ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Two suicide bombers attacked a church packed with worshipers on Sunday in southwestern Pakistan, killing at least eight people and injuring at least 30 others, several critically, officials said.

“Law enforcement agencies have badly failed in protecting common citizens, and minorities in particular,” said Shamaun Alfred Gill, a Christian political and social activist based in Islamabad.

Muslims in Florence who have campaigned for years to be allowed to build a mosque are to be sold land by the Catholic Church.

Cardinal Giuseppe Betori, the Archbishop of Florence, told city officials: “Everyone has a right to a dignified place to practise their own religion.”

The Cardinal is quite wrong on this one. Mohammedans don’t reciprocate any such rights. They should never be given a “dignified place to practise their own religion” behind enemy lines.

On Thursday the government released broad terms of reference for its religious freedom inquiry, headed by former attorney general Philip Ruddock, including the new appointment of University of Queensland constitutional law professor Nicholas Aroney to the five-person panel.

Aroney is an expert on legal pluralism, law and religion who has warned that religious freedom has become a second-class right to anti-discrimination and argued that religious freedom should include a right to practise sharia law within “strictly justifiable limits imposed by the general law”.

The problem with this is that it has so often happened that police deny that some incident is terrorism, and then it turns out to be jihad terror after all. There is also the fact that the Islamic State issued this call in September 2014:

Does that mean that this was a jihad terror attack? Not at all. But unfortunately, given the police’s poor record of honesty in such cases, their denial cannot be taken at face value.

Police break up ugly brawl between groups in Collingwood

There’s been an ugly brawl involving weapons in Collingwood on Friday afternoon.

3AW Drive was alerted to the brawl involving up to 15 people on Hoddle Street by several listeners.HeThey described two groups of African appearance clashing in a park.

It’s believed one person was struck with a baseball bat.

Police arrived and needed to deploy OC spray to bring the situation under control.

No arrests have been made but the investigation is ongoing.

French-Jewish families are being forced from their homes in Paris suburbs as Europe continues to be convulsed by levels of anti-Semitism not seen since the end of the Second World War.

The Paris commuter newspaper 20 Minutes documents an “internal exodus” during 2017 of Jews from the Seine-Saint-Denis department, saying it is emblematic of broader concerns that French Jews, like their brothers and sisters across Europe, are finding it increasingly difficult to reconcile their faith with the changing demographics of the continent.

The paper reports that Jews are leaving their homes on the northeastern fringe of Paris to escape the open hostility that French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe on Sunday condemned as “well-rooted.” The newspaper reports:

This ‘internal exodus’ is difficult to quantify, but it is clear that many synagogues of Seine-Saint-Denis have closed, for lack of people. In Pierrefitte, the rabbi has recorded a 50 percent decline in the congregations since his arrival thirteen years ago. A similar story is told in (nearby) Bondy, where attendance on Yom Kippur (the holiest day of the Jewish calendar) has fallen from about 800 to 400 in the last decade.

The Bondy synagogue president saw a “deteriorating climate” of the last 15 years as driving the exodus, “It’s hard to explain, it’s provocations, it’s looks,” he lamented. “There are places where we do not feel welcome.”
