Stephen Coughlin, the Pentagon specialist on Islamic law and Islamist extremism, has been fired from his position on the military’s Joint Staff. The action followed a report in this space last week revealing opposition to his work for the military by pro-Muslim officials within the office of Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England.

He had run afoul of a key aide to Mr. England, Hasham Islam, who confronted Mr. Coughlin during a meeting several weeks ago when Mr. Islam sought to have Mr. Coughlin soften his views on Islamist extremism.

Mr. Coughlin was accused directly by Mr. Islam of being a Christian zealot or extremist “with a pen,” according to defense officials. Mr. Coughlin appears to have become one of the first casualties in the war of ideas with Islamism.

The Organization of the Islamic Conference, the largest voting bloc at the United Nations, has succeeded in pushing through the UN a resolution condemning the “defamation of religions.” That’s “religions,” not “religion” – yet according to Cybercast News Service, “although the resolution refers to defamation of ‘religions,’ Islam is the only religion named in the text, which also takes a swipe at counter-terrorism security measures.” The OIC has been pushing hard for such a measure ever since cartoons of the Islamic prophet Muhammad appeared in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten late in 2005.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) – Libya said on Thursday it was uncomfortable with the idea of sanctions against Iran but vowed to be “constructive” in dealing with Tehran’s nuclear program while chairing the U.N. Security Council this month.

Libya took over the rotating presidency of the council this week after decades as a pariah of the West. It was elected to the 15-nation body along with four other countries in October for 2008-2009 after Washington decided not to oppose it.

Among issues that may be discussed by the council this month are Western calls for a new round of sanctions against Iran, which has ignored repeated Security Council demands that it halt its nuclear enrichment program.

The education ministry has confirmed that universities, colleges and research institutes have been warned to be careful when teaching Iranian nationals about nuclear technology.

A ministry spokesman told news agency ANP that a letter urging caution was sent out in September, but added that this does call for Iranian students to be banned from attending classes on nuclear technology.

The ministry’s statement follows the news earlier this week that Twente University of Technology is refusing admission to all Iranian students saying it cannot guarantee that they will not attend lectures on nuclear technology. Three students have so been excluded so far.

Eindhoven University says it will leave it up to the secret service AIVD to assess the risks on an individual basis. ‘We cannot take the responsibility,’ a spokesman told the Volkskrant.

The education ministry spokesman said that the education, foreign affairs and justice departments are currently looking at the idea of a ban on allowing Iranians to study nuclear technology in the Netherlands. The immigration service is also involved in the talks.

The immigrations service has asked for advice about several dozen students but has not yet imposed any bans, a department spokesman told the Volkskrant on Friday.

The idea of a ban comes from United Nations resolution 1737 which states Iranian nationals should not be given specialist education in nuclear technology.

Downunder: Iranian spies ‘have infiltrated Australian universities’

Iranian students at Australian universities are being closely watched by national security authorities, amid fears some could be working as spies for Tehran.

Some of the students suspected of espionage in Sydney and Melbourne are under electronic surveillance, according to News Ltd.

Concerns about the presence of Iranian spies in Australian universities were reportedly raised by information from local Persian leaders and calls to the National Security Hotline.

State and federal authorities are believed to be keeping an especially close watch on Iranian students who are interested in becoming local residents or Australian citizens.

The Australian reports that the students are being used to spy on local community members who are outspoken against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The Iranian Government is believed to be monitoring those opposed to Mr Ahmadinejad for fear they could be providing financial support to groups fighting against his regime.

In five years the number of Iranian students in Australia has risen five-fold. Most Iranians in Australian universities are studying engineering and surveying.

According to Persian Cultural Foundation of Australia president Homer Abramian, Iran has been both sending spies to Australia to pretend to be students, and paying real students to report back on local affairs.

“The majority of the students are very nice people and from very good families … but we know that some of them are spies and they are not here just for education,” Mr Abramian said.

Most Iranian students in Australia are full-fee-paying students, while some are on Iranian Government-sponsored scholarships.

THE distraught mother of a 13-year-old girl believed to have been strangled by her father collapsed screaming “she is my only hope” after discovering her daughter’s body.

The distressed woman’s cries came moments after she made the gruesome discovery inside her Stevens St, Pennant Hills home, in Sydney’s northwest.

Her 53-year-old husband’s body was also found in the Iranian family’s house.

The mother had made the horrifying find after she returned home from work with her son, 25, at 6pm on Thursday. Both were still too distraught to be interviewed yesterday.

Yesterday detectives returned to the home, seizing a computer and mobile phones. Although the investigation had just begun police said they did not believe there was a religious connection to the deaths.

Post-mortem examinations were conducted on both bodies yesterday with interim reports provided to investigators.

Only the day before the deaths, neighbour Raymond Cheung had shared a joke with the bubbly teenager as she sat in the driver’s seat of her father’s car in the driveway.

He said the girl’s father had driven his only daughter to and from Pennant Hills High School every day.

While the girl always said “good morning” or “hello”, he said her father was “strange and silent”, only ever nodding his head at neighbours.

Police said the Iranian family was well-educated and long-time Australian residents, although they had only recently moved into the area.

Another neighbour, Jyeon Cheung, who lives opposite the family’s home heard the woman’s chilling cries.

“She was screaming ‘she was my only hope’,” Ms Cheung said.

A bunch of flowers, with a card saying “we care” was left near the home yesterday.

Right-wing radicals in Cologne are gaining traction with Germany’s first anti-Islamic party. The German domestic intelligence agency is alarmed — but so are traditional neo-Nazis, who may have to shift their tactics to compete.

The four young men look unremarkable in Cologne’s downtown pedestrian zone. Now and then they press a pamphlet into somebody’s hand with a smile. They seem as harmless as volunteers gathering donations for, say, starving children in Africa; but their project belongs to a political movement that is being viewed with alarm by intelligence officers in the state of North-Rhine Westphalia.

These young men handing out flyers work for an organization called “Pro Cologne,” which has been watched with suspicion by the domestic intelligence agency — the Verfassungsschutz or Office for the Protection of the Constitution — for several months. They are gathering support in the otherwise liberal-minded and open city of Cologne to protest an enormous mosque slated for construction in the district of Ehrenfeld. Around 300 members of Pro Cologne have collected more than 20,000 signatures, and a few unsavory characters on the German far right hope to use their success as a way to win seats in state parliaments.

With a new political party called “Pro NRW” (Pro North-Rhine Westphalia), stemming from the Pro Cologne movement, two leaders named Markus Beisicht and Manfred Rouhs want to win enough votes to enter the state parliament in 2010. About a dozen Pro Cologne spinoffs are already preparing local campaigns across the state — in Gelsenkirchen, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen and Bottrop, among other places. Where no new mosques are being planned, Beisicht says, the party will just fight smaller existing mosques.

The Rhinelanders also have their eyes on Berlin: Party functionaries sent mailouts last October to addresses in the capital to protest a planned mosque in the Berlin district of Charlottenburg. They’ve even established a citizens’ movement with an even more awkward name: “Pro Deutschland.”

‘A Second Mecca’

Officials at the Office for the Protection of the Constitution think it’s possible that Beisicht and his friends will gain resonance with voters and even overtake the neo-Nazi National Democratic Party (NPD) in western states. The NPD — which tends to line up with Israel-hating Muslim groups — has tried to block the new competition by mounting similar anti-mosque efforts. They’ve organized a group in Münster called “Citizens’ Movement Pro Münster” to hinder the Cologne party’s march to state power.

This playing on fears of a supposed Muslim invasion seems to work on the busy public street in Cologne. Some people who took pamphlets also signed a petition against the planned new mosque. One person, who said he was a bureaucrat, said he didn’t “want a second Mecca in Cologne.” A saleswoman was afraid her neighborhood near the new mosque would get “loud.”
A Düsseldorf neo-Nazi expert named Alexander Häusler says anyone who signs these petitions will be placed on anti-immigrant mailing lists — a charge Pro NRW denies.

But critics like Häusler also blame city officials for the dubious personalities now leading the anti-mosque movement. Almost all factions of Cologne’s government greeted the big new mosque project with open arms, without involving voters to any adequate degree. A city spokeswoman says at least a debate has been led over “the height of the minarets.” But established political parties, says Häusler, “ignored the fears and concerns of local citizens for too long.”

The methods of the anti-mosque movement have been studied by far-right groups in other countries, like Austria’s FPÖ (“Austrian Freedom Party”) and Belgium’s Vlaams Belang (“Flemish Interest”) party. In November, Markus Beisicht gave a special presentation on the Cologne movement to FPÖ members in Graz. “We will lead our fight across Europe,” he told them, “whether it’s in Graz, Cologne or Vienna.” He’s invited friends from the FPÖ, Vlaams Belang and France’s National Front to a big “Anti-Islam Congress” in Cologne next September.

Beisicht is a lawyer who once belonged to Germany’s far-right Republikaner (REP). Like a number of executive Pro NRW members, he’s cultivated links to the radical right for years. With members of the “German League for Home and Folk,” in the early ’90s, he laid a 1,000-mark bounty on the life of an immigrant woman who had applied for asylum in Germany and then disappeared underground. Rouhs, his right-hand man, was a member of the NPD. And André Picker, a lawyer on the party’s executive board, once represented a neo-Nazi band called the The White Wolves, who had trouble with the German government over lines like “Clear out the Jews and wake up Germany” (“Juda verrecke und Deutschland erwache”). Nazi propaganda is not protected speech in Germany.

Meanwhile, the Pro NRW party has also discovered a solvent financial supporter. A 90-year-old contractor named Günther Kissel has recently joined up; he’s known for financing far-right causes. He once invited the convicted Holocaust denier and British historian David Irving to speak on his business property.

But Kissel normally makes a clean distinction between politics and private enterprise. The firm he founded, which he still heads as principal stockholder, has taken on a project that doesn’t quite fit with the aims of his new-found party. His contracting firm is in charge of building a €7 million mosque in a racially mixed neighborhood of Duisburg called Marxloh, in North-Rhine Westphalia.

Wrongly associated? As of today, terrorists have carried out 10,277 separate attacks since September 11, 2001. They all belong to the same religion, and it ain’t Methodism.

The resolution (which of course makes no mention of the vicious persecution of Christians) was pushed through by the 57-nation Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), which has been agitating for it for years. Naturally every Muslim country was among the 108 supporters, but it’s interesting to note how other countries lined up.

Girl, 13, strangled by her dad

A TEENAGER was last night strangled by her father before he took his own life in Sydney – and the horrifying discovery was made by the girl’s mother.

Neighbours were alerted to the tragedy by the “howling screams” of the 13-year-old girl’s mother, who made the gruesome discovery shortly after 6pm.

Police and ambulance crews rushed to the Stevens St, Pennant Hills townhouse in Sydney’s northwest, arriving to find the girl unconscious and her father dead.

Distraught neighbours last night said the evening calm was shattered by the mother’s distraught screams.

“The scream was heard down the street. It was horrible,” one neighbour said.

It is understood the family were originally from Iran and had signed a two-year lease on the property three months ago.

“My friend heard a howling kind of scream. She said it sounded like a really sorrowful cry,” another neighbour said last night.

Superintendent Marcon said he did not believe the attack was motivated by race or religion, contrary to other reports.

Update:  Police displays willful stupidity re the motive

Supt Marcon said police would speak to the distraught family members later today after formal identification of the bodies this morning.

The mother and her son, believed to be in his 20s, are currently being cared for by extended family members in the area, Supt Marcon said.

“Obviously they are very upset,” he said.

“It’s a tragedy, a young girl, 13, just at the beginning of her life. It’s just a straight out tragedy, a family tragedy.”

You “cannot accept that!” In other words, you simply refuse to “accept” the reality of what is contained in Qur’an, Hadith, and Sira. You refuse to “accept” the idea that Muslims are taught that they have a central duty to participate in the “struggle” or Jihad to spread Islam, to tear down all barriers to that spread, and then to the dominance, of Islam. You “cannot accept” the idea that Muslims might be inculcated with the notion that the main, the only real division that counts in the world is that between Believer and Infidel. You simply won’t “accept” the Muslim view of Dar al-Islam as necessarily expanding at the expense of Dar al-Harb.

Muthuswamy cites research on the Koran, conducted by the Center for Political Islam, which illustrates the Islamic focus on conformist behavior and beliefs. According to the Center’s analysis of the Koran, the Sira, and the Hadith, only 17% of the Islamic trilogy deals with the words of Allah. The remaining 83% refers to the words and deeds of Mohammed. Of all of the references to “hell” in the trilogy, 6% are for moral failings, while 94% are for the transgression of disagreeing with Mohammed. Statistical analysis of the trilogy revealed that 97% of references to “jihad” relate to war and a mere 3% to the concept of “inner struggle.”

About 67% of the Koran of Mecca deals with punishing unbelievers for merely disagreeing with Mohammed. Over 50% of the Koran of Medina deals with hypocrites and jihad against unbelievers. Nearly 75% of the Sira deals with jihad. About 20% of the Hadith by Bukhari is about jihad. The majority of the doctrine is political and it is all violent.

In 4% of the cases, women were superior, in 91% of the cases they were inferior and in 5% they were equal. But there is a big catch. The only way that women are equal is after death on Judgment day, when men and women will be judged on how well they followed the Koran and the Sunna. And guess what? The only way to follow the Koran and the Sunna is to obey men. Equality means obeying men

Woman are superior by being a mother, who must obey her husband. So the perfect woman on Judgment day will be a mother, who obeyed all the men in her life. So really, the women are subordinate to men in 100% of all of the Koran, Hadith and the Sira.

Yemen Times columnist: There must be violence against women

The lies and denial by Muhammedan taqiyya spin-doctors, agit props and professional obfuscators are nauseating. All of it designed to deflect away from the unpalatable, barbaric reality of the 7th century cult of Islam. Robert Spencer cuts through the bullshit and shines a light into the caves of the troglodytes:

Over the next few days, as more details emerge about the murders of Amina and Sarah Said, we will see Islamic spokesmen on TV (Ibrahim Hooper is probably sitting for make-up as you read this) explaining that honor killing is a cultural practice that has nothing to do with Islam, and of course above all the one thing we must avoid doing in the aftermath of these murders is entertain for even a moment the possibility that Islamic attitudes and atmospherics had anything to do with the deaths of these girls. And Alan Colmes will nod sagely and agree that Islamophobia is a terrible problem, and Sean Hannity will burble about the “hijacking of a great religion,” and Glenn Beck will assure us that the Qur’an teaches nonviolence, and a splendid time is guaranteed for all. No one will dream of holding the American Muslim community accountable for aiding and abetting the creation of a culture of violence against women. Oh no. That would be “Islamophobic.”

And so this Yemen Times piece comes particularly ill-timed for Hooper and other Islamic spokesmen in the West, who spill large amounts of ink assuring us that oh no, no Muslim takes Qur’an 4:34, the Muslim holy book’s notorious verse commanding the beating of disobedient women, at face value. Oh no. No Muslim actually beats his wife, or if he does, he does it only with a toothbrush, and anyway, well, wife-beating is cross-cultural, isn’t it? It isn’t as if no American wife has ever been beaten.

And certainly that’s true: wife-beating is cross-cultural, but that doesn’t prove a thing, and bringing it up only ensures that the Islamic community in America will, in the wake of the murders of Amina and Sarah Said, once again be absolved of all responsibility, and exempted from all accountability — because after all, everyone does it, don’t they?

Anyway, in the Yemen Times today, Maged Thabet Al-Kholidy doesn’t say anything about toothbrushes, or everyone doing it, or anything at all except that women should be beaten when disobedient, because the Qur’an says so.

Qur’an 4:34 tells men to beat their disobedient wives after first warning them and then sending them to sleep in separate beds. It is worth noting how several translators render the key part of this verse, وَاضْرِبُوهُنَّ, waidriboohunna.

Al-Hilali/Khan: “(and last) beat them (lightly, if it is useful)”
Shakir: “and beat them”
Sher Ali: “and chastise them”

Abdul Said has now made the Most Wanted List. However, I am told that the police have described the murder as senseless, baffling, puzzling, etc.—as opposed to as an obvious, old-fashioned honor killing. Perhaps I’m wrong, but has anyone thought to look for him in a mosque?

They have dishonored our shores for quite some time and more keep coming our way.

I am talking about honor killings in North America. In The Death of Feminism, I write about honor murders in Missouri, Ohio, and in parts of New Jersey, New York, and Canada which took place during the last quarter-century.

Just yesterday, an Egyptian Arab Muslim father in Dallas, Texas allegedly shot his two beautiful teenage daughters to death because he disapproved of their American-style ways. Their names were Amina and Sarah Said and their father’s name was Abdul Said. The girls looked sassy and full of life; they looked like Dallas teenagers. They were 17 and 18 years old and their friends considered them “geniuses.” Abdul was a taxi driver. (In parts of Europe, taxi drivers are known to aid and abet honor murders).

Perhaps how Amina and Sarah dressed, and how they thought, shamed their father Abdul. He was no longer in control of his women—a mark of shame which provoked his need to kill them. Perhaps their flowering sexuality enraged him because it made him desire them—and from this he concluded that other men might desire them too and if he could not have them, no man could.
