Mordechai Kedar: Al Jazeera’s deceit exposed. What now, Israel?
The Al Jazeera TV channel first went on the air towards the end of 1996, advertising itself as “Opinion and the Other Opinion,” and purporting to create a new kind of media presence in the Arab world, one that would not simply repeat government propaganda – as did all the other existing government channels. It soon became clear, however, that this channel, which advertised itself as being objective, was infected with very specific agendas, especially with regard to the Muslim Brotherhood and its terrorist offshoots, and most especially when it came to Hamas. In fact, Al Jazeera’s staff is wholeheartedly committed to helping these organizations thrive.
Recently, we were privileged to hear an admission of guilt from the chief newscaster, the first man ever to appear on Al Jazeera’s screen and the man who has the greatest influence on Al Jazeera’s agenda – except for the Emir of Qatar, who funds the channel. He is Jamal Rian, a Jordanian-Palestinian born in Tul Karem. This past December, he appeared on a program called “We are Al Jazeera” in which a broadcaster talks about himself for half an hour, telling the audience about his family, where he was born and raised, his hobbies and professional background.
During Rian’s half hour, he said the following, concerning an interview he conducted with me during the regular news broadcast on June 1, 2008, about eight years ago, the day the government of Israel decided to built a few hundred apartments at Har Homa and Pisgat Ze’ev in the Jerusalem area.

“Mistakenly, there are broadcasting stations that ask me why Al Jazeera hosts Israelis. On the contrary, I am one of those who encourage that. Yes. I feel that when we have an Israeli guest on our news program, he is my prey, and when he presents his narrative, I can refute it. (Note that Rian admits that he does not interview Israelis objectively, but sees them as prey). Al Jazeera is based on ‘Opinion and the Other Opinion,’ but without hearing the other side’s voice, we are unconvincing. Of course, when it comes to the Palestinian problem, I feel that I provide a stage for defending the Palestinian cause.”
“Sometimes, of course, there are personally difficult situations when I am interviewing Israelis (that is, when he doesn’t succeed in ‘devouring’ the Israeli). Let me give you an example (from June 2008): I had a professor from Bar Ilan University, named Mordechai Kedar, and the interview’s objective was to talk about the reasons for continued [Israeli] settlement in the West Bank and settlement expansion in Jerusalem and other places. I posed the question: ‘What’s the point?’ and he answered: ‘Jerusalem belongs to the Jews. Period. It is our capital and has been forever. You Arabs and Muslims [must realize], I was already in Jerusalem when your forefathers drank wine, buried girls alive and worshipped idols. So why should we even discuss it? It has been our city for 3000 years and will be ours forever.’
“(Jamal continues): I said to him: ‘If we want to talk about history, you cannot erase Jerusalem from the Koran.’ Of course, he is a Ph.d. and understands things, like that the name of Jerusalem does not appear in the Koran – really and truly, Jerusalem is not mentioned in the Koran, but Allah came to my aid that moment and I said to him (to Kedar): ‘Glory is to him who made his servant go (Koran, Chap 17:1) mentions El Aksa.'”(But then I [Kedar] stressed once again that Jerusalem is not mentioned in the Koran – even once!).

The significance of these two minutes is that Al Jazeera‘s chief broadcaster has still not recovered from the fact that he did not succeed in “devouring” an interviewed Israeli – me, that is – during a live broadcast. What is interesting is that he remembers entire sentences that were uttered eight years ago, what I said and what he said. It seems that those few minutes were quite traumatic for him.
Why does Israel allow this hostile channel to work from within the country, why allow its reporters to spread anti-Israeli propaganda from within the Knesset?

Alison Bevege v Hizb ut-Tahrir: victory for women and reason
Australian multiculturalism has limits. Islamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir tested them and lost to a freelance journalist who refused to resile.
After being directed to sit behind men at a Hizb ut-Tahrir lecture, Alison Bevege filed a sex discrimination complaint. Last week, it was upheld by the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
This is a victory for freethinkers worldwide and affirms Australia’s place in the enlightened world. But the question must be asked why, in the 21st century, women in the West should need to go to court to fight against being sent to the back of the room six decades after Rosa Parks refused to be sent to the back of the bus.
Hizb ut-Tahrir is one of several Islamist groups in the West reported for sending women to the rear at public events. The Daily Telegraph reported that at a University of Western Sydney lecture by the group, women were ushered through a back door while men were offered front row seats.

In fact, the progressivist elite running this country into the ground, for which Turnbull serves as increasingly inept front man, may have overplayed its hand as it relentlessly pursues its reckless drive to transform Australia into a progressivist utopia. One affront to common sense and common decency has followed another in a ruthless ‘shock and awe’ campaign. This might have been designed to overwhelm opposition but it has proven counter-productive in alienating the conservative vote.

Uruguay has not been in the headlines for anti-Semitic attacks in recent years, but last summer an Uruguayan army bomb squad dismantled an “incomplete” explosive device in front of an office tower housing the Israeli embassy.

BUENOS AIRES — A Jewish man died Tuesday after being stabbed repeatedly in a suspected anti-Semitic attack in Uruguay.
David Fremd, a 54-year-old local businessman, was attacked in the western Uruguayan city of Paysandu, on the border with neighboring Argentina.
One of his three sons was also injured in the attack, but his wounds are reportedly not life-threatening.
Fremd was a local representative of the Uruguayan Jewish umbrella group. His family suspects that the attack was religiously motivated, according to a report by local news outlet Subraydo.
His suspected assailant, a 35-year-old man with a criminal record, reportedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” before stabbing him, the local El Pais newspaper said.

‘Send Us Back’: Former Guantanamo Detainees Are Camping Out at the US Embassy in Uruguay
Former Guantanamo Bay prisoners who were accepted with much fanfare as refugees in Uruguay are now openly rejecting their host and camping out in front of the US Embassy.
They’ve set up the camp in the capital of Montevideo and say that if Uruguay and the US can’t improve their living conditions, they should be returned to “Guantanamo, Syria, or anywhere else,” one of the refugees said.

The Telegraph’s Allison Pearson writes:
Anyone who has stopped to look at a carpet in Turkey knows how it goes. First, the crazy opening price. You shake your head and walk away. Ahmet coaxes you into his shop with smiles and voluble assurances: “Byooutiful lady, pliiss, I give you verrayy gud prayce!”
Then, apple tea. Seated on a low bench, nursing your scalding glass, you are invited to admire the perfection of the rug, hand-woven by blind children in Turkmenistan, which you are so strangely refusing to buy.
At this point, summoning what remains of your willpower, you try to leave the shop. You promise Ahmet that you are going to think about his rug and return.
This is why the Turks refer scathingly to British tourists as “maybe later”. They have grown wise to our evasive, apologetic ways. They know that “maybe later” is English for “never”.
So, before you get to the door, Ahmet begins unrolling several other rugs with a lot of grunting and mopping of brow. At this point, a young boy may be summoned to help, adding to the pathos of the scene. Or, there is the nuclear option: kittens.

In agreeing to these demands, Merkel and the other EUnuchs have pretty much signed their own death warrant.

Over at PJ Media Robert Spencer explains how promising to uphold the Constitution over Sharia is not an argument that Donald Trump wants to get into:
Donald Trump’s boast that if he had been president, the September 11 jihad terror attacks would not have happened because “if I were running things, I doubt those people would have been in the country,” has been gaining him even more notoriety and cheers from foes of Obama’s immigration policies. What Trump would do to prevent jihad terror attacks by domestic jihadis, or Sharia encroachment on American freedoms, however, is far less clear than his stance on immigration, and some of the things he has said about these matters should give even the most full-throated of his enthusiasts considerably less to cheer about.
Several weeks ago, in the midst of Ben Carson’s remarks on sharia, Eric Bolling of Fox News asked Trump: “Would you want the president or a candidate to say, ‘I will promise to uphold the Constitution over the Sharia law’?” Trump replied: “Well, I think it’s an argument I don’t want to get into, it’s not my argument, so it’s an argument that I won’t get into.”
Promising to uphold the Constitution over sharia is not an argument that Trump wants to get into? He may not be aware that if he becomes president, he will solemnly swear to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States,” and this solemn responsibility extends far beyond his competition with Ben Carson.
What’s more, after he denounced our free-speech event in Garland, Texas, last May, which was attacked by Islamic jihadists, it is not at all clear that Donald Trump understands the jihad imperative or the war against free speech, or is at all equipped to counter them.

Drone video shows massive refugee camp on Greece-Macedonia border
Turkey on Monday demanded an additional 3 billion euros from the European Union to help deal with the refugee crisis as EU leaders appealed to Ankara to take back thousands of migrants and prevent others from setting off for Europe.
Turkey — a temporary home to an estimated 2.75 million refugees, many from the conflict in Syria — is an indispensable EU partner in trying to dissuade people fleeing conflict or poverty from taking to makeshift boats and making the short but often-dangerous trip across the Aegean Sea.
“To avoid that refugees arrive in Greece we have to co-operate with Turkey,” French President Francois Hollande said as he arrived for the EU-Turkey summit in Brussels.

In a draft statement prepared for the talks, seen by The Associated Press, the leaders said they will pursue “comprehensive, large scale and fast track returns to Turkey of all irregular migrants not in need of international protection.”
But Turkish leaders upped the ante on Monday, demanding the additional funds by 2018, on top of 3 billion euros the EU had already pledged to help Syrian refugees in the country, European Parliament President Martin Schulz said. Turkey also made requests to ease visa rules by June instead of the end of the year.

Turkey also wants to be able to send Syrian refugees to the 28-nation EU as they take people back who have made the crossing into Greece. The EU is desperate to halt the flow of migrants crossing the Aegean Sea. NATO ships are also set to help patrol the sea between Greece and Turkey, easing the load on Turkey’s military-run coast guard.
