This afternoon Udo Ulfkotte, the German co-organizer of the anti-Islamization demonstration in Brussels on 11 September, called off the demonstration, which earlier was banned by the Brussels authorities. During the past weeks Ulfkotte claimed that he would bring 20,000 demonstrators to the Belgian and European capital. On his website he announced today that the demo will not take place for security reasons since “extremists prepared to use violence can abuse the demonstration for violent actions.”

The Danish and British co-organizers have immediately expelled Ulfkotte from SIOE (Stop the Islamization of Europe) and say his decision to cancel the demo is “unilateral.” They announce that the demo will go ahead as planned. Anders Gravers, the Danish co-president of SIOE, who was in Brussels today, was told by the Brussels authorities that there may be “terrorist attacks against the demo.” According to the Danish and British SIOE branches the news that there will be a terrorist attack in Brussels is “the final desperate tactic from the authorities” to prevent the demonstration from taking place.

So far Belgium has never been the scene of Muslim terrorism, although Islamists frequently use the country as a logistical support base for actions elsewhere. The Madrid train bombings of 11 March 2004 were planned in Belgium. It has even been suggested that the Belgian authorities have struck a deal with Islamist terrorists, agreeing to turn a blind eye to conspiracies hatched on Belgian soil in exchange for immunity from attack. In a statement from GIA, the Algerian section of al-Qaeda, addressing the Belgian King Albert II but posted to the French embassy in Brussels in June 1999, the Algerian terror movement explicitly referred to such a deal.

This makes it very unlikely that there will be a terrorist attack in Brussels next Tuesday. Unless the Islamists regard an anti-Islamization demonstration in Brussels, even though banned by the Brussels authorities, as a unilateral breach of the deal by the Belgians.

Court Case Drags On. Police Seems Willing to Tolerate Anti-Islamization Demo

The strategy of the Belgian authorities might simply be to drag the case out in order to make it difficult for the organizers to make arrangements for their demonstration. As things now stand the demonstration is still illegal.

The Brussels police are nervous because, despite the Arab European League’s official statement that its Muslim gangs will not counterdemonstrate, Muslim groups are rallying their members to do just that.

BERLIN —  German authorities were searching Thursday for about 10 suspected supporters of an Islamic group linked to Al Qaeda believed to have assisted three militants arrested for plotting imminent attacks against Americans in Germany, an official said.

An unidentified man, in handcuffs, believed to be a terror suspect, is led away at the German Federal Court in Karlsruhe.

Authorities believed “some 10” further suspects provided support to the two German converts and a Turkish citizen who were arrested Tuesday, August Hanning, a top security official, told the ARD broadcaster.

“This is the network that we are aware of at the moment,” Hanning said, adding that authorities believe the splintered cell — which includes more converted Germans, Turks and other citizens — no longer poses a direct security threat.

The three arrested suspects had military-style detonators and enough material to make bombs more powerful than those that killed 191 people in Madrid in 2004 and 52 commuters in London two years ago, prosecutors said Wednesday.

“We were able to succeed in recognizing and preventing the most serious and massive bombings,” German Federal Prosecutor Monika Harms said at a news conference Wednesday. She declined to name specific targets.

In Washington, a senior U.S. State Department official said German investigators had determined the Frankfurt International Airport and the nearby U.S. Ramstein Air Base were the primary targets of the plot, but that those arrested may have also been considering strikes on other sites, particularly facilities associated with the U.S.

If you want peace, prepare for war.” Thus counseled Roman general Flavius Vegetius Renatus over 1,600 years ago. Nine centuries before that, Sun Tzu offered essentially the same advice, and it’s to him that Vegetius’s line is attributed at the beginning of a film that I saw recently at Oslo’s Nobel Peace Center. Yet the film cites this ancient wisdom only to reject it. After serving up a perverse potted history of the cold war, the thrust of which is that the peace movement brought down the Berlin Wall, the movie ends with words that turn Vegetius’s insight on its head: “If you want peace, prepare for peace.”

This purports to be wise counsel, a motto for the millennium. In reality, it’s wishful thinking that doesn’t follow logically from the history of the cold war, or of any war. For the cold war’s real lesson is the same one that Sun Tzu and Vegetius taught: conflict happens; power matters. It’s better to be strong than to be weak; you’re safer if others know that you’re ready to stand up for yourself than if you’re proudly outspoken about your defenselessness or your unwillingness to fight. There’s nothing mysterious about this truth. Yet it’s denied not only by the Peace Center film but also by the fast-growing, troubling movement that the center symbolizes and promotes.

Call it the Peace Racket.

Police have smashed a suspected al Qaeda terror cell nursing a “profound hatred of US citizens” plotting to bomb civilian and military jets.
The force of the planned explosions would have been worse than the train bombings in Madrid and the Tube and bus attacks in London on 7 July, 2005, according to German security sources. Those attacks killed 191 and 52 people respectively.

Three men aged 22, 28 and 29 have been arrested in Germany days before they planned to strike, and bomb-making equipment and explosives have been seized.

The arrests come a day after Danish police conducted raids and took eight young Muslims into custody whom they suspect of plotting a bomb attack and having links with al Qaeda. No direct link has yet been established between the two plots.

Federal prosecutor Monika Harms said the three suspects had bought 700kg (1,500lbs) of hydrogen peroxide to make massive bombs. She said: “We have prevented what we believe would have been the worst terror attacks ever on German soil”.

She declined to name specific targets but said the suspects had an eye on institutions and establishments frequented by Americans in Germany, including discos, pubs and airports.

I was sure that some German leaders would stand up and say, “My fellow Germans, we know a Hitler when we see one, and Saddam Hussein is one.” But no German stood up to say this. Instead one of your leaders compared the American president to Hitler.

I was sure that some German leaders would stand up and say, “My fellow Germans, we know genocidal anti-Semitism when we see it, and we see it in the Arab world.” But no German leader stood up to say this either.

Few of us expected anything from the French. From the Jacobins and the guillotine, to the Dreyfus trial, to the Vichy regime, to de Gaulle’s withdrawal from anti-Communist NATO, France, with rare exceptions, has done little that is moral and nothing that is courageous. So the disdain that many Americans have long felt for France has merely been reinforced.

But I think that I speak in the name of many Americans in saying that we expected more of you. Because of what we did for you after World War II and during the Cold War. Because you, of all people, know that Americans are a decent people. And especially because of your experience with evil. How could you have produced a Hitler and not recognize another one just one generation later? How could you know firsthand about torture chambers and children’s screams and not ache to end them in another country? How could you side with amoral France against your friend America?

There is, it would seem, only one answer. Nazism taught you nothing. Instead of learning that evil must be fought, you learned that fighting is evil.

German Chair of of IPPNW Describes 9/11 Terror Attacks as “Airplane Accidents”

The Chairwoman of the German branch of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) – Angelika Claussen – was recently interviewed on “Kulturzeit” a program on the German state-sponsored television channel “3sat”.

When asked to comment on the danger of nuclear terrorism, Claussen refers to the 9/11 terror attacks on the World Trade Center as “airplane accidents” and “airplane crashes.” The exchange was brought to our attention by German blogger David Harnasch and can be viewed below (with English subtitles):

It is interesting to note (in what can only be described as journalistic malpractice) that the interviewer – Dieter Moor – does not challenge or so much as question Ms. Claussen’s outrageous characterizations of the attacks on the World Trade Center buildings as “airplane accidents” and “airplane crashes.” Instead, he continues on – completely unperturbed by Claussen’s twisted references to the 9/11 terror attacks – and concludes by thanking her for the “outstanding discussion”

Brussels Journal: “Undercover in Little Morocco” is the name of a book written by the young Flemish journalist Hind Fraihi. She spent two months researching undercover among radical Muslims in Brussels. Among her shocking findings was the revelation that younger Muslims in particular are increasingly prone to violence, and not just in the cities.

“Many police officers are afraid that the State no longer wields authority here — at least not the sole authority. They know that Islamists view Molenbeek as subject only to Muslim law.”

Another official said members of Germany’s elite GSG-9 anti-terrorist unit arrested two suspects at a holiday home in central Germany yesterday.

The third managed to escape through a bathroom window, but was apprehended about 300 metres away by federal police who had roped off the area.

The three men, two Germans aged 22 and 28, and a Turk aged 29, had no steady work and were drawing unemployment benefits while their main occupation was the plot, officials said.

German and US officials have warned of the possibility of a terrorist attack, and security measures have been increased.

Germany, which did not send troops to Iraq, has largely been spared terrorist attacks like the train and subway bombings in Madrid and London – although its involvement in the attempt to stabilise Afghanistan against Islamic insurgents has led to fears it might be targeted.

In July 2006 two gas bombs were placed on commuter trains but did not explode.

Officials said that attack was motivated by anger over cartoons portraying the Prophet Mohammed in a Danish newspaper. Several suspects are on trial in Lebanon, and a Lebanese man has been charged in Germany.

Frankfurt airport is continental Europe’s busiest, and the air base at Ramstein is a major transport hub for US military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

 Spiegel: Three Islamist Terror Suspects Arrested in Germany

According to information obtained by SPIEGEL ONLINE, the three men were Daniel S. from the state of Saarland and Fritz G. from Neu-Ulm in Bavaria, both of whom are German converts to Islam, as well as Adem Y., who is believed to be from Turkey. The three, who had apparently founded a terrorist cell, have been under intensive investigation for several months. All three men were considered radical Islamists and had contact with Islamist groups in Germany and Pakistan.

Prisoners of War Alliance has asked the Motion Picture Association of America to revoke the Oscar awarded to a Bosnian Muslim film maker Danis Tanovic who’s film No Man’s Land, according to the allegations, shows Serb victims as Muslims victimized by Serb violence.

Serbian survivors of Bosnian Muslim concentration camps say that they discovered the fraud while recording a documentary film on Muslim atrocities in the area of Gornje Podrinje where thousands of Serbs were massacred by Bosnian Muslim forces.

Veljko Lasica, an ethic Serb survivor of a Muslim attack that killed 25 Serb civilians in Kukavice, says that Tanovic used that particular incident to claim in the movie that the killed Serb civilians were Muslims.
“It is never too late to uncover fabricated war lies and get to the truth so it is with this amazing film-fraud that is compromising the prestigious Oscar, that was pointed to us by the Serb survivors of Gorazde concentration camp that live now abroad,” says Lasica.

BEIRUT (Reuters) – Lebanon said on Tuesday its army killed at least 222 Islamist militants from an al Qaeda-linked group in a 15-week battle at a Palestinian refugee camp in northern Lebanon.

The army finally took control of the Nahr al-Bared refugee camp on Sunday after more than three months of fierce battles, including air, sea and land bombardment against the entrenched Fatah al-Islam militants.

Defense Minister Elias al-Murr also said 202 militants were captured in the battles and an unknown number were buried in mass graves inside the largely destroyed camp. …

At least 42 civilians and 163 soldiers were killed, bringing the death toll to 427 — Lebanon’s worst internal violence since the 1975-1990 civil war.

September 4, 2007: The Taliban Summer Offensive actually turned out to be larger than last years, but was much less effective. Nearly 3,000 people died, about 20 percent more than last year and, as with last year, most of them Taliban fighters. But over 500 of the dead were civilians, most the victims of Taliban terrorism. Unlike last year, there were far fewer civilians actively assisting the Taliban. This year, the big players were the drug gangs, and tribal groups that are heavily into the heroin trade. They have the money the Taliban lack, and pay for the thousands of Taliban gunmen let loose to defend the drug producing areas around Kandahar. This city has long been the capital of “Talibanstan”, mainly because it is in the midst of the area where the most pro-Taliban Pushtun tribes reside.

September 3, 2007: A Taliban district headquarters and safe house was attacked by a U.S./Afghan force, leaving at least 25 Taliban, including several leaders, dead. Since the Taliban disbanded their centralized military command this Summer, the district leaders have become more important. Some of the district leaders have been more successful than others. Several of these leaders operate around Kandahar, and they are now prime targets for police and foreign troops. The fighting has been particularly tough on the police, who have lost about 500 men this year. When the Taliban are run out of an area, a small force of police goes in to “hold” the area. But in rural areas of Afghanistan, police are an exotic foreign import. For thousands of years, tribal councils take care of police investigations, and groups of armed tribesmen mete out a rough form of justice. Police are seen as targets by many tribesmen, a potential source of loot. This is particularly the case in southern Afghanistan, where some Pushtun tribes resent the central government a whole lot.
