An ‘Unholy War’ Against Muslims?

One of the terrible features of our world is how globalisation can bring the worst of international conflict to our doorsteps. Lee Rigby, a British soldier wearing a ‘Help for Heroes’ shirt, was murdered by a man who claimed to be acting in retaliation for attacks on women and children in ‘Muslim countries’ (though people have religion, not countries).

An innocent man died in a peaceful part of London. A religion – which explicitly tells its followers not to start wars or attack the innocent – was wrongly implicated in this attack. This connection between religion and murder was comprehensively condemned by numerous Muslim organisations, some of them represented in Woolwich a week later. It took very little time for these organisations to respond, mourn for the victim, show solidarity with his family and the local community, call for peace and show us what Islam should really look like.

Knowing his history and what he was all about, we are better off. Trayvon Martin should not be honored but remembered as a person whose life should be shunned, not honored.

Age can’t accept jury verdict:  a simple case of self defence by a smaller man

Age correspondent Nick O’Malley uses the attempted judicial lynching of George Zimmerman to attack America’s gun laws – pandering to The Age’s pet stereotype of gun-mad white Americans going nuts:: 

People appear to have forgotten that when race first became a factor in this case it was because for six weeks after the shooting Zimmerman was neither arrested nor charged.

In large part this was due to Florida’s so-called Stand Your Ground law, introduced in 2005, which made shooting people dead on that state’s streets far more likely to be legal than it used to be.

As is so often the case Florida was an early adopter of a law being championed by conservative activists, and in this case drafted by the National Rifle Association. Stand Your Ground laws, known by critics as Shoot First laws, extend the so-called castle-doctrine from the home to the street, making it legal to use lethal force against someone in public if you “reasonably” believe yourself to be at significant risk.

In doing so they reverse the onus of proof. Where once someone who had killed a person had to prove they acted in self-defence, under Stand Your Ground the prosecution must prove that the accused did not feel that they were at risk.

Also the laws expressly remove the requirement that once existed in the use of self-defence that a person retreat if given the opportunity. That is, under Stand Your Ground, killing someone in a fight need not be the last option.

And given that the only witnesses to these incidents are often the accused and the person they have just killed, Stand Your Ground is proving quite a handy defence.

How fascinating.

An unsigned article from the Sidney Moonbat Herald  rejoices over Catmeat mufti’s spokesturd Keysar Trad’s censorship of a tiny newspaper that told the truth about Islam.

Keysar Trad, a member of the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils said it was wrong for any newspaper to publish such unattributed lies, especially when the article had no author and it quoted an unnamed source.

“Such publication without evidence creates more division in society. We need our newspapers, small or big, to be more responsible in what they print on their valuable pages,” said Mr Trad.

Then our minders forced us to cover  the killer Elias A. because he was underage. About half an hour later the poster was  confiscated. Reason: after consultation with the Munich Public Prosecutor  the authorities suspected “sedition.”
