'I was robbed of innocence and childhood' says teenage victim of sex slave ring

* But more than anything she fears her ordeal could have made her become ‘racist’ – what could be worse than that?

A teenage victim of two Asian men who ran a sex slavery in which they groomed their white victims with drugs, drinks and gifts before assaulting them, said her attackers had robbed her of her ‘innocence and childhood’.

The 17-year-old girl was one several victims of Mirza Baig, 35, and Mohammed Ditta, 39, who lured vulnerable teenage girls to a flat and forced them to perform sex acts.

The girls were groomed with gifts including drugs, mobile phone credit and cigarettes before they were trapped in Ditta’s flat, stripped and sexually abused.

Yesterday, after the defendants – who are both married with children – were given indeterminate sentences for the protection of the public, one of their victims described how her ordeal had led her to become ‘distant’ with people.

The girl, who cannot be named, said: “It has definitely made me more aware and more distant with people – especially with men and Asian men in particular. Whenever I see an Asian male I get scared – its an immediate reaction.

“It’s not because I am racist or anything, but because it reminds me of those men. It annoys me that I have been made to think like that.

    With all eyes fixed upon the political excitements in the U.S, few have paid much attention to a trip made by the Prime Minister several thousand miles in the opposite  direction.

    A week ago Gordon Brown, accompanied by his new best friend the Business Secretary Lord Mandelson, went cap in hand to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states to ask them to help bail out the stricken economies of the West by pumping billions into the International Monetary Fund.

    It is more than a little strange that the British Prime Minister should have apparently taken it upon himself to speak on behalf of the IMF. But the real concern is that asking for help from Saudi Arabia is not like tapping your friendly neighbourhood bank manager for a bigger overdraft.

    The former chairman of John Howard’s Muslim community reference group, Ameer Ali, said members of the Australian Government were hypocrites for not protesting against the execution.

    “What have we achieved by executing these people?” Dr Ali said.

    “We have just made it easierfor them to execute the Bali Nine. Australia should have taken the opportunity to try to put an end to this barbaric penalty known as capital punishment.”

    What happened to Iraq's Jews?
