from Spain. At that time, there were no human rights groups. However, we lived together peacefully,” he said.
Qaradawi, who is the head of the International Union of the Muslim scholars (IUMS), hailed the stances of Cohen and Weiss on Zionism as “true” saying that both Jews and Christians should be closer to Muslims than any other nations.
“Muslims have no problems at all with the Jews themselves. Our main conflict is with the Zionist movement. I hope that the Neturei Karta can introduce its stance to the Arab media so that people can know that there is a big segment of Jews opposing the Zionist entity.”
The rabbis of the Neturei Karta, who introduced themselves as Jews but not Zionists” also voiced their opposition for the proposed naming of Israel as “Jewish state”.
“Zionists have stolen all our symbols. Now they name their state a Jewish state though they are not Jews at all. We should not mistake them for Jews.”

Death row Bali bomber Amrozi to marry again

* Anger in KRuddistan:

Anger in Australia … Bali bomber Amrozi has been given permission to marry.

 * Thanks to Rosie

HE is about to be executed for his role in the Bali bombings but smiling assassin Amrozi has won approval for a death row wedding service – despite being already married to another woman.

In the latest perverse act of compassion from the Indonesian authorities, the man who faces death for the murder of 202 people, including 88 Australians, will enjoy a private wedding ceremony inside his cell.

The man believed to be marrying the couple is radical cleric Abu Bakar Bashir, who has visited Amrozi in jail and who attended one of his previous marriage ceremonies.

Amrozi will remarry his first wife, whom he divorced more than 20 years ago, while remaining married to his current wife.

The decision has been attacked by the Rudd Government and condemned by families of the Bali bombing victims.

The protests are unlikely to sway Jakarta, with authorities confirming Amrozi has a right to marry, but will not be allowed a honeymoon or conjugal visit.

* Don’t bet on it…

Amrozi’s brothers were claiming no knowledge of his upcoming nuptials, set for May 12, however lawyers and jail officials confirmed the union and the date.

The 45-year-old former village mechanic-turned-terrorist killer will remarry Siti Rohma, with whom he has a 20-year-old son. The couple first married in 1985 and divorced just two years later. Lawyer Achmad Michdan, who visited his client in jail, said the identity of the preacher who would marry and bless the couple was being kept a “secret” however talk suggested it could be Abu Bakar Bashir.

And Amrozi’s older and more fiery brother Mukhlas, who is on death row with him and who is a preacher, is expected to give the main sermon at the wedding ceremony.

*  Serious delusions in the land of smiles; an editor of  The Nation  wants to paint a real big pussy on your cheek:

“Washington appears to have decided its way of describing Muslims was counterproductive…”

It is better late than never, but the US government is coming around to its senses with its introduction of a new set of guidelines for its officials and diplomats – specifically, about what to say or not to say – in the global war on terrorism.

According to a recent document obtained by The Associated Press, the US government is telling its people not to describe Islamic extremists as “jihadists” or “mujahedeen”. Language like “Islamo-fascism” is also out.

One wondered why nobody has thought of this before but the reason is pretty simple. These politically incorrect words may actually boost support for radicals among Arab and Muslim audiences by giving them a veneer of religious credibility, or by causing offence to moderates.

Take the overused word, “jihad”, for example; general understanding of the word is “holy war”. For Muslims, it is a broader Islamic concept of the struggle to do good.

Griffith's "Islamic Research Doctor" Abdalla sez he will not return the $100,000 grant and will not rule out accepting unsolicited Saudi funds in the future

Islam ‘scholar’ ends Saudi cash chase (for now)

Jill Rowbotham and Richard Kerbaj  / The Australian

*  Deliberate misinterpretation or comprehension problems?

GRIFFITH University’s Muslim scholar Mohamad Abdalla has vowed not to “chase” any more Saudi government funds and admitted that accepting money from Riyadh was not a good look for his Queensland institution.

* But yesterday he said the same thing only to contradict himself by saying that he will get Saudi funding when no one is  looking. So which one is it?

dr-mohammed-abdallathumbnail11.jpg

Dr Abdalla, who helped Griffith University obtain a $100,000 Saudi embassy grant for his Islamic Research Unit, yesterday also praised a controversial Islamic group, which has a Brisbane arm, but said he was not its leader.

Queensland’s Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson last night intervened to support the Islamic scholar, who, The Australian revealed last week, had in 2006 sought $1.37 million from the Saudi embassy and offered to keep elements of the deal secret.

Mr Atkinson praised Dr Abdalla for engaging with the authorities and promoting harmony between Brisbane’s Muslims and the rest of the community.

* Sure. That should be normal. But does that mean Islam-critics like Ayaan Ali Hirsi, Wafa Sultan, Taslima Nasreen or Salman Rushdie are safe from Muslim attacks in Australia?

He dismissed Dr Abdalla’s links to Tablighi Jamaat, whose overseas members have been linked to al-Qa’ida and the 2005 London bombings, saying the Griffith academic was a role model for young Muslim men.

“His stance, from what I have seen of him, is in terms of being a moderate person, a sensible person, a person who encourages the Islamic community to engage with the broader Australian community,” Mr Atkinson said.

* Just wait and see, Mr. Atkinson. As soon as these “moderates” gain strength in numbers you will see some changes you won’t like.

(He) works extremely well with youth and has a very positive influence on youth.”

Mr Atkinson said Dr Abdalla had encouraged young Muslims to join Queensland’s police force.

*  Mr. Atkinson: how will Muslims in the police force handle rape cases when the perp is a Muslim? Any idea?

toon112906.gif

*  Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing

Dr Abdalla admitted that if the Saudi embassy were to approve the remaining $1.27 million in funding sought by Griffith, he would advise the university against accepting it.

“I would say: no, don’t take the money,” he said.

Dr Abdalla, the director of Griffith’s Islamic Research Unit, played down accusations that the Saudi grant would influence the university’s agenda.

“(The argument) that Saudi money would affect us is farcical,” he said.

“I will not chase them – Saudi or non-Saudi.

“We would like to be seen as doing work that is not going to be influenced.”

* Da’awa…

Asked if he accepted that receiving Saudi funding was a bad look for the university, Dr Abdalla said: “Yes, it is”.

He said he would not return the $100,000 grant and would not rule out accepting unsolicited Saudi funds in the future.

The Australian yesterday revealed that Muslim leader Fadi Rahman, who is close to Dr Abdalla, said the academic was the leader of the Tablighi in Brisbane.

* Why would he not tell the truth in this case?

Experts say the group’s non-violent teachings about the importance of the afterlife had left some of its young followers susceptible to recruitment as suicide bombers.

* What…? Read this sentence again. That doesn’t make sense…

*
Dr Abdalla denied he was the leader of the Tablighi in Brisbane. However, he was sympathetic to its ideals and the group was represented at the Kuraby Mosque – in Brisbane’s southeast – where he is one of the leaders.

* So he is not the leader, but he is one of the leaders…???

Queensland District Court judge Clive Wall last week accused Griffith University of becoming an “agent” through which the Saudi embassy was propagating hardline Islam.

* Dr Abdalla refused to answer questions about his connection with the Tablighi when interviewed by The Australian, except to say membership of the group was not controversial.

* Jihad body linked to top university

He also compared Griffith to Pakistan’s madrassas, which are notorious for breeding radicals.

When Vice-Chancellor Ian O’Connor defended the university’s pursuit of Saudi funding in an opinion article published in The Australian last week, he came under fire for using Wikipedia as a source of his material and for his confused interpretation of Islam.

Ameer Ali, our ‘moderate Muslim’ advisor:

Ameer Ali  warned of the dangers of the radicalisation of Muslim university students, saying these students should be critical of everything they are told by secretive Islamic groups.

Howard government adviser Ameer Ali says an “educational revolution” is needed, with students taught to challenge ideologies espoused by hardline groups such as Tablighi Jamaat and Hizb ut-Tahrir, without fear of being ostracised.

“This revolution in modern education has become all the more urgent in the light of competing and dangerous ideologies that … capture the hearts and minds of vulnerable sectors of disgruntled communities,” he says.

“Until the West embraces these progressive educational measures, TJ and HT will continue to thrive and their followers will continue to become fodder for jihadist and martyrdom operators.”

There has been widespread concern that groups such as Tablighi Jamaat and Hizb ut-Tahrir are recruiting on university campuses.
