Obama, the “post-racial candidate” thinks we need to talk yet more about race. How much more? I had had my fill by around 1974. How long must we all marinate in the angry resentment of black people?

As an authentic post-racial American, I will not patronize blacks by pretending Obama’s pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, is anything other than a raving racist loon. If a white pastor had said what Rev. Wright said — not about black people, but literally, the exact same things — I think we’d notice that he’s crazier than Ward Churchill and David Duke’s love child. (Indeed, both Churchill and the Rev. Wright referred to the attacks of 9/11 as the chickens coming “home to roost.”)

Imagine a white pastor saying: “Racism is the American way. Racism is how this country was founded, and how this country is still run. … We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority. And believe it more than we believe in God.”

Imagine a white pastor calling Condoleezza Rice, “Condoskeezza Rice.”

Imagine a white pastor saying: “No, no, no, God damn America — that’s in the Bible for killing innocent people! God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human! God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme!”

We treat blacks like children, constantly talking about their temper tantrums right in front of them with airy phrases about black anger. I will not pat blacks on the head and say, “Isn’t that cute?” As a post-racial American, I do not believe “the legacy of slavery” gives black people the right to be permanently ill-mannered.

The report, for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, is a strike for multiculturalism, the doctrine which encourages the development of minorities. Multiculturalism fell out of favour in 2005, after the Government’s equality chief Trevor Phillips warned that the country was “sleepwalking to segregation”.

The pollster, Khalil Shikaki, said he was shocked because the survey showed greater support for violence than any other he had conducted over the past 15 years in the Palestinian areas. Never before, he said, had a majority favored an end to negotiations or the shooting of rockets at Israel.

Saudi Shura council rejects proposal to ban religious offence

(dpa) – The Saudi Shura council rejected an international recommendation to criminalize offences against all religions, stressing that the suggestion would imply the government’s recognition of what it considered as pagan religions, media reports said Tuesday.

Some 77 of the 150 members of the Shura or consultative council, which has limited legislative rights, opposed the recommendation, while only 33 supported it.

The proposal states that the “Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with the Arab Islamic group of the United Nations will adopt an international recommendation that prohibits offence of all religions and religious figures by all means.”

Talal Bakry, a Shura council member, opposed the move, saying that the recommendation means a full recognition of “the pagan religions” and thus will allow the establishment of non-monotheistic worship places in Muslim countries.

“This recommendation is a trap for the Muslim community, which can result in negative consequences on Muslims above all the others,” Khalil al-Khalil, an opponent member, was quoted as saying in al-Watan Saudi newspaper.

He added that the suggestion includes vague wordings like “religions and religious figures” that may vary in definition from one country to another.

Mohammed al-Qowayhas, a supporter of the recommendation, however stressed that the idea of the Shura was to respect the opinions of others.

Gerard Henderson isn’t surprised by the media’s lack of interest in a judge’s finding that Mamdouh Habib couldn’t be trusted to tell the truth about being a victim of the US’s war on terror:

The court’s decision was disastrous for Habib. Especially since he has become something of a media celebrity. He has been seen at demonstrations against Australian foreign policy and is something of a hero to the Green Left Weekly set. He has also had sympathetic media coverage: Tara Brown’s soft 60 Minutes interview on February 13, 2005, is a case in point. And his allegations have been given plausibility at an international level – including by Raymond Bonner in The New York Times. Put simply, many journalists wanted to hear that Habib was mistreated, even tortured, when held in captivity in Pakistan and/or the US.

Yet the media’s coverage of Habib’s case has been muted. The decision was barely mentioned on ABC TV and radio – despite the fact ABC commentators have been to the fore in advancing Habib’s case. One example illustrates the point. On February 16, 2005, The Age’s Michelle Grattan criticised the Howard government for failing to take Habib’s claims that he was tortured seriously enough – an accusation denied at the time by the attorney-general, Philip Ruddock. It so happens that The Age was the only key Australian newspaper not to report McClellan’s judgment. Nor did Grattan refer to it in her daily slot on ABC Radio National Breakfast.

The announcement comes from the Korea Muslim Federation. The elementary school, where prayer will not be obligatory, is financed in part by Saudi Arabia. Within three years, a secondary school and cultural centre are planned to open.

Kim Hwan-yoo, secretary general of the organisation, explains that the institute will be named after Saudi sultan Bin Abdul Aziz: “We will present the official request to the government as soon as possible, but there shouldn’t be any problems. Many Koreans have distorted information about Islam, since many years ago some Muslims did not behave well, forcibly converting some of the natives”.

Therefore, Kim adds, “the main goal is that of correcting a distorted view of our religion. School is not only for children: for us, it will be a mission”. According to the plan that will be presented to the education minister, the courses will include the study of Arabic and English. In any case, “Students will not be obliged to worship, which will take place twice every day”.

The project has “the full support of the Saudi government”. Abdullah al-Aifan, Riyadh’s ambassador in Seoul, has given 500 thousand dollars to the foundation as “a gift on the part of his government”, and has spoken of “active support for all of the upcoming initiatives as well”.

There are about 150,000 Koreans of the Islamic faith: according to the few local mosques, the fault for this low number lies “with society as well, which has not guaranteed the adequate social infrastructure for the development of our religion”.

 KOSOVSKA MITROVICA (AFP) — Three UN police officers and two NATO soldiers were wounded in an explosion Monday as they stormed a courthouse occupied by Serb protesters in this flashpoint Kosovo town, Kosovo police said.
“A blast occurred in northern Kosovo around 8:10 am (0710 GMT) injuring three UN policemen and two KFOR soldiers,” Kosovo’s local police force said in a statement, without elaborating.
Police spokesman Beshim Hoti said the blast erupted after UN police moved into the court building to arrest more than 50 Serbs who had been occupying the premises since Friday in protest at Kosovo’s declaration of independence.
“I suppose it was a hand granade activated in the courthouse yard,” he told AFP from the capital Pristina.
Kosovo’s UN police force and troops from NATO’s KFOR peacekeeping force surrounded the building in armoured vehicles. Kosovo police spokesman Veton Elshani told AFP that they had arrested 53 people.
“The situation is delicate but under control,” Elshani said.
A group of some 300 Serbs opposed to Kosovo’s independence stormed the UN-run courthouse on Friday. Negotiations with United Nations officials failed over the weekend, and the Serbs refused to leave the premises.
The demonstrators — many of whom worked in Kosovo’s judiciary before the territory came under the administration of the United Nations in 1999 — said they wanted to set up their own court.

KANDAHAR: Militants set ablaze a secondary school in Afghanistan’s southern city of Kandahar on Friday, authorities said, in at least the third attack on educational institutes this year.

Gunmen set fire to classrooms, books and offices at the Mian Abdul Hakim school for boys and girls, said Mohammad Anwar, head of the Kandahar province Education Department. “They burnt to ash everything, the building, books and chairs,” he told AFP. More than 1,200 students study at the school, including up to 200 girls, said Anwar.

He blamed the attack on “enemies of Afghanistan,” a term often used to refer to Taliban insurgents.

In a similar incident on January 31, militants burned down a primary school in the province of Logar, near Kabul. On January 1, a newly built school for refugee children was torched in the eastern Nangarhar province.

The tactic appears to be intended to disrupt progress in education, apparently one of the most successful sectors of the post-Taliban government’s largely Western-funded reconstruction. The Education Ministry said in January that the Taliban had burned down 183 schools and killed 61 teachers and students in the past 18 months.

Attacks by the insurgents had also closed down nearly 400 schools and deprived around 300,000 children from access to education, it added.

Hamas is murdering with US-weapons

JERUSALEM – The Hamas terrorist group used U.S. weapons against the Israel Defense Forces this weekend, a Hamas official told WND.

The weapons were seized when Hamas last June took complete control of the Gaza Strip, overtaking all U.S.-backed security compounds in the territory associated with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party.

“We fired at incoming Israeli helicopters using the seized weapons. We will continue to balance the equilibrium of terror with the Zionists,” said Hamas spokesman Abu Oubeida.

On Friday, Hamas gunmen used mounted heavy machine guns to fire at Israeli helicopters that were attacking a cell of terrorists attempting to launch Qassam rockets into Israel. Hamas claimed they struck one helicopter.

*Predator Strike in Pakistan, 20 terrorists roasted

MIRAN SHAH, Pakistan (AP) — At least 20 people were killed in a missile strike near the Afghan border on Sunday, state-run Pakistan Television said.

The strike destroyed the house of a suspected militant leader, according to a local tribesman.

Seven missiles were fired in the strike in the tribal area of South Waziristan, the television report said.

The report did not indicate where the missiles came from, but U.S.-led coalition forces based in neighboring Afghanistan have launched attacks inside the Pakistani border in the past.

Pakistan has been battling Islamic militants linked to al-Qaida and the Taliban in its regions bordering Afghanistan. The U.S. considers the country’s effort vital to the war on terrorism.

The missiles were fired by an unmanned drone, local tribesman, Rahim Khan, told The Associated Press.

At least two hit and destroyed the home of a local militant leader and Taliban sympathizer who goes by the single name Noorullah, Khan said.
